Pearl Jam album Ten "The first time I listened to this I couldnt get over the energy in the music, in the lyrics and even the passion I could feel in Vedder's voice. I always like it when artists address real issues that plague current times. This is very much protrayed in Jeremy. A kid who shot himself in class. Teen shootings and suicide was starting to get attention and while people went o my god that kid must have been crazy what a loser, the song seems to go more in depth about what this kid was like at home as well as in school. He just needed someone to reach out to him, but it was too late. Its an amazing album for sure!"
...

Pearl Jam's Ten is one of the greatest albums of my generation. Eddie and the gang got it right on their first try together. Eddie tells the story of his life with his lyrics and Jeff & Stone back him up powerful guitar and bass. If you are a fan of 90s "grunge", this is the best of the Seattle groups (which is saying a lot, considering Nirvana and Alice in Chains are the competition).
...

sunkreeper says "Pearl Jam's Ten album stands the test of time." about Pearl Jam - Ten

Coming from age of grunge music, most people have a hard time recognizing the good from the bad. The album, Ten, by Pearl Jam is one of those albums that every time you go back and listen to it, you get something new out of it. From the raw energy of Evenflow, to the great storytelling of Jeremy, to the emotionallity of Black, you can't argue that Pearl Jam epxertly molded together an album of incredible diversity. Unlike many bands out there from the grunge scene, Pearl Jam didn't fall fate to "one hit wonders" like so many bands did, making sure that every song on the album sounded as good as the rest. Unlike so many grunge bands out there, Pearl Jam actually knew how to play their instruments. Taking the intensity of grunge music of the time and adding a bluesy flavor giving the grunge scene a very soulfull sound, Pearl Jam stands out as one of the elite bands of their time showing even after almost 18 years why Ten is a great album. I highly reccomend this to anyone who likes rock music.......

chill17 says "One of the best albums of the 90s" about Pearl Jam - Ten

Pearl Jam's Ten was likely the most important album for me in high school. Each song is poignant and well done, and the interplay between the musicians is incredible. There is a great balance of song types, and Eddie Vedder's vocals are consistently compelling.

The album opens with "Once," an up-tempo song that is part of what has come to be known as the "Gossman trilogy" (along with "Footsteps" and "Alive"). Then comes "Evenflow" (Perhaps as famous for Adam Sandler's parody as 'Operaman' as for the original), which moves along at a brisk tempo. Despite the parody, I think Vedder's vocals on this one are completely appropriate, as close to 'in the headspace' of a homeless man as I can imagine, and the lyrical imagery is beautiful ("lays his head on a pillow made of concrete," "thoughts arrive like butterflies"). Also, it contains my favorite guitar riff on the album. Then comes "Alive," another song in the Gossman trilogy. The song describes a mother's obsession with her son as a kind......

This album is one of the Top 5 albums ever made along with Pink Floyds Dark Side of the Moon and Dave Matthews Band's Before These Crowded Streets.

Their is nothing wrong wth this album from start to end. For anyone who is a non Pearl Jam fan and gets this album and does not like or enjoy 3/4th of the album then they do not like or enjoy music at all.
...

MattA75 says "Ten is wrongly considered Pearl Jam's creative peak." about Pearl Jam - Ten

Pearl Jam's seminal 1991 debut Ten is considered by many to be the band's creative peak. With the successful singles Alive, Even Flow, and Jeremy all present, it's not hard to see why. And with deeper album cuts like Black and Release, the argument becomes seemingly invincible.

But while lead singer Eddie Vedder's vocals are in tip top shape, and the band behind him all prove to be very capable at their respective instruments, the way the record sounds holds it back from becoming anything other than a mid-range listen.

Songs like Once and Deep are soaked in reverb, giving the record a tinny, unpleasant listening quality. The production doesn't help, easily the poorest of any major label rock release of the last 15 years. Given the material present, with all 11 songs having massive potential, the fact that only a few truly stand out is this record's most damning indictment. Alive's arena rock solo, Black's lament of unrequited love, and the tinkling notes of Release stand out more...
...
