rmcdono1 says "Rabbits are low-matience, fun pets!" about Pet Rabbit

I had a rabbit when I was younger and have always wanted another one. We recently purchased/rescued one from a pet store. (The previous owners could not care for him any longer and gave him to the pet store.) He was three years old and we knew nothing of his past. He is still timid around my boyfriend and is just now becoming friendly with me. He was suppose to be litter boxed trained but we had problems with him urinating and dropping presents in the house. We had to buy a second litter box and place it in a corner. This has dramatically reduced his accidents in the house. I "bunny proofed" the house by covering all electrical wires in plastic tubes. He hides behind furniture and eats at the carpet regardless of the millions of different toys he has.

He is very entertaining. I love watching him hop around the house in circles. I bathe him every few weeks and brush him every few days to prevent hair on the furniture. Rabbits are extremely low matience and groom themselves like a cat....
...

munchybunchy says "Pet rabbits can be the most loving and sweet pet you could have." about Pet Rabbit

I have been a pet rabbit owner for the past 15 years. Let me just say there are many reasons that bunnies make very good pets. At this time, I will share some of them with you.

First of all, bunnies can be very loving and receptive. They are naturally curious, and many are very loving and enjoy being part of the family. Unfortunately, many bunny owners are not aware of this fact, because they leave their rabbit in a wire cage all day. This is very sad and unfortunate. One cannot see a true rabbits personality, unless they are a "house-rabbit". For some, this may be a very uncommon term, but it basically means that a bunny is allowed to roam around your home a minimum of 4 hours a day. (Ideally, it would be more then that. My rabbit is out at least 8 hours a day, supervised of course!) Now, this requires a very caring and responsible pet owner. If you are willing to do this, it may mean changing the way you live a bit. You will need to cover wires, since bunnies like to chew. You will...
...

Once when the Baby Bunny was even more little, she was hopping along the Bunny trail. And all of a sudden, to her left, and a little away from the trail, the Bunny saw a tiny little fluff ball. "Ooh, something to play with, and throw up in the air ...", the Bunny thought, and moved closer to it excitedly. As the Bunny got closer, the Bunny saw that the little fluff ball moved ever so slightly, and the Bunny got curious and even more excited ... "A moving fluff ball? That's really coo. May be I could tell the Bunny Father about it," the Bunny thought all to herself, "Or may be I could take it to the Bunny Father and show it to him!" The Bunny got really excited with the idea, and hopped over to the tiny little fluff ball, and stretched her Bunny paws to pick it up.i think having a bunny is a good way to teach responsibility for anyone bunnys are cute and a little easer then a cat or dog to take care of my dad told me a story once

rockynixon1 says "pet rabbits are great!" about Pet Rabbit

Having pet rabbits is wonderful! They are as smart as dogs and much better than cats. We have 7 and they are a huge part of our family. They are a little high matainance and you have to be dedicated to really taking care of them but when you do the research and do it right, it is well worth it.

I have to let you know that most rabbits make much better pets when they are spayed and/or nutered. This is quite expensive, about the same as a dog but it is necessary for the health of the rabbit and for your sanity. If not fixed, the rabbit will want to breed and then get frustrated and take up bad habits like biting. Within a week or two after being fixed the bunnies attitude changes and they become loving members of the family.

They also can be litter box trained and need to be allowed to run loose often. Make sure all electrical cords are put up as they will promptly snip them if you don't.

When it comes down to it, rabbits make a great addition to the family.
...

FireCatSekhmet says "Must be indoors. Must be neutered/spayed. BIG $$$$" about Pet Rabbit

We are the proud owners of four house rabbits. We have had to rabbit proof the whole house. They eat and chew on everything, cords and wires are favorites. They will chew furniture and walls. You must be a dedicated person who is going to understand this. Rabbits can make good pets for the correct owners.

The cost of spaying or neutering a rabbit can be $100.00 to $500.00. This must be done because bunny will spray urine to mark his or her territory at six months of age and it continues and gets worse and worse. Female rabbits will develop uterine cancer by around three years of age so they must be spayed.

They are ground loving creatures and hate to be held, definately not a good pet for a child. Rabbits are a lot of work. They require many different fresh vegetables and fruits. They require monthly nail clipping which is quite a struggle. One of my rabbits needs to have his teeth filed which I hear can be monthly. I expect this to be a few hundred dollars a month too.
...

reds92240 says "Rabbits are like cats: they make good best friends!" about Pet Rabbit

Rabbits, bunnies, whatever you call them, they make for wonderful (actually quite amazing) pets, for young, old, and everyone in between. They are fuzzy, soft, and cute, and desire your attention like any loving dog would; they are emotive, curious, and love to play games (also kind of like a dog). Since they are so emotive and attached to their owners, good bunny caretakers will make sure they play or give attention to the bunny for at least an hour a day. Bunnies can be neutered and spayed the same as cats and dogs, and can also be taught not to chew on wires and other household appliances or furniture, as well as where it is ok to go to the bathroom! Because they are so smart and can be trained in these ways, bunnies can be left to hop around the house freely during the day, and put in their cages at night. Because of their physiology and instinctual drives, bunnies must be carefully shown that humans can be trusted, so check bunny forums for guides! The cage should be spot......

I've owned rabbits for 11-12 years now. I've raised mine from bunnies to adults. The oldest one we had was Gracie. I still miss her. She lived to be almost 5 yrs old. We now have 2, Pearl (3 years old) and Sophe (10 months old). depending on the breed, some are easier to handle, carefor and raise then others. We are currently raising Rex breed but Sophe is mixed with Flemish Giant/Rex. She's turning out to be much larger than Pearl who's all Rex. They can eat a lot unless you put them on a feeding schedule, can be trained to use a littre box with cat litter (non clumping kind)-mine like to eat cat litter, don't know why. They do prefer to eat a lot of hay/alfalpha but becareful if you have allergies. Most people can handle rabbits when they have allergies to cats/dogs but check this out before buying one. Rabbits don't useually see vets unless they get ill/sick not usual if they've been taken care of properly. Vet insurance is available now for small pets including rabbits.......
