I sailed on the Norwegian Dawn to the Hawiian Islands. We visited 6 islands in 11 days. The service on the ship was exceptional and anything you wanted was delivered to you within a short span of time. This is a ship that is good for family vacations as well as couples or singles. There is always something to do, you are never bored. The employee's of the ship kept the kids under control whether in the kid's club or at the pool. I have traveled on 6 different ships with 4 diferent cruise lines and I have to say the kids were always busy with something to do on the Dawn. I love the free style cruising where you go to dinner anytime you want. One night we went early becaue we had been on the ship most of the day. The next night we went to late supper because we had been touring all day and wanted to get in a nap before supper. This kind of freedom is awesome. It means you can eat where you want and what time you want. Out of the eleven days we had to wait on 2 days......

My wife and I hvae been cruising since we got married. We are in our mid-30's so this is no senior cruise as we intend to spend some money and see something exciting while also relax and get away. This is my ninth cruise and have experienced Celebrity & Royal Carribean also. We had been on NCL Jewel last year and it was fantastic so we gave NCL another go in August of 2008. We boarded the NCL Dawn at the end of August for a 7-night cruise up eastern shore to Halifax and back, stopping in Boston, Bar Harbor and R.I.

The staff seemed to lack proper training or concerned management.as it was below par. The stateroom was the biggest balcony room you could get before going to a suite. It was small with a TV so tiny and crappy, I was lucky to get CNN. The remote we found when we walked in was wrapped in packing tape to hold it together. The room had a ajoining doot to the next stateroom which we were unaware of when we booked. Since the people next door smoked, it flowed into...
...

NCL versus Royal Caribbean on style formats

My wife and I recently took a seven day cruise on NCL's Dawn cruise ship from New York City to Bermuda and back. We had a great time but we're not sure we would try NCL's "Freestyle" cruising anymore.

With six cruises under our belts on Royal Caribbean, we decided to try NCL because they had a outside cabin for us with 3 weeks prior booking. A last minute decision on our part to celebrate our 45th wedding anniversary. Bermuda is where we honeymooned 45 years ago and hadn't been back since. Bermuda was very nice but we remembered very little about it. We live in New Jersey only 30 minutes from the cruise ship port. That was nice - no air travel necessary.

Dining was our first "Freestyle" experience. The ship had two main dining rooms that opened around 5:30 PM for dinner. You enter a dining room and you are greeted by a host who will direct you to your table. We like to have dinner at around 5:30 PM so we were seated promptly. Others who came...
...

We took the Dawn in Dec 07 and loved freestyle cruising. We were on the cruise and had 24hrs of rough seas due to TS Olga. The food was great. Our cabin was a balcony and we loved being able to sit out on it and relaxe and enjoy the privacy. The entertainment was great. And as always we loved St Thoms and Tortala the snorkling was beautiful....

The entire cruise was fun and exciting. We enjoyed the free style concept, not having to eat on a schedule allowed us to do what we wanted. The entertainment was excellent, I felt like I was watching a Broadway show. The staff was attentive and courteous. I would travel on the Dawn again. I will only travel on NCL!...

me and my hubby went on the Norw. Dawn in 2006 and the whole experience was just awful. I couldn't believe the experience compared to the other one we have been on. Where to start. First, everything was OK until we got on the boat. We got in our stateroom, there was no soap, no shampoo, no robes, and when we asked for some it took them three days to get us 2 freakin robes. First impressions were already bad. Then it just got worse. The entertainment was OK if you could get into the areas they were having them in. There are oveer 2,000 passengers and a room for 25-30 people is where they were holding some popular events. There was nothing to do until 5 unless you wanted to go to excersize classes and Bingo all day. Toward the last day when you are to get your alcohol that you bought, there was an actual line that they had you stand in to get it. We stood for 2 hours in line for some booze we decided to buy on board. Bad move. The only reason the line was so long......

