ezraafriedman says "petco is such a rip-off. Go to target, stop & shop, shoprite, wmart" about PETCO

Holy cow, If you want to spend way more than you have to then feel free and go to petco. Not only will you get treated like garbage bt you will also pay almost twice as much as you should for anything in the store. I am not affiliated with any franchise market however I feel the need to give you examples. For example, I have 2 cats and have been searching for the best deals on all their necessities. The food I give them is friskies signature blend.

friskies signature blend 16 DOLLARS AT PETCO and 10 DOLLARS AT TARGET and 13 dollars at shoprite.

The arma and hammer litter deodarizer 3.50 at Petco and 2.25 (or less) at shoprite.

Arm and Hammer Multicat Clumping litter (30 something pounds I think) 16 dollars at Petco and 9-11 Dollars at target

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!This one thing pissed me off so much that I felt I had to write a review. I bought a litter genie at petco for 35 dollars. I saw it a couple weeks later out of nowhere at stop and shopfor 21 dollars!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

How much...
...

inthewerks says "As a current employee, let me tell you how it really is." about PETCO

Let me start off by saying that I am a current employee at PETCO, and I want to share with you how this business is really run. I got hired at PETCO a little over a year ago because they needed an aquatics specialist in the store badly. I have been keeping and breeding cichlids for years, kept fowler and reef saltwater tanks, as well as planted aquariums and so on. So I was hired for the aquatics department. This is by far the WORST job I have ever had. We go through a computer training class in the back that doesnt really teach you anything that people with common sense shouldnt already know. The gm and assisntant are on salary but everyone else is hourly. The "managers" in charge of animals, stocking, nutrition etc, all get about 32 hours a week while the regular employees who do most of the work only get about 20-25 hours a week. The regular employees are crapped on and the "managers" arent treated much better. The store is run like crap with animals not being taken care of until the...
...

This is a great pet buying and pet supply place. It sells anything from dogs to spiders to chinchillas. It's very well stocked. All of my best pet things came from there. Lots of dog toys, beds, spinning wheels for smaller animals, litter boxes, leashes, tanks, food, fish, bones, the works. The prices are sometimes a bit too high but usually very afforable. they also treat their pets well, even if the dog and cat kennels are a bit small. At least they feed the pets and give them to good homes. I really like Petco.
...

carolscookie says "PETCO, a company with knowledgeable and caring associates!" about PETCO

In the long line of inefficient, lackadaisically and clueless workers, I have found a diamond among the coal. Petco, claims to be the place "where pets would go" and in my opinion, that is exactly what Petco is.

To clarify my authority of dealing with pet companies that simplify do not measure up, let me start by saying, the following pets live with myself, my husband and our 4 children. So here goes. We own two dogs an 8 year Dachsund (overweight), a two year old Border Collie, smarter than us and more obedient at times, than the children. Two Cats, an 11 year old American short haired, hunter cat, and a 9 year old, overweight mixed long haired one. Three guinea pigs, 1 dwarf hamster, a gecko and a 5ft red tail boa. So as you can see, I invest a lot of my money on just the pets!

Two months ago I purchased a new bedding for my daughters Teddy Bear Hamster that had been part of our family for over 2 years. The day we put this new bedding in "Golden" began to have breathing issues....
...

They were offering free shipping if you order $50 or more, so I made my order more than $50, clicked (and waited) to get the promotion code, entered the code (thanks for the extra step, Petco), and it was denied. Lather, rinse repeat, still nothing. One more time, nothing.

Then two tries attempting to pay with PayPal, zip.

Finally got the order out using a credit card. I'd have given up, but the darn cat likes his Petkin Kitty Toothwipes and I can't find them anywhere else. Yeah, I'm a slave. Well, I don't yell at the cat, so I'm yelling at PetCo. Thanks so much for all the extra typing you made me do, PetCo. I was just trying to give you my money.
...

The Petco grooming salon on South Beach Parkway in Jacksonville Beach has some great dog lovers working there. I have taken my "son" Bear there and they have been wonderful. Theya re friendly to me and to Bear. They even gave him a new collar once when his was not in the best shape. They have given him a snack bag as a gift for me to take home. He enjoyed the snacks for days. They have no problem keeping him all day while I am at work and letting me drop him off early. They have even left him out front with them if he is the last one to be picked up. I have also called at the last minute on the weekend and they have always been able to fit him in. They are also very affordable and offer a special deshedding service that I take advantage of. I have reccomended them to several people and will continue to do so. The only bad thing I could say would be that the cashiers in the store part are not always the most friendly but I only interact with them to pay for the grooming. I am more intersted...
...

