fluffstuff10 says "It was great... but not for me personally." about Nuva Ring Birth Control

So I moved to college and signed up for birth control protection to avoid any "setbacks" to my career. Initially, I didn't want to try the pill because I have a hard time remembering to take my medications so I tried the nuva ring for about half a year.

On the plus side, my periods were reduced down to three days (usually seven or more) and they were mostly light with less menstrual pain.

However, I did notice an extreme mood shift where I became depressed along with being very irritable and angry at anyone close to me, including my mother is my best friend. I saw a small increase in my weight, but that didn't worry me too much since I expected it. Also, I had frequent headaches. The gyno believes that I may be sensitive to the estrogen in birth control medications.

I was forced to stop taking the nuva ring because I noticed that the back of my knee had a swelled bump. The gyno mentioned to me that the medicine was probably creating varicose veins in my legs.

I had no choice, but to...
...

I have been on Nuvaring for close to a year and love it! I could never take the pill because I could never remember to take it everyday. The ring is perfect. You can't feel it and only have to think about it twice a month. It is a little more expensive than the pill but well worth it. I have had no weight gain on nuvaring and no other side effects.
...

I have been Using the Nuva ring for several months now. I have to admit at first the thought of having to stuff this thing in me myself, kind of freaked me out! After trying it a couple of times I found out inserting it in the shower worked the best. It may feel uncomfortable in the beginning but after it is in and in the right place you really cant feel it at all. During sex it has fallen out but you can easily insert it again and quickly. My boyfriend actually made a funny comment saying "oh no there is a hole in it". I had to reassure him that it is suppose to look like that and that is why its called the "ring". Guys can be so clueless about these things. I do have to admit it is pretty expensive, but worth it. I always forgot to take my pill and I was allergic to the patch. I have not gained any weight from and my mood stays pretty even. I give it two thumbs up and why not try it for a month if it's not for you then switch back to what works for you.
...

I tried the nuva ring while getting into a newer relationship after a divorce. It had been a long time since I was on birth control as my ex husband had a vasectomy. I thought the nuva ring would be great...and in theory...it was. When I first began using it I told my new love that I was now on birth control...and choose not to explain any further. It was freeing and enjoyable and I remember thinking too myself how I couldnt feel it at all...till it was over. He looked...ahhh...fightened? confused? I asked what was wrong and he pointed to himself...The nuva ring had worked down his penis to the base like a cock ring. LMAO. Oh my god. LOL. Well....then I guessed it was time to now explain. He was okay....got over it...I rolled it off him and put it back...which seemed...odd for both of us I guess. lol. We went on for a few encounters with no problems and all was good. Okay....so thats not it. A few days later I stayed over his house two hours away for the night. ...
...

I love the Nuva Ring. I tried it because I did not want to risk forgetting to take the pill everyday. I'm already horrible at remembering to take vitamins, check the mail, feed the dog, etc.

You can't feel the Ring at all. It's easy to put in, and then you can forget about it for 3 weeks. I have friends that cringe when they hear you put it up "there" with your hand. Well how is that different than using a tampon? And once it's in, it's very comfortable. There's nothing weird about it. I promise you'll never feel it for the entire 3 weeks. It's easy to take out, and can be left out for up to 2 hours for your convenience.

You can even use the ring to control your periods. You can leave it in up to 4 weeks, so you have the option of moving your period back a week. I did this when I got married, just to make sure I had a good honeymoon. And since I've used the Nuva Ring, my periods have actually become shorter, lighter, and less painful. Love it!
...

Alyssa714 says "Great birth control." about Nuva Ring Birth Control

I love the nuva ring because its easy to use and it's been very effective considering that I am as fertile as fertile can be. I got the mirena at first and hated it because the strings where so uncomfortable and I just didn't want to wait months till they got soft. So I decided to try the nuva ring and it has worked out great! And I guess its working because I haven't gotten pregnant. I was positive if I would of gone on the pill I would of probably of had another baby. And the last thing I needed was to have two babies in the same year. I am so happy I went with it. I haven't gained weight I've kept my weight down and that is something I was very concerned about since I gained so much weight the last three weeks of my pregnancy when I went on maternity leave. You can't even feel the nuva at all, and if it slips out for some reason just rinse it and put it back in! its so simple! I will never try another birthcontrol every again until I get my tubes tied and I'm done with having children!...
...

