Lyrica is a great pain medication for fibromyalgia. I have used Lyrica since December of 2007 and I have found that it helps me out with a lot of my nerve pain associated with diabetes's. I also take Lyrica for seizures and since being on Lyrica my seizures have subsided completely. I did notice a little water fluid build up in my feet and hands when I first started taking Lyrica, but your doctor can put you on a fluid pill to help with this or your doctor my decrease your dosage. For those people that really don't understand what Fibromyalgia is, I can explain it medically which I will do later but let me put it in layman's terms. Fibromyalgia is just a word associated with pain. Doctors will call your condition Fibromyalgia if you have pain and they don't know whats causing it and why you are having pain. Basically if a doctor says you have Fibromyalgia then they probably don't know why you are in pain and what is causing your pain. Now onto the medical definition of Fibromyalgia. Fibromyalgia...
...

AraozClaudia says "Lyrica " about Pfizer Lyrica

I started taking Lyrica for Neuralgia pain. It took the pain away which was great but i felt loopy all day it was horrible.

Having a dry mouth I could live with. But being spaced out all day was not fun, I am a mother of 2 young kids and I was afraid to drive the car with them. I could not even roll out of bed sometimes or even lift my arm. This drug is definitely not for me...

It was very frustrating because i was so drugged up I could not function. After being on this drug for about two months I started getting depressed and feeling like I wanted to hurt myself, I was speaking to my husband and this is not in my nature to think this way so we read on the side-effects of this drug and there it was in black and white this drug may cause you to feel suicidal in some patients. So I spoke to my doctor and he took me off the drug immediately.

I hope this helps some you.
...

I started taking Lyrica for my epileptic seizures and was skeptical. I can honestly say it has caused me to have less seizures. Although it has caused me to gain weight considerably. Not too many other side effects though. I can definetly say I've taken worse medications for my epilepsy.
...

My rheumatologist prescribed me Lyria for fibromyalgia pain. She had high hopes for my on it, but I quickly discovered that, while it has been a miracle drug for some, it was absolutely awful for me!

I got no symptom relief, unfortunately, but I did get subjected to some absolutely hellish side effects.

Perhaps the worse was the dizziness. Oh, the dizziness. Lyrica made it feel as through the room was spinning around me! Even when I lay down and closed my eyes, it continued.

I also got to enjoy weight gain, hair loss and some other fun side effects.

After hearing my issues, my rheumatologist quickly took me off the drug. I was lucky that the siide effects did not linger after I discontinued the drug. Having tried all three of the FDA approved medications for fibromyalgia, I can say that Lyrica was the worst. I hope that other people have better luck with it than I do--I finally found success with Savella.
...

gull9832 says "Virtually totally controlled neuropathy after 20 years!" about Pfizer Lyrica

My experience with neuropathy began about twenty years, innocently enough, with a numbness in a big toe. Slowly the numbness expanded, turning into episodic pain, which increased over the years to the point where I couldn't get a decent night's sleep. The pain "gremlins", as I called them, had lots of nasty tricks, stabbing, biting, cramps, freezingsensations that felt like my feel were immersed in ice water, burning like severe sunburn over the tops. In desperation, I began drinking beer in the evening, which put the "gremlins" temporarily to sleep. Over time it took more and more beer to do the trick. Then I read that alcohol could aggravate neuropathy, so I stopped, and began substituting aspirin- three at 8PM, three at 11PM just before I went to sleep, and often another three if the pains woke me during the night. Then I would get up and work at the computer until the aspirin kicked in about 45 minutes later. My podiatrist gave me several medicines to try, but none worked....
...

I was taking much too much of a narcotic to try and get control of my pain. I suffer from both restless leg syndrome and neuropathic pain in my legs. I was already taking one medication for those problems when my neurologist suggested we try Lyrica in addition to that. That was the best decision we made. I feel alive again. I am no longer sedated with the narcotic. Lyrica allows me to be fully functional yet controls my pain for hours with just one dose. I now take Lyrica twice a day and have no breakthru pain. I had actually begin to think I would lose my mind if I didn't get help. Lyrica has been my answer to many prayers. I can't say enough about it. No sedation, no side effects and no drowsiness, just relief - that's what Lyrica is all about.
...

I am a fibromyalgia sufferer along with many other medical problems: clinical depression, seasonal depression, social anxieties. This is just to name a few. I'm finding my list getting longer.

Lyrica has made a big difference and helps with my fibromyalgia. When I don't hurt as bad, my depression seems to lift a little too. Wow, it's like killing two birds with one stone.

Lyrica doesn't take all of my pain away all the time. I don't like the side effect of gaining weight. That is not helpful. Benefits out weigh the cons.

The biggest difference was having no pain in my right forefinger. I can move it and type without the pain. When I try to cut back on the dosage prescribe, because of cost (even with co-pay), I noticed a huge difference.
...

For the 8yrs before I started taking this medication I had to use a cane everyday. Every single day. I am now only 41yrs old. I have had 6 spine surgeries & in the last year I was finally diagnosed with Fibromyalgia. This is a crippling disease! Lyrica has enabled me to have more days with less pain. Yes, there are still really bad days. But they are not as frequent. The one side effect that we did not expect was the significant jump in my blood sugar. I was not even "Pre-Diabetic" before taking this medication. As we increased the dosage (called titrating) my blood sugar crept up as well. When we realized what ws happening, my Dr. wanted me to stop taking Lyrica altogether! I told him that he could have it back after I was dead. I meant it too. I am now able to attend our sons baseball games & swim meets without having to rely on the use of a cane. Sure there are plus & minuses with any medication. I just think that for me, the pluses outweighed the minuses.
...

Before I started lyrica, I was in pain from fibromyalgia every day. It was difficult to move, sit, lay down, stand -- everything hurt. The icky sunburn sensation in my skin made it difficult to wear clothes, and my most painful places -- my arms and thighs -- were always hurting. Lyrica helps ease that fibromyalgia pain so the day is easier to get through. And when your pain is less, it helps ease other problems like depression, anxiety, frustration. If you've been diagnosed with fibromyalgia and haven't started taking Lyrica, what are you waiting for??
...

I have suffered from fibromyalgia for a number of years. As some will know this is a pain syndrome that is immobilizing. Basically, treatment is of a trial and an error nature. Having been on more than 6 different meds for approximately 4 months each, it is a great relief to have some success at last. I have been using Lyrica for approximately 4 months now and have leveled off to a point to where pain is at least managed for longer periods of time between doses. This has only come after trying different combinations of dose amounts (mgs) and frequencies of dosage. At present time; after a recent adjustment in both, I am experienciecing at least 6 pain free hours before the next dose is due 2 hours later. This has changed my level of function drastically. I am able to work a part time job, eventhough it takes a lot to get me going and I'm usually in a lot of pain at the end of my shift. I've been fortunate not to have to work more than 2 concurrent days so I have time to recover.
...

It states on Web MD that Lyrica is used to "treat pain caused by nerve damage due to diabetes and shingles (herpes zoster) infection. It is also used to treat pain in people with fibromyalgia."
What it does not tell you is that is is also useful for nerve pain from an amputation. I had a finger amputated and was taking heavy narcotic drugs for the pain but when I was finally able to afford Lyrica I was able to cut back substantially on the narcotics.
I did not know however that there is now a generic for it. It cost me $50 per month for my prescription even with insurance but it is well worth it. Perhaps with a generic it will be less now.
...
