pitbulliest says "The worst food out there!" about Ol' Roy (Walmart) Dog Food

Probably the worst, most inexpensive, and lowest in quality dog food out on the market. I rather feed my dog table scraps for the rest of her life than feed this junk. Filled with byproducts, additives, coloring, chemicals, and other harsh ingredients. I am not sure who would be willing to pay for this food. Once I checked out the nutritional analysis and ingredient list for this food, I begged all my friends who have or currently use this food to switch off as soon as possible. Do not be fooled by vets who say this food is alright for your dog. They are on commission with local companies to refer customers over so that they can get bonuses. Furthermore, most veterinarians have very little knowledge and background in canine nutrition. If you speak with an actual nutritionist who specializes in dogs, you will realize that this is not something your dog should be eating, ever. Its a health disaster waiting to happen!
...

as a dog owner first and foremost and a animal lover second, i would not give ol' roy anything to the birds outside much less to the dogs that are like my babies. if you will look at the ingredients the first thing the company list is not meat and is mostly feelers, i have three dogs and since i have taken them off ol'roy dog food they are healthier and their coats are better looking.and they are full of life again, one dogs coat even changed to a lighter brown than it was. i asked my vet about it and he asked me what kind of dog food i was using and i told him that i had recently change from ol'roy to the brand i use now. that is when he informed me that he has actually seen dog starve to death due to malnutriention from olroy ... not to mention that the animals would be better off eating off the table than eating that brand of dog food . well if i am going to trust my dogs life to this vet in all other forms why would i not trust him with what is best for thier belies. and i have...
...

pitcherday says "Ol' Roy is a poor choice - low quality dog food" about Ol' Roy (Walmart) Dog Food

What to feed your dog seems to spark heated debate. The fact is that by-products, rendered meats, or blood and bone meal are crappy things to feed a dog. Wheat and corn are also difficult for dogs to digest. What goes in dog food is barely regulated. As a matter of fact, it's OK to include peanut shells and small amounts of newspaper in dog food.

Ol' Roy is cheap. It is full of garbage ingredients and fillers. If you have a big dog that eats a lot, you may think it's the most economical. That may not be true. Because of the low nutritive value of Ol' Roy, dogs have to eat more of it to meet their needs. You will most likely find that a higher-quality food with no fillers or by-products has a higher density of nutrients and fiber, so a dog won't need such a huge amount to be full.

If you try to switch a dog off Ol' Roy, you may have a challenge on your hands. Ol' Roy contains corn syrup (in the first 5 ingredients) which sweetens it considerably. Of course a dog doesn't want to eat...
...

nikkilugi says "Ol' Roy is cost effective - but not great food for your dogs" about Ol' Roy (Walmart) Dog Food

A while ago I bought Ol' Roy dog food from my local Wal-Mart store. I bought it because it was a cheaper option for my dogs and meat was listed as the first ingredient. My dogs seemed to enjoy the taste - however, they are not very picky eaters. After about a week I noticed that one of my dogs was losing hair around his eyes. I started to freak out thinking that he had mange or some other serious dog disease. I took him to the vet and his skin was tested for infection and after coming back negative the vet asked me if I had changed his diet. I confirmed that I had indeed bought a new food within the last month. The vet said that more than likely my dog had an allergic reaction to the food and that was why he was losing his hair.

I have since stopped feeding him the Ol' Roy and his hair has grown back. I regularly change up my dogs' diets and they have never had an allergic reaction or problem with any other brand of dog food. After doing some more research I have found...
...

Ol roy lamb and rice is actually a fairly good dog food. it has lamb as the first ingredient, not corn, Alot of your "grocery brands" i.e. pedirgee, dog chow,ol roy. have corn as the first ingredient. corn is not that good for dogs. It is better to have a meat first. lamb and rice is good for dogs with allergies or stomach problems. this is the only ol roy product that i would recommend to anyone.
...

nitrain says "affordable health" about Ol' Roy (Walmart) Dog Food

My dogs have ate Ol Roy for many, many years and are very healthy. As a matter of fact they love this brand over most any other. At 10 and 13 years old my dogs do extremely well on Ol Roy. I tried changing their food once and it really didn't agree with either of them. You really don't need to change your pets diet around much anyway because it really does upset their digestive system. Animals are alot like people, you eat a food that doesn't agree with you then it upsets your stomach and possibly even makes you sick, well same goes for our pets. I found a food in Ol Roy that my dogs love, that's healthy for them and it's at an affordable price....

When we got a puppy we started feeding it Ol Roy dog food, not knowing any better and believing the "healthy" hype on the bag. Soon our puppy loosing the hair around his eye. We took him to the vet and discovered he had mange. The vet asked what we were feeding him, and when we told him Ol' Roy, he told us how bad this food was. We did some research, and found a high quality dog food. Within two weeks the hair was back around his eye, he was noticably more energetic, and his coat took on a shiny glean and smooth feel. We took all the Ol' Roy we had and threw it in the garbage, where it belongs.
...

Take a look at the bag. ( hold on, I am looking up the ingredients )

Look at the very first ingredient, let alone the first 4 or 5.. CORN, then soybean meal, then wheat, and corn syrup.. What about that is good? It is preserved with BHA which causes cancer in people and dogs.
There is no reason to even go on.. It's garbage dogfood.. I wouldn't feed it if my dog was hungry and all the dogfood stores were closed... I would be further ahead to take her thru drivethru at Wendy's and get her a burger... Ol Roy itself is recalled all the time because of Salmonella poisoning.. But the crap ingredients speak for themselves.

~Ingredients~
Ground yellow corn, soybean meal, ground whole wheat, corn syrup, poultry fat, Meat and bone meal (Animal Fat Preserved with BHA and Citric Acid), Chicken by-product Meal, Rice, Animal Digest, Salt, Calcium Carbonate, Potassium Chloride, Choline Chloride, Ferrous Sulfate, Zinc Oxide, Vitamin D and E Supplement, Niacin, Copper Sulafate, Manganous Oxide, Vitamin A Supplement,...
...
