With 7 cats and 2 dogs in the house at the moment, a flea issue can quickly spiral out of control into a major problem... which is exactly what has happened. Once the weather became officially wintry and cold, everyone started furiously scratching (despite being on Frontline). I quickly ordered a different brand of flea preventative and also 2 boxes of Capstar to try to get the problem under control as soon as possible.

Capstar is a flea-killing little tablet that promises that it will start killing adult fleas within 30 minutes of giving it to your cat or dog. It is safe to use in cats, kittens, dogs, and puppies that are at least 4 weeks old and weigh 2 pounds. That is very cool because most topical flea preventatives cannot be used on kittens and puppies until they are 8-12 weeks old. Capstar can be safely given to pets daily as long as there is a continuing flea issue.

As soon as the boxes of Capstar arrived on my doorstep, I started giving the pills to both the cats and dogs...

This product is the easiest, cheapest and safest way to prevent fleas. It can be added to food to make it easier to administer, rather than trying to push a pill down your pet's throat or putting a gel on their skin that can get messy and can irritate the skin. Topical products can be toxic as well. Capstar is pretty cheap, especially if you have multiple cats like me and my boyfriend. We've discovered that we can buy the dog-sized pill, cut it into the appropriate dosage size, and give it to our cats. We haven't had any fleas in the house since we've been using this product. You can get it at your vet's office without a prescription.

Capstar is one of the best flea medications around. It is somewhat new compared to the more known brands. It has many advantages, and also disadvantages.
Positive: Kills fleas in about a half hour. You can actually SEE the fleas fall off dead. It works without fail. You do, of course, need to vacuum your whole house..EVERYTHING to get rid of all the eggs. This includes all shades, curtains, pillowcases..everything. This product is also safe to use with other flea medicine. You can still use your frontline, Advantage..whatever you use. You can also use it once a day for a week if you keep seeing fleas, where frontline and the such is once a month..no exceptions. Now the Negatives.
Negatives: This product only kills ADULT fleas. Any babies, eggs, etc will not be touched by this medicine. This is why it is recommended to use frontline with it, since frontline kills the whole life cycle of the flea. This also does nothing for Ticks. Again, frontline kills fleas and ticks. Our pet's are our kids and we love them dearly. I live in a rural area which had a lot of fleas
outdoors this year. My playful and fiesty scottish terrier loved to romp around in the yard and
than he would come indoors to tease our two cats. The poor little fellow got a bad case of the
fleas and infected the cats also. I went to the pet store and bought Capstar Blue because it
could be used for both the dog and the cats. You just disguise the pill in their food. Within a
few days...they were no longer itching but back to their normal selves. Do I recommend...You
betcha!