Norwegian Cruise line leaves a bit to be desired. The service is terrible. We had to ask six times just to get soap in our shower. Bar service in minimal. Most of the time we had to get our own drinks. And after what we paid to take the cruise, now they want to charge me for dinner every night. I would recommend any other cruise line before Norwegian....

The crusie to Alaska was so enjoyable along the inter passage. I travel most just in the states. I've seen most of the western states. Everyone should see the Grand Canyon, Yellowstone, and Alaska. We have a great country and you will then see why so many people come from all the world to see these great treasures we have here. On the cruise we got so cold went viewing the glacier we went down to dinner right by the windows and ate dinner and didn't miss any view. What a wonderful time that was....

Easily the worst cruise I have ever been on! The ship is gorgeous and the compliments end there. The staff gets by with providing the absolute basic minimum service. Activities are almost non-existent. 5 premium pay restaurants but only 2 sit down choices for those who didn't want to pay extra to eat. Overpriced in every way. The crew almost seemed to feel sorry for us on the trip. They told us that they are only doing what Norwegian Cruise line tells them to do.

List of gripes:

$25 per 8x10 photo(and they took plenty!)

$10 for a drink and they had the nerve to add an auto-gratuity on top!

$75 bingo for those who can afford to cheat and win with the automatic play machine.

Overpriced snorkeling/shore excursions that they sell you when they know that the weather forecast is 60 degrees and cloudy at your destination (no refunds 48 hrs before your tour.)

No Midnight buffet.

Lobster night was never advertised.

Just returned for 7 day ny to bermuda trip. 2nd time cruising with ncl last year was on the Spirit had at GREAT experience!! The Dawn however was like ruising with a whole other cruise line one that you might want your worst enemy on for that would truely be sweet revenge!! Staff and Crew RUDE< Distant and basically uncaring. There were 10 of us in our party 4 cabins all on the 10 deck room size was ok , house cleaning seemed to pick and choose what room they would clean and when had to constantly ask for towels they removed out pool towels and never returned them. 1st day found bed bugs had to have an exterminator come in room door lock broke and was repaired at least 3 times during the 7 dayssafe lock also not working. If you had allergey your were screwed DUST in the room piled high, I think all they do after each crusie is change the linens ans spray the bathroom. Buffet HORRIBLE, Venician and Aqua food was ok but they share the same exact menu so really whats the point?

DO NOT GO ON THIS SHIP. MY GRANDMOTHER WAS ON THIS SHIP AND SLIPPED BY THE POOL. THEIR STAFF REFUSED TO OPEN THE MEDICAL CENTER FOR HER. WHEN THEY WERE FINALLY FORCED TO THEY TOLD HER SHE SPRAINED HER ARM (WHEN SHE CLEARLY TOLD THEM IT WAS HER NECK AND NOT HER ARM THAT HURT) AND WOULD NOT TREAT HER ANY FURTHER, THEY LEFT HER FOR OVER 24 HOURS WITH A FRACTURED SPINAL CORD WHEN SHE WAS FINALLY OPERATED ON HER NECK WAS IN HER BACK AND SHE IS NOW ON LIFE SUPPORT AND MAY NOT MAKE IT.

WHEN THE BOAT DOCKED THEY WOULDNT EVEN LET HER OFF THE BOAT THEY TOLD US SHE WAS NOT A PRIORITY. DO NOT TAKE THIS CRUISE LINE FOR YOUR OWN SAFETY. SHE SHOULD HAVE BEEN RUSHED OFF THE BOAT AS SOON AS THE INCIDENT OCCURRED, IF SHE HAD BEEN BROUGHT TO A REAL DOCTOR INSTEAD OF THE FACT DOCTORS ON THEIR BOAT WHO DONT REALIZE THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A BROKEN ARM AND NECK THE DAMAGE WOULD NOT HAVE BEEN AS EXTENSIVE. IF SHE DOES MAKE IT OFF LIFE SUPPORT SHE WILL NEVER BE ABLE TO USE HER ARMS OR HANDS AGAIN.
