EMBARKATION - Getting on the ship was easy but disorganized. Passengers are required to fill our a short health questionnaire. NCL seems really serious about confining the norovirus and keeping their passengers safe and healthy. They even squirt down your hands with sanitizer before you get onboard. At the gangway, crew members greeted everyone with a complimentary glass of champagne or a mimosa. There was no assistance in finding your cabin.

CABIN - Our balcony cabin was on the small side and never felt very clean. It was more cramped than other ships I've sailed on. The bathroom was especially tight. The shower is set up like a standard walk-in shower and was roomy, but the toilet has its own little separate area with a sliding door. This doorway makes access very, very tight. In fact, if you are a large person, I would recommend booking a handicapped accessible room because if you were too plump or tall, there is no way you could fit through that door to get to the toilet. I'm not the...
...

I took an Alaskan cruise on the Norweigan Star in June 2007. This was a great cruise for a great price. The cruise lasted 7 days and we flew in to Seattle the day before and stayed an extra day on the end of the trip. I would highly recommend that approach. It allowed us to have a no stress entry to the ship on cruise day and allowed for Seattle sight seeing as well. We did the tourist tours via a Greyhound tour and also did a boat tour.

The cruise itself was fantastic. This was our first cruise (wife and I) and we had an oceanview room On this curie that is a requirement. We had a great time viewing the sights from our cabin as we prepared for dinner or embark for a day trip in port. We stopped in Ketchikan, Juneau, Skagway, Prince Rupert. We got up close and personal views of the inside passage and took some exciting pictures. We took a train while in Skagway that I would highly recommend and also did a glacier tour in Juneau.

I took the Norwegien Star to Alaska from Seattle. I was happy that NCL offered a Saturday to Saturday cruise as I live in New York and the travel time to get across the country is 6-8 hours, plus then the 3 hour time difference.

The boat was beautiful, all of the same places as on the Dawn - so on a boat that big it's nice to already know the names of places and what they are about from having been on another NLC boat.

One difference that was both a pro and a con was that you had to pay for the use of the spa. OK, the obvious con - 20 bucks per day of use or 140 for the entire cruise if you join as a couple. I went with my best friend and they let us use this deal even though we weren't a "couple". The pro to this was it was a much more exclusive "club." No kids of course, but it seemed to be only serious spa goers that were willing to pay the fee so it was a truly relaxing spa experience.

I enjoyed the food at the restaurants. We only went to "non-pay" restaurants and I don't think I...
...

Alaska is beautiful
However, We traveled to Alaska on the Norwegian Star and were very disappointed in every aspect of the ship.
The staterooms are smaller than any other cruise that I have been on, and the bed was the worst bed I have ever been forced to sleep on, and I was in the Navy. None of my traveling party got a full night's sleep for the entire 7 night cruise. But, the stateroom was kept very clean by the staff.
The "Freestyle" dining is just an excuse to charge you for meals that every other cruise line includes in the ticket price. The reservations were a joke, I were never able to get a reservation at "Endless Summer" I even offered to make the reservation for 48 hours from the exact time that I was standing at the reservations desk, but was denied this opportunity. The food at Aqua and Versailles was good, but nothing extraordinary. The Market Cafe had typical sub-par food as expected from a feeding trough. The Blue Lagoon was nice, but the seats are very uncomfortable, comparable......

We just returned from a 7 day cruise to breathtaking Alaska as a gift to my son and god-son for their high school graduation. I concur with others about the food quality - I felt like I was eating fast food or slightly better than what's offered in a school cafeteria. We only dined in the cover charge restaurants twice - Le Bistro and Sushi Bar - both were excellent in quality, presentation and service....what I expected all our dining experiences to be like. However, paying an additional $60 plus tip for one meal is too costly. The staff in the buffet area and Blue Lagoon were so disorganized and confused they could not give decent service. Frequently at the buffet there were long lines as we waited for one staff person to serve up to 6 different items on an individual's plate. The incessant required hand-santizing as one entered or even walked through the Market area was tiring and I still came home with a cold!

Embarking and Disembarking were highly organized though,...
...

The Norwegian Majesty has provided Boston travellers with weekly seasonal runs to Bermuda for a number of years. While Bermuda is an island paradise, the Majesty is an older ship which is beginning to show its age. The staterooms are small, the casino is "smoky", and the entertainment is consistantly invariable. I have made the Boston to Bermuda run eight times on this ship and the entertainment venues never seem to change. Meal service in the dining rooms has always been good but buffet food comes up short. Staterooms are clean and the crew servicing the staterooms have always been friendly and do go out of their way to help. Bathrooms located in the staterooms are closet like. The main theatre, in which much time is spent, has many seats which have obstructed views mostly consisting of poles/pillars which get into the way. Drinks are on the pricey side and the elaborate drinks are, for the most part, weakly made. The ship has two swimming pools, one being for adults. ......

We are always so impressed with all aspects of this cruise line that we put down a deposit for our next cruise while on-board.

Embarkation

Embarkation was very quick and organized. We were greeted with refreshments and friendly service by the check-in staff.

Cabins

The cabin on the Star had everything we needed including a fridge. The stateroom attendant did a great job cleaning our cabin promptly twice a day.

Food

Our first meal was lunch at the buffet. There was a good variety of hot foods and salads the quality of which exceeded my expectations.

The Star has a number of cover charge restaurants. The Italian restaurant is open for dinner only and is free of charge. Both meals we ate there had great food and good service in a quiet environment. The Mexican restaurant Endless Summer is also free of charge.

The Versailles is one of the main dining rooms we ate at twice for breakfast and twice for dinner.

DO NOT GO ON THIS SHIP. MY GRANDMOTHER WAS ON THIS SHIP AND SLIPPED BY THE POOL. THEIR STAFF REFUSED TO OPEN THE MEDICAL CENTER FOR HER. WHEN THEY WERE FINALLY FORCED TO THEY TOLD HER SHE SPRAINED HER ARM (WHEN SHE CLEARLY TOLD THEM IT WAS HER NECK AND NOT HER ARM THAT HURT) AND WOULD NOT TREAT HER ANY FURTHER, THEY LEFT HER FOR OVER 24 HOURS WITH A FRACTURED SPINAL CORD WHEN SHE WAS FINALLY OPERATED ON HER NECK WAS IN HER BACK AND SHE IS NOW ON LIFE SUPPORT AND MAY NOT MAKE IT.

WHEN THE BOAT DOCKED THEY WOULDNT EVEN LET HER OFF THE BOAT THEY TOLD US SHE WAS NOT A PRIORITY. DO NOT TAKE THIS CRUISE LINE FOR YOUR OWN SAFETY. SHE SHOULD HAVE BEEN RUSHED OFF THE BOAT AS SOON AS THE INCIDENT OCCURRED, IF SHE HAD BEEN BROUGHT TO A REAL DOCTOR INSTEAD OF THE FACT DOCTORS ON THEIR BOAT WHO DONT REALIZE THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A BROKEN ARM AND NECK THE DAMAGE WOULD NOT HAVE BEEN AS EXTENSIVE. IF SHE DOES MAKE IT OFF LIFE SUPPORT SHE WILL NEVER BE ABLE TO USE HER ARMS OR HANDS AGAIN.
