lanak says "Beta fish is one of the most beautiful fishes!" about PetSmart Beta Fish

Hello! I am a long-time fish lover! I had plenty of fish: guppies, tetras, gouramis, cory cats, plecos and some others. Betas are my favorite fish so far! For a long time I did not want to get betas, as I thought that having one fish in the tank would be boring, and besides PetSmart sells this fish in a very small bowls (a glass-size), and they keep them on the shelf, with a little light, so it is just impossible to see all the beauty of this fish. That is why I never paid any attention to betas, unless I actually saw beta fish while visting my friend, who owns two betas. I was stunned! I got myself two male betas and they live in two seprate bowls. Having betas is so enjoyable! Each male beta has to live in a separate bowl, and because this fish is so colorful it looks great being alone! Please do not put two (or more) male betas in one tank! They will fight until one of them survives. Taking care of betas is very easy, so this is a great fish for beginners! Though not all PetSmart employees...
...

I think tetras are great fun. I bought one for my granddaughter last spring but sadly it died a few days later. PetSmart was great! They exchanged it without any problem. The replacement has thrived. Now I'm not sure one can say a fish has personality but darn if this one hasn't seemed to have developed one. He started as a kind of pale, shy little thing but has grown more colorful and out going everyday. Now he always comes to see us when we walk by or feed him. He will in fact jump out of the water a little in an effort to get his food. You don't need and aquarium and the food is inexpensive. Two big pluses for owning a fish.
...

Petsmart Betta fish can be good or bad. I have gone in there and found beautiful, healthy fish, but I have also seen unhealthy fish. I also don't like that they keep their fish in cramped quarters. They have varying prices on their fish. They fmale, regular male, and crowntail fish. I wish that they would keep a supply of healthy fish at all times. They almost get too many fish at one time. There isn't a possible way to keep that many fish healthy at one time. I don't want to say that they are all bad. I have several Petsmarts in my town, and they all aren't the same. Some stores keep their stock healthier than others. The staff at the different stores also varies. I wish that keep their fish in good order. I really do like the store, and they have a good supply of all of their animals. I just can't rely on them to always have one when I am ready for new pet. I might end up going to another store.
...

soo this fish the petsmart beta fish is very interestng so it is one of those few fishes that you can keep or have with out having one of those huge fish tanks. so i had bought one for my husband and he always wanted a fish so we went to suprise him . we bought the fish bought the food and had a fish tank and brought him home everyone enjoyed him that night . wel also remmember that they cant be more than one beta fish in a tank or they will fight untill one of them survives. anyways the next day they fish was slowe r and had no color we had no idea what was wrong with him. so then on to the next day he was dead no one at that store had ask us any questions about if we were first timers or had some already so we had no idea we had to add this liquid to their water to help them live. so that poor fish died in two days. even though those fishes dont even last a year maybe the greatest 6 moths. so i would tell you buy it if you dintget sad if it dies and if u only want one fish in one fish...
...

I stopped by Pet Smart over 2 years ago in search of a fish for my office. I found a beautiful, orange and red beta fish. I named him George. George comes out of his hiding spot behind some rocks every morning to greet me. When I changed his tank water, he swims laps for me. He has been a great companion and friend in my office....

We bought a crowntail beta at PetSmart about 6 months ago; he's truly beautiful, and lives in a 2.5 gal. hex tank with an undergravel filter/aeriator. He also has a few ghost shrimp and an otocinclus catfish as tank-mates! He's a great fish, very responsive, and has inspired my son to research more fish! Now we have a 20 gallon long, a 20 gallon tall, and a fry tank for baby platies. Haha, don't go overboard like we did--but my son is very much into it, and I am too. We're very happy with our beta; he's right beside the bed, so my son watches him as he falls asleep each night. The aeriator sound is good white noise for him as well.

We're pretty much happy with PetSmart and their services; one sales associate said "I think fish are boring", so we avoid her. The other sales associates are very helpful, and most own their own tanks and have first hand experience. Haha, my son even said he'd like to work at PetSmart "when I'm in college." High praise from a kid, I think. ...
...

My first fish was a Betta fish from PetSmart. He lived for about a year and a half in my care, which is average. PetSmart, like many other pet stores, sells Betta fish that are one to two years old because they have more developed fins. The staff was very helpful. I had a few problems with fin rot, but it was easily fixed. A great first fish, especially if you are interested in small tropical fish such as guppies, mollies and platys. ...

Betas are very intelligent and fast learners. The males are the bright and have the flowing fins, the females are usually plain.Never put 2 males or more together in the same tank, they are fighting fish and will fight with each other.if you want to see what they do put a mirror in front of the tank so he can see himself,he will puff out his gill flaps and start swimming frantically, this is his way of looking bigger and more vicious to the other male. The male will make a bubble nest that floats on the top of the water when he is ready to breed. If at that time you put a female in there he will wrap around her and squeeze the eggs out of her, then he will fertilize the eggs which get put into the bubble nest.Once he gets the eggs out you must remove the female and let her heal. Some females have died from the mating squeeze that is why it is important to watch and remove her when he has the eggs, also she will eat the eggs and or the young when they hatch so the father is the one who tends the......

The dang thing... Can't teach it to sit up, beg, roll over or anything. Just kidding! He does know when I'm coming with the food though. Smart little goober.

To the person(s) having a hard time keeping them alive; several points to consider. #1) When you clean the tank, use a mild detergent, rinse & let dry thoroughly. #2) If you have decorative rocks, BOIL THEM! Then rinse using cool or cold water in a Mesh Colander. #3) Feeding; I find feeding mine every other day using five or six Betta Bits works better vs. every day using one or two bits. He's over a year old & still doing OK.

I've been told the males don't get along...so don't buy two male Beta Fish. I just have the one. Sometimes he swims around so fast, it's amazing. Sometimes he likes to lay in his 'fake plant' and rest. Inexpensive to buy, own and take care off. Thumbs up.
...
