I had been checking out many different SLR cameras for a year as I really wanted a camera that took amazing professional grade photos. My point and shoot was not doing it. After months of checking out each camera, I had my heart set on the Canon Rebel XTi......that is until I tried the Nikon D80.

My husband bought the Nikon D80 second hand for me to cheer me up after getting laid off from my previous job earlier this year. I am so glad he did. This camera takes some seriously amazing pictures!!!!

The body of the Nikon D80 is pretty solid. The hand grip is a bit rubbery and gives a good grip to hold onto. The weight is a little heavy for some, but I feel the added weight helps me to find a good balance. This camera came with a Nikon Nikor AF 18-135 mm lens. There are manual settings where you can set the shooting mode for a customized setting or you can use any of the point and shoot settings for those who want the convience of a point and shoot with SLR quality. There is a extensive...
...

What i really admired about nikon is that you can use your older AF lenses on the N80 without losing TTL. this baby can be used as a "point and shoot idiot" or all manual pro camera..getting older and not having pinpoint eyesight anymore ..i love and depend on the AF..i have had nikons for about the last 30 years and never had a problem that could not be fixed..not bad for a former diehard minolta user
...

This has been by far my best investment. I am a professional photographer but I haven't always been. i haven't done any schooling or taken any classes on the subject. I'm all self taught and I taught myself with this camera. I started out knowing how to take pictures just with the automatic settings but have since learned how to use the manual. You don't have to be a professional photographer to use one of these cameras. They are easy to use and if you get frustrated just turn to the manual and it explains everything in easy lamens terms. There are many different accessories that you can get to make your photography experience more enhanced but without them they still turn out great! The best way to figure the camera out is just by trial and error. The best thing about digital cameras is you don't have to pay for the film. It's FREE! So, you can take as many pictures as you want and you're not out anything. You can delete as many pictures as you want too. Search...
...

The Nikon D80 is a step in the right direction for the Semi-proffessional that does not want to go to the expense of the professional Nikon 200.

Some of the key features of the Nikon D80 are 10.2 magapixel DX format CCD,11-area AF system, 3D Color Matris Metering II, 420 pixel segnsor, Image processing engine, custom Auto ISO and long exposure noise reduction, larer, brighter pentaprism viewfinder, mechanical only shutter, support for SD-HC, in-camer retouching, wireless flash intergration, multile-exposures, Higher capacity EN-EL3e battery.

The Nikon D80 is a good step above the previous D50 and D70. The images with Nikon lenses are great too, with less noise, better default sharpening, and good resolution. The camer is easy to learn and takes great photos. If you are concerned about cost/price, the nikon D89 is a little more costly but taking in consideration of the new and better improvements that Nikon has added to the D80, in my opinion it is well worth the extra money. If you want...
...

I have had this camera for just over 2 years and I just can't get enough of it. I bought it to take pictures of everything and I can do that. From my new grandchildren, to pictures out of a plane, my son's rugby games and on a voyage to Alaska and its wonderous scenery it takes it all with ease.

Obviously some pictures are easier to take than others; such as the grandchildren because they are just there. But taking action photos of my son's rugby games has been a joy not only for our family but for the whole team. I can just point and click away at the action and then bring the camera home to download the 500 or more pictures. I edit them and get in for the great close ups and bam the guys have great memories of their rugby games which they can share with their family who were unable to attend the games.

The camera offers manual and automatic settings, so no matter what your camera skill you can take great pictures. For the rugby photos I choose the automatic setting for the...
...

The Nikon D80 is a great SLR digital camera, that beginners or experienced photographers would find user friendly. A benefit to this camera is the manual focus feature. For the experienced photographers it gives them the option to use manual focus while it is still possible to use automatic focus. There are many settings on the camera that the experienced user and non experienced will find useful. On one side of the camera there is room for holding the camera without your hands getting in the way of your viewfinder. The viewfinder is also a great assest. Most if not all point and shoots do not use a viewfinder. A viewfinder is something that many photographers prefer novice and experienced alike. Also the LCD screen is a decent size. While not overpowering the back of the camera it takes up enough room so as to have a nice review of your image. Also after you take your photo the image shows up immediately on the screen. This is also something that can be adjusted and changed so that...
...

