I love this movie, it is a classic love story with many songs. It starts out with the story of Christine and the Phantom as children. Then Christine becomes a singer in the Opera while the Phantom is tutoring her. She meets her only love from childhood and the Phantom get jealous of him courting her. Raoul is her childhood love the Phantom kidnapps her and takes her to his underground lair to sing for him. He realizes that she needs to be with other people to better her career so he lets her go, but she must stop Raoul from courting her. Raoul asks her to marry him and they celebrate at a masked ball. The Phantom shows up and is displeased that he helped her and all she did was see this other man under his nose. He kiddnapps her again and Raoul goes to save her and he is bound by the Phantom. Christine asks for mercy and the Phantoms says he was shown none as a child because of his diformities of his face. She shows him that she is no longer afraid of his face and kisses...
...

PhantomJT says "The newest Phantom of the Opera scared me silly!" about Phantom of the Opera

The Phantom of the Opera movie produced by Andrew Lloyd Webber was a flopped attempt at creating a live stage musical version on film. His first and major flaw was casting Butler as Phantom. Butler could NOT sing. His has no singing ability what so ever. He would never have been casted for the musical stage version - so why ruin the movie version with this sap? Webber cast Emmy Rossum as Christine - a nice fit, although a little young. Her facial expression never changes throughout the movie. A deer in the headlights if you will. Patrick WIlson - Raoul - was the only TRUE Broadway performer in this film and it shows. A perfect match, yet tragic that he had to 'act' with these other members of the unfortunate cast.

Oddly enough, Mme Giry (Miranda Richardson) was the ONLY person in the movie that had a silly accent. Keep in mind, the move takes place in PARIS FRANCE, she was the only one that had an outrageous accent! Everyone else spoke like they were from North America.

Oh my gosh!! I have been to the Broadway musical Phantom of the Opera , and read the book. The books are always a little different from the movie, but that is normal in any "book to movie. As far as being like the Broadway musical, they are very much alike. The music was the same and was awesome. I found myself singing along. Wonderful movie with wonderful music. And of course made me cry like a baby....

This movie is the best movie that I have ever seen. My daughter turned me on to it by watching it all the time. I couldn't get into it at first, but, hearing it everyday, I had to turn around from playing on my computer to actually watch it. It has dreams, adventure, romance, love, action, horror, and it has unrequited love and love like no other. This move is the BOMB for me. I know that it is Opera, but, if you sit and watch it and listen to the words and watch the special effects, you will like it like I did.
...

lizmie27 says "Doesn't live up to the stage version" about Phantom of the Opera

I found many things about this movie disappointed me. The "young and sexy" casting was a bad decision. Emmy Rossum does not have the singing ability to convincingly play Christine (who is supposed to be an opera singer!) and her acting was also mediocre. Gerard Butler is not a great singer either and it is hard to look past the fact that he is much too young to be playing the Phantom. His "deformity" was no worse than a bad sunburn. Patrick Wilson was a fine Raoul; I did not love his singing personally but he was by far the best of the three. I thought the rest of the cast did a fine job.
The movie is beautiful to look at, but if you want to hear what The Phantom of the Opera should really sound like, I suggest the original London cast recording with Michael Crawford, Sarah Brightman, and Steve Barton. They sing much better than these three leads.
...

This musical starts out slow, but once into it you can't stop watching. It even gets to be a tear jerker towards the end when the phantom loses his mask.

The music portions were fantastic and the singers were great!!

This movies is a must see for everyone.
...
