Pride of Hawaii was the 3rd Norwegian Cruise that I have been on. We choose this cruise-line for many reasons: flexible schedule, casual attire, accommodating staff, great food, etc. This last cruise however, failed to meet our expectations. The staff was far less professional. The past cruises we have been on we have found the staff to be so accommodating, pleasant, and enjoyable to be around. On the Pride of Hawaii, it was not so. We encountered staff who were just the opposite - rude and unfriendly. We seemed a burden to them. Although we did meet a few staff who were more pleasant, overall, the staff did not come close to meeting our expectations.

The food was still great, the boat was fantastic, it was just the service that was lacking. Sad to say, but is it because it was entirely an American staff??
...

cruiselover1 says "Experienced cruiser, worst I've ever been on!!" about Norwegian Cruise Line - Pride of Hawaii

I've been on several cruises on several different cruise lines. I read all of the reviews about Norwegian American line and the poor service but I didn't listen. Shame on me. While the islands and all of our excursions were great, the cruise experience was extremely disappointing. Freed-style cruising is a joke! No scheduled dinner time, choice of restaurants sounds great. Until you understand how it all works. There are scheduled times to make a restaurant reservation, and half of the restaurants require an additional fee to get into!! If you are a couple or small family, forget eating in the main dining room. You have to have a group of 6 or more to get a reservation. Anything less and you have to show up and hope to get on the wait list. Also, once you got into the restaurants you realized that they were less than half full yet you waited 1-2 hours to get in. We overheard quite a few employees complaining about their jobs and about how many people quit every week and how......

That was the worst trip we ever took. The "cleaning" people were very rude. We asked for ice and were told to get it ourself. Assessing people $10.00 each leaves nothing for the crew to be rpud of. They know they are going to get their tip whether they maintain your room or not. I will not travel Norwegian again....

First of all, we were told that we could eat whenever we wanted--thats simply not true--there are periods were nothing was available. We expected some typical Hawaiian entertainment, we received a fifties night, a disco night-- and a disc jockey who played rap and danced on stage by himself-- his audience at the time was an older crowd who bascially said it was noise. When we went on the excursions--the drivers were expecting tips--one even said that was the way they made a living-- no mention of this anywhere in promotions. Then we found out that the drivers were given a "script" which had them tell you a story which was more of a sales gimmick--then they stopped at the nearest tourist trap which sold that particular item in the story. We also found out that these places were a part of the cruise line-- scratching each other's back.

On our final day we were to visit Pearl Harbor, the day before we were to receive special tags for our luggage as a part of out daily mail. We received...
...

DO NOT GO ON THIS SHIP. MY GRANDMOTHER WAS ON THIS SHIP AND SLIPPED BY THE POOL. THEIR STAFF REFUSED TO OPEN THE MEDICAL CENTER FOR HER. WHEN THEY WERE FINALLY FORCED TO THEY TOLD HER SHE SPRAINED HER ARM (WHEN SHE CLEARLY TOLD THEM IT WAS HER NECK AND NOT HER ARM THAT HURT) AND WOULD NOT TREAT HER ANY FURTHER, THEY LEFT HER FOR OVER 24 HOURS WITH A FRACTURED SPINAL CORD WHEN SHE WAS FINALLY OPERATED ON HER NECK WAS IN HER BACK AND SHE IS NOW ON LIFE SUPPORT AND MAY NOT MAKE IT.

WHEN THE BOAT DOCKED THEY WOULDNT EVEN LET HER OFF THE BOAT THEY TOLD US SHE WAS NOT A PRIORITY. DO NOT TAKE THIS CRUISE LINE FOR YOUR OWN SAFETY. SHE SHOULD HAVE BEEN RUSHED OFF THE BOAT AS SOON AS THE INCIDENT OCCURRED, IF SHE HAD BEEN BROUGHT TO A REAL DOCTOR INSTEAD OF THE FACT DOCTORS ON THEIR BOAT WHO DONT REALIZE THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A BROKEN ARM AND NECK THE DAMAGE WOULD NOT HAVE BEEN AS EXTENSIVE. IF SHE DOES MAKE IT OFF LIFE SUPPORT SHE WILL NEVER BE ABLE TO USE HER ARMS OR HANDS AGAIN.

IF THIS...
...

The cruise was fun, great scenery. We have to reserve for the restaurant the same day or 24hrs before for dinner. The buffet style had a lot of food, but the food wasn't that warm. It could be warmer and sometimes the food is too salty and oily.

The entertainment was good and it was a very big boat. Overall, I enjoyed the cruise and would go on another Hawaii cruise again.
...

My husband and I decided to go on the Pride of Hawai'i for our honeymoon fall of 2007 and we couldn't have been happier with the trip. The service on the ship was OUTSTANDING and the restaurant choices were plentiful. Be prepared to bring A LOT of extra cash for shore excursions. The only downpoint was the cost of photographs taken on the ship. Have fun!!! ...

We went on the cruise for our honeymoon. The cruise was just average. I went on 2 other cruises and with comparison would prefer going on Carnival again over Norwegian. My husband and I had a honeymoon package and they forgot a lot of the amenities, in which we had to remind them. We were suppose to get champagne and strawberries delivered and waiting for our arrival....after daily reminders we got it our 3rd night. On formal night we were suppose to receive hor'dervs and once again we had to remind them. The freestyle dining was definitely different then other cruises. I am an open-minded person, but did not care for the dining. It seemed as though you were always "worried" of where you were going to eat the following night, since you had to have a reservation, starting at 24 hrs. prior. They also had 3 "upper scale" restaurants that you had to pay a cover charge. I feel a cruise is where food should be free! Since it was my husband's 1st time cruising he had nothing...
...
