northcascades says "Indestructible camera. Good zoom, too." about Panasonic - Lumix DMC-LZ7

I received this camera as a Christmas present and could not be more pleased with it. I have dropped it several times in snow, water, on rocks, etc and it still works! There are chips on the casing, but it works very well still.

It can zoom up to 36x, which is the most I have ever seen out of a $125 camera. The pictures it takes are excellent. I am using it for my photography class at university and it is perfect. The camera has lots of pre-set modes for people who aren't camera-savvy (including some cool ones like candlelight, fireworks, etc that I'd not seen in a camera before). You can put it in a semi-manual mode to tweak some of the settings yourself and change the exposure, or just leave it on simple automatic mode.

This camera would be best for someone who wants a step up from a basic point-and-shoot but doesn't want to go whole hog with one of the big, hefty digital SLR cameras. It's a good compromise between automatic and manual, and the zoom and sturdy build make...
...

This inexpensive Compact has very good image quality, produces images with Good sharpness and some noise. Performs very well in next-shot delay, which is very short. It lagged in performance in first-shot delay, with more than other cameras. Has excellent dynamic range, which allows this camera to shoot photos in a wide variety of shooting situations

The Lumix DMC-LS85 is a digital camera available from Panasonic.

Standard features include:

Every Panasonic Lumix, from the large FZ series of super-zooms to the budget LZ and LS series, has optical stabilization. FX-series subcompacts feature several modes and auto features; high-end LX can capture photos in 16:9 aspect mode, while the TZ-series compacts are super-zooms. Lumix cameras offer great value when they combine optical image stabilization with innovations such as intelligent ISO, which automatically raises...
...

The Panasonic-Lumix DMC-LZ7 is a great digital camera for beginners and advanced photograpers alike. This camera not only shoots color pictures but black & white and sepia toned photographs as well. It can be a little intimidating at first unless you just want to point and shoot. It has a little dial with different pictures to help you make your best selection when taking a picture. It also has a review status on the dial that will let you look at all the pictures you have taken so far.
...

I got my digital camera last Christmas from my mom and was a little bit disappointed at first, because it wasn't what I asked for. I'm personally a fan of small cameras that don't have the lump sticking out for extra grip, but some people like that, just for a little security when you're worried about dropping it. I also thought that it takes the picture a little bit slowly. I like the cameras that let you take a picture instantly, and you don't miss an opportunity for a great picture that flies by. I also thought that it was a little bit slow getting ready to take a second picture. I like the fact that it has special features for individual lighting situations (such as candlelight, beach, scenery, portrait, soft skin, party, etc.) It's helpful if you're not sure whether the picture is going to turn out too dark, or whether or not you should turn on the flash. Another problem I had with it, though, was that it took me MONTHS to figure out how to get a black and white or sepia picture. Not...
...

The Panasonic DMC-LZ7 is a GREAT camera. A few features that I think are most important is that it uses AA batteries--either rechargeables or single-use. That is MUCH cheaper than the lithium rectangular batteries that many of the compact cameras use. And the AA batteries, even rechargeables, last a long time--up to 200-300 shots, even using fill-in flash most of the time. Another feature is the 2.5" LCD screen. But be careful, some other models in this Panasonic series have only a 2.0" screen. The camera has so many features that I am still learning new things, even though I have had the camera for nearly a year. But with "Intelligent ISO" setting, you can start using it practically without ever reading the owners manual. The
...

We reviewed many reviews online before selecting a camera. This camera is the most you can get for a fair amount of money. It does alot and is very simple to use. It even has a "simple" mode for the less technical person. I use it all the time and always keep it handy. I have three kids and I don't want to miss a thing. The fact that you can take as many pics as you want and delete the ones you don't like is awesome!...

I have used it at birthday parties, weddings, outdoor scenes, etc... I love the zoom range! It takes awesome close-up shots and has different color options that can put unique spins on photos. I would definitely recommend this camera to anybody looking for quality at a low price....

The Panasonic DMC-Lz7 is a great value of the cost. It takes great, clear pictures and is good in different lights. It's video function is also pretty good. However, because the camera doesn't cost as much as others might, you have to sacrifice a couple things. There is no view finder (just the digital screen) and I've heard some call the camera "bulky" (it's not super slim, but it's really not that bad). I really don't think either of those traits make this an inconvenient camera to use. If you don't need all the bells and whistles of a "professional" camera and are just looking for a reliable camera that takes good pictures, this is it. It's a great camera for families....

This camera was recommended to us by a friend who is a professional photographer. She uses a Panasonic with a Leica lens for everyday photos of her family, etc. Leica has been making lenses for more than 50 years and their commitment to quality is now extended to the lenses they make for Panasonic/Lumix. This is a digital camera and has 7.2 megapixels, but the photos come out looking as if they have 10.

Sometimes the gadget-y side of the techno geeks who designed it show through--there is a pet setting, for instance, which will caculate the age of the pet if you put in its birthday. It's an animal, folks. We don't need to know that Fluffy was 9 1/2 when we took this photo of her peeing by the beach.
...

I was very impressed with this camera. The quality of the pictures is outstanding. I was quickly able to tell this was a quality camera when I took a picture 2-3 feet away and was able to read the address written on a piece of paper behind the person I was taking the picture of.

There are a lot of options and set up features for the camera for a more experienced camera user. I am not experience and was able to get quality pictures from the camera with ease.

The lcd screen on the camera is also great and the zoom feature is really easy to use.

The only draw back I saw was that because of the mega pixel quality the file size of the pictures once downloaded to the computer was quite large.

...

I love my camera and love to sing its praises! My camera is a Panasonic DMC-LZ7. It is 7 megapixels. Megapixels are important when it comes to enlarging your photos. I have enlarged photos to 11x17 with my 5 megapixel version of this camera with amazing results. Many cameras now come standard 10 megapixels, yet I do not believe that is so important when you can get professional looking enlargements with even a 5 megapixel.

Now to talk zoom. The biggest selling point to me for my camera was the 6x optical zoom. There is no other camera I could find, in my price range anyway, that has a 6x optical zoom. Key selling point for me. Most cameras come with 3x. If you enjoy taking photos of landscapes and scenery the higher optical zoom is definitely a must! Digital zoom is different, it only zooms your picture after you shoot it, not before.

I also love that my camera has a histogram, which is a little meter that shows up on my screen. It is like a little light meter that tells me if...

...
