I purchased an Oreck XL Professional Air Purifier in August 2005 directly from the Oreck website and have been using it daily ever since. I initally had some problems with it about the time Hurricane Katrina hit - when I soaked it to clean the filter some of the wires came lose. I called Oreck and they immediately mailed me a replacement filter. They said that the red light would be on and unless it sparked it was safe to use it. Since it was during Hurricane Katrina's immediate aftermath, it took a little longer than normal to get the replacement but I felt that under the circumstances it got to me rather quickly. I haven't had any problems since. If an insect flies into the unit you will hear a crackling popping sound but otherwise nothing. I love how clean the air smells - it quickly rids the house of any odors. I keep mine set on the silent mode but during the day if I'm cooking or happen to have something spill in the oven sending smoke in the room, it turn it to high for...

It keeps your home clean and it is easy to clean. This item is not an eye soar. I have recommended this item to my friends and family and bought one for my mother. It doesn't use a lot of electricity. I bought one and you get the other for 1/2 off with a free gift and also free shipping so you can't beat that....

The oreck air purifer works great at cleaning the air you breath but when it comes to cleaning the collection grid and panels you can either do a poor job and have to clean more often or try and clean throughly and run the risk of bending or breaking very delicate wires the run accross the ion panels. I had trouble and had to replace the ion panels due to that fact that if bent the wires that run across the panels causeing them to arc on them selfs and this doesn't allow the machine to work. Now I am forced to clean repeatitly becuae I am affriad to damge the machine again....

When we purchased the Oreck it worked great, filtered the air ok, not as good as I expected. Oreck is very messy to clean, not as easy as depicted on TV. We have taken the machine to the Oreck store twice the 2nd time there were issues with the fan they said it was not under warranty unless we had purchased a higher model. We paid $250 each for 2 Oreck air purifiers we did not get what we expected for service at all.

Overall I am very disappointed at the machines performance and the warranty claimed to be so good by Oreck. It's a lot of $$ to pay for "clean air".
