reet80 says "The rewards selection has really gone downhill." about Pampers Gifts to Grow Program

I've been participating in the Pampers Gifts to Grow program ever since my oldest son was born in 2005. (I'm on my third child now and have used Pampers for each of them, so I've racked up a pretty decent amount of points.)

The first couple of years were great! There was a big selection of prizes ranging from small toys and books to substantial, big-ticket items like tricycles and such. Granted, it took a while to save up for the pricier stuff, but it was worth it. I personally enjoyed the free movie coupons; movies are expensive, and a "free" night out with my husband was always nice. Not to mention they were printable right from your computer, so there were no shipping and handling charges to hassle with.

But those are gone now, as is almost everything else that was REALLY worth saving up points for. Now it's pretty much a couple of books and a bunch of photo stuff: photo prints, photo calendars, etc. Those things are fine, but if you're a veteran of the program and remember the...
...

When I found out about Pampers Gifts To Grow Program I was hooked! I had tried other diapers on my daughter - but Pampers fit her best as an infant, so we stuck with it when I realized we could EARN COOL STUFF!

I shopped around for the best deals on diapers and used everything from Diapers.com to Auto-delivery from Amazon.com - so I usually spent the same as if I purchased a no-name brand, so Gifts To Grow made my bargain hunting really pay off.

We got:

A Kettrike - retail value $220

A Dora Lego Set

Books

Melissa & Doug puzzles

It was awesome - but now the ride is over because she is potty trained!

Oh - and call in if you wonder when new items will come out. The helpful staff WILL tell you.
...

I discovered the Pampers Gifts to Grow Program by signing up with Pampers before my son was born. So naturally I bought Pampers diapers so, I could collect the points. I buy the big boxes from Sam's Club or Babies R Us. You collect more points that way and save money buying in bulk. I collect enough points over a period of months and redeemed them for a $10.00 options card. It was great because I could use it at 3 different stores. It didn't have an expiration date on it either. It took a little while to receive it. I was upset when I heard they were ending the program because I looked forward to saving the points and getting something in return for buying diapers. I was glad when they extended it again. I have saved up enough points for another $10.00 gift card. I went and looked at the rewards this time and there really wasn't anything good. I was really disappointed. The giftcards that everyone wants are the ones that they have a limited amount of.
...

The gifts to grow program sounds great until you see the shipping costs for the toys. I ended up getting a coupon for diapers that we use anyway. I thought I would be able to get something to put under the tree but you can get the item for less than the shipping in most cases....

I joined the Pampers Gifts to Grow Program when it first started in 2005. It was only supposed to run for a couple of years but due to popularity, it keeps getting extended and currently runs through March 1, 2010.

The Pampers Gifts to Grow Program is based on accumulating points for each package of Pampers purchased. The jumbo size package of Pampers is worth three points and larger packages are worth more. There is a code inside of each package of diapers, which is then manually entered online at the Pampers website.

It's easy to join the Pampers Gifts to Grow Program and once a member, you also have access to parenting information, free coupons, and other features of the website. I don't know why anyone would NOT join this program, especially because the only cost involved is when the points are redeemed and you have to pay for shipping. Otherwise, the items that you receive are FREE!

The rewards tend to change so sometimes there are great items to get and other times...
...

This program helped us get our son a tricycle that we couldn't have afforded otherwise. Shipping is reasonable, but codes take a long time to accrue. However, we've gotten several "free" toys and since we're buying Pampers anyway, it is a worthwhile program....

mssandling says "Too few pts per item, too many pts for reward, too much 2 ship" about Pampers Gifts to Grow Program

I'm not pleased with this program. You only get 3 points for a regular size package of diapers, you need 100 points to get anything good, the lower points items (a book for 20) costs $6+ to ship, more than it would cost at any book store. The amount of points needed for a free pampers pack coupon is 125, you'd need to buy some 40+ packages (at 3 each) to get a free jumbo pack. Not bad if you ONLY use pampers, but for a parent who can't afford to be picky, you get what's on sale, have a coupon for, or given to you, it's not a worthwhile program.

That said, I logged on one night, had enough points to get the blockbuster night coupon, and when I went to click on it (it was there) it was GONE....

Not cool. Not happy. Now, I've gotta earn LOTS more points, or spend them on some toy that my kid won't like, that will cost me $10 to ship it to me... Nuh Un.

NO thank you.
...

I was part of this great program when my first child was born in 2004. It was really fun and I was able to get some great gifts out of it too. Granted, I still paid way more in diapers tan I did for all the gift to grow points but, my kids did like some of the neat toys I was able to get from these points so that was super fun. I still buy pampers for my youngest currently and I do miss those silly little stickers with the codes that I was able to just plug into my gifts to grow website page. Oh well, maybe they will do another program in the future although at that time I will be no longer a mom needing to buy diapers!...

Ok, so this isn't the GREATEST rewards program out there, but it is nice to have the opportunity to get something back for all those diaper changes, even if it isn't much. I only use pampers, so of course I decided to participate. It gives me a little (and I must stress LITTLE) something positive about all those boxes of diapers I buy.

The rewards aren't the best, and there aren't tons to chose from, but I can usually find something fun to redeem my points for. You have to check the site often because the rewards come and go like clockwork. I have learned not to get my heart set on redeeming for a particular item because it may be gone by the time you save enough to get it. The shipping isn't too bad for each item, I have done ebay in the past and know that shipping can be ridiculous, so I don't even flinch at that. On the items I have gotten so far, I have gotten them at about a 50% discount off of retail price if you count the shipping as cost. We have gotten some really cute things......

I figure I am using the product anyway I should get all the benefits from it. I redeemed my points last September and I just had to pay for the shipping.