I used Nuvaring for a couple of month and tracked it on a physical calendar. I marked my periods, insertion and removal dates. To my devestating surprise, I ended up in the hospital with horrible abdominal pain. The ER dr told me I was pregnant. I was having internal bleeding for about a week (thinking my period was lasting longer than usual), however, it was my right fallopian tube that ruptured. I was rushed to surgery. I had a heteroetopic pregnancy and drs were not expecting the fetus in my uterus to survive the tramau. Long story short, not only I'm I still pregnant but it was TWINS in my uterus!! I am trying so hard to deal with all that has occured in the past three weeks. Nuvaring didn't work for me, but it was good for not adding on extra weight.
...

Ok so in high school i was put on the birth control pill to control my acne and my period.. i used to spend a week in the bathroom puking my guts up before i got on birth control because the cramping was so horrendous. Well i got sick of having to remember the pill everyday so i began the depo shot which caused my body to think i was pregnant which caused me to gain 20pounds and lactate! well i definitely was not pregnant so i got off the shot and tried Yaz.. yaz was amazing but well it was a pill I had to once again remember and it was like i was playing roullette with the pill cuz i did not take it everyday like i was supposed to since i was not having sex. well after 3 months off birth control i asked my doctor to put me on something that i did not have to remember everyday, had low side effects, and was not an IUD and my doctor told me about the nuva ring.. i was very leary at first mainly due to having no idea about it.. she explained to me it was about the size of a ponytail holder...
...

I do not suggest this birth control at all, it really messed me up! I switched to nuvaring because I am not very good at taking a pill at the same time everyday. But after about 2 months I had to take it out and go back to loestrin 24 (very good birth control!) Nuvaring made me very depressed. I am a usually happy, social college student and nuvaring made me reclusive and sad all the time. I sat in my dorm room all day doing nothing. I would call my friend and start crying for no reason at all. I haven't felt the same since.
...

I take a lot of pills for a condition I have. I absolutely hate it when I have to add yet another pill. So, I loves me my NuvaRing! When inserting, it's supposed to be near the cervix, but it can migrate anywhere and it still works. I can't feel it. My husband can, but it doesn't bother him. It's never come out as a result of sex. I've never gained weight on it.

I have forgotten to take it out once and left it in a week too long. No problems. That's the only thing for me. It's easy to forget it. Every ring comes with stickers you can put on your calendar to remind you when to take it out and put it back in. As long as you look at your calendar, you should be OK! :) But it's such an easy form of birth control! Just remember once a month and you are set! Good for the lazy set! (me)

I've been on many different types of pills and the only one that didn't have a side effect was Micronor, the pill for breast-feeding mothers. You need to take that at exactly the same time every day. It's...
...

I would not recommend the Nuva Ring birth control to anyone. My husband and I were looking for something different and easy. Something that I would not have to remember every day and something that would obviously keep me from concieving. The doctor insured me that this was indeed the birth control for me. So, the things I did not like about it... Let's start with the fact that I had trouble getting it to stay in. No matter how far I seemed to push it up, it was constantly slipping out. I would be doing normal every day business and I would feel it slipping out. It was very unconfortable. I also had trouble with my period on it. My doctor informed me, after calling and complaining to him, that if I would give it a few months, my periods would become light and regular again. After bleeding for two straight months worse than I ever had before, I had to find something else. It was rediculous. All I know is I wouldn't recommend it to my worst enemy!
...

I am the type of person who forgets to take pills so Levora wasn't working for me. I decided to try the "Nuva Ring". At first it was good an I couldn't even tell I had inserted it!! During the 2nd month of usage I began experiencing, cramping, hemmoraging, a rash in my genital area, nausea and mood swings.

I had a "less than perfect track record for remembering the pill everyday". I love only having to remember to take out and insert a ring once a month!

Previous to taking the Nuvaring, I had been taking Orthotricyclen-lo for about 3 years. Would usually breakout (mild) within a week of taking the sugar pills (within a week of starting my period). With Nuvaring I haven't broken out once! woo hoo!

UPDATE:

I believe Nuvaring may have made me emotional/depressed for a few days during months 2,3, and 4. Seems to have gone away now (on month 6). The reason I am not sure if Nuvaring caused this is because it was also a rough semester and wasn't getting much sleep or exercise time in.
...