Petco is a great place to find pet products for your dog, cat, bird, fish, hamster, guinea pig, and others. I buy most of my dog food and products at Petco, because of the availability and price. There's a wide variety of dog and cat food and treats. Check out their adoption area for cats. I always stop to visit the cats up for adoption. Petco has almost everything you need for your pet. They also have a wide variety of pets for sale if you are looking for a hamster, guinnea pig, mice, fish, lizards, birds and other small pets. My dog enjoys the natural treats that Petco has in the front of their store sold by the pound. You can pick and choose. It's a great way to see if your dog likes a treat without buying a whole bag, since you can buy as little or as much as you want. If you need clothes for your dog, Petco is a great place to find what you need. Occassionally, Petco runs low on certain clothing items. Petco has a very large area of each department. Petco...
...

i was a former employee at PETCO's grooming salon. For now, im going to call it the abuse center. SO, i worked at this abuse center (PETCO) for 5 months. i am also a grooming salon owner who was looking to make a few extra bucks. I later witnessed a 4 month of puppy being hit 3-4 times in the face where the tooth went through the lip. the reason he did it was because the puppy would not stay still for the nail clipping. so he jerked her little body around and she got scared. she she tried to get away and he hit her. i held the sweet thing in my arms while it was shaking like a seizure! puppies who are getting their first grooming are very sensitive. you need to be gentle and do whatever it takes to be patient not the ruin the experiance for the puppy forever! i yelled at him saying, "WHY WOULD YOU DO THAT!?!?" he replied with a simple, "if my dog was being an ***hole, i would have done the sameeeee thing." i reported to the local spca, the manager and owner of this specific store (reading,...
...

Petco just plain stinks.

I worked at the St.Louis Petco stores for over four years as an assistant manager.

The quality of the livestock they purchase is horrid and the shipping and handling they employ is criminal.

Animals commonly arrive dead or near death from the shipping.

The bottom line minded corporate morons know nothing about the pet industry except how to milk it for as much profit as they can get by with.

Their best employees are usually fired for bullshit reasons to replace them with cheaper less experienced employees.

Employee theft is rampant.

Training in animal care is virtually non exsistant.

Petco just plain sucks.
...

DebbieJ01 says "Petco headquarters not interested in satisfied customers" about PETCO

Petco grooming in Colma, California chopped my two poodles and had no remorse. My rescue poodle that I've had for 2 years is highly acceptable to razor burn. They were told for health purposes not to clip his body, only trim the top of his head, clean his face and paws. The only thing they did was shave his body to the skin. Didn't even wash his face or touch the hair on his head or paws. They were told to give my red poodle a poodle cut. The only thing they did was scissor chop his body and gave him a flat top with strands of hair flipped over his eyes. They both looked like mutts when I picked them up. Of course you have to pay before seeing your dog. I went straight to the manager. He said the groomer was good at clipping german shepards. I've never seen a german shepard that had to be clipped. The manager offered me a discount on the grooming. I told him I wanted someone that knew how to groom to repair my dogs. He could only offer me a discount. I got...
...

Petco Grooming in Jupiter, FL. This is a new store but the grooming manager shouldn't be new to the business. My regular groomer recently had surgery and closed her shop for a few weeks and I was desperate. My Shihtzu needed a bath and a trim badly, so I thought I'd give the newly opened Petco a try. I went in and decided to ask for the grooming manager to groom my dog, figuring she had the most experience. I was apparently wrong. After dropping my dog off at 10:08 am on a Sunday I was told my dog would be ready by 1:00 but they would call if he was ready earlier. I didn't get a call so I went back at 1:30. The place was swamped with people, apparently there was a vaccination clinic going on and my dog was no where in sight. I said I was there to pick up my dog and the girl at the desk said he wasn't ready yet. I asked how much longer and the Manager said it would be a few more hours that they were understaffed and hadn't gotten to him yet. I wasn't happy, but I understand...
...

Chrissy66 says "Higher than Petsmart" about PETCO

We have both a Petsmart and a Petco in the town where we shop. I have always went to the web to see what the sales were. Petco had some of their Cat Toys on sale. Then when we went to the store to purchase them they had another price on them. They told us that they do not honor their sales on the internet.

Another turn off to me with Petco is that they will not honor there competitors prices as they say they will. Also they are alot higher than Petsmart and do not have as good of a selection as does Petsmart. I have had cats ever since I was little and ever since Petsmart we have always shopped there. Then when Petco came they promised they would meet there competitors price and they wouldn't.

Also everytime you go into the store there is never anyone around to help you or answer any questions that you may have about a certain product.

The only good thing I can say is the doggie treat bar. If you have a dog that is great.
...