I use to have and use the Nikon D1X. The Nikon D1X was a high end camera for it's time. The Nikon D80 makes this camera seem like it's an awkward boat anchor hanging around your neck. I purchased the Nikon D80 when the Nikon D90s were coming out and I got a great deal on the camera body. the body is light weight and It has a higher ISO settings than the Nikon D1X. The Nikon D1X went to 800, the Nikon D80 goes over 1000. It's just as easy to shoot manually with the Nikon D80 as it is with the Nikon D1X. My only issue is shooting RAW with the Nikon D1X because Photoshop CS2 can't read the type of NEF files it shoots. I was hesitant when I found it shoots and writes pictures on an SD card. I enjoyed the big flash cards the Nikon D1X used but after awhile you get use to it. All my lenses I used with the Nikon D1X are compatible with the Nikon D80. My Nikon d1X. The camera shoots faster and you can find how to DVD at National Camera and Exchange on how to use it.
...

The Nikon D80 is a great camera for people who feel limited by the point and shoot cameras out there today. I think having some photography experience is helpful, but even if not you can just set the camera on the automatic settings and get some great shots! I love mine! Get a decent zoom if you can, not neccessarily a Nikor brand since they're so expensive, I got a Sigma for mine, and your camera will be even more versatile. I originally bought this because I had a Nikon 35mm SLR already, and I wanted to use my other Nikon lenses with it, but since getting the Sigma 18-200 zoom lens I find I never need to change the lens anyway! Make sure you get a filter to protect the end of your lens from scratches and damage, too. One negative thing about this camera is that it takes a special Nikon battery, so if you're on vacation and the battery runs low you'd better have brought the charger for it, because you can't just run out and buy a new battery!
...

I absolutely love the Nikon D80! When I bought this camera back in fall 2007, I really wanted a more expensive camera, such as the D200 (or, now, D300) but couldn't justify the cost since I hadn't been taking shots (at this level) for years. My old film SLR was a dusty bookend up on the shelf. I didn't want too much camera with complicated esoteric menus and features that I would never use, but I DID want something that could take professional looking shots that I could use in my artistic/promotional work. After spending way too much time reading every review, I decided that the D80 (then, in 2007, around $900 without lens) would "have to do." It did more than just do. It became a tool that catapulted me into semi-pro work with little learning curve.

Ease: As someone who hadn't picked up an SLR in a few years and who is allergic to instruction manuals, this camera was simple to jump in and figure out. Sure, there are features that I haven't used because it requires an entire...
...

I currently own a Nikon d80 and let me tell you, it is a fantastic camera! I had previously owned a nikon F100- film camera and decided to switch over to digital. Wow what a great camera it is. The photos are truly beautiful. They are of professional quality. The camera is well made and sturdy. I have 4 different lenses, and the ease of changing them out is unbelievable. It has a nice view back screen, a easy to use menu. This camera will also shoot in RAW mode. I am not too familiar with this mode yet- as I am still learning- but I understand that this is a great plus. Nikons quality is what makes it the number one camera around. I have owned cannons in the past- and although they are also great cameras, they are not Nikons.

I have recommended this camera to my family and freinds- of which 3 have also purchased the same camera and love it. Even someone like me, who is still learning can pick up this camera, and with very little knowledge be able to take professional looking photos.
...

I love my Nikon D80. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because it's not a top of the line camera. I'd love to work my way up to the Nikon D3X, but it imagine it will be a while before I ready to spend that kind of money on a great camera. Nikon has been a trusted name in photography in my family for many years, so when we decided to open our own small photography business, I knew I would be using a Nikon SLR camera. I chose the D80 for it's many features and ease of use. For me there has been a bit of a learning curve with the SLR technology, but it brings me back to the old days with film and setting up each shot perfectly only today we can take 1000 pictures or more to get the few perfect shots we photographers really want. As a mom with young children, I am lucky to find myself in fun photo ops daily and with the Nikon D80, my pictures are crisp and clear and fun for everyone to enjoy.
...
