We purchased this camera a while back, It has been wonderful, it is like having professional pictures done. We have taken very candid shots of our children and they have come out great, professional quality. The zoom attachment is incredible, we have taken pictures of our children and there friends playing and they had no clue. I was able to print them and frame. We have not been to a professional photographer since we have purchased this Nikon. We are actually thinking about upgrading to the newer model. We were extreamly impressed with it and showed my father in law who loved it and went out and purchased the newer model. Just recently a neighbor asked about it and we highly recommended it to them. When taking pictures of your children or just out taking pictures of scenery it is well worth the price of this camera. I would also recommend purchasing the different attachments like to zoom. I look forward to reading the reviews on the new model. Christmas is around the corner so may have...
...

The Nikon series of cameras, D40-D80, give the eprformance of a lifetime. The optics are the best that one can buy at a retail establishment. It is clearly professional grade. The 15-55 lens does most thigns that I need, but by adding a 300 mm zoom lens I am able to capture magazine quality images of wildlife. The regular lens gives impeccable landscape images. The camera body is shaped for easy holding., This is critical if one is spending 4-5 hours in a photo shoot or waiting for the right momemnt to capture wildlife.
...

The Nikon D70 DSLR is a great camera. I purchased it with the kit lens. The camera is easy to use, takes great photographs, and holds up well even after being dropped (a few times). I have taken wedding photographs, portraits, and I have even photographed birth photos with this camera and have gotten outstanding results a majority of the time. I have had 16x20 prints and higher made from photos taken with this camera. They have turned out beautifully. My only criticism of this camera is that at the higher ISO settings the photos do become grainy, but usually the graininess can be removed later on with advanced editing software or something like "Neat Image" software. The metering is usually pretty accurate on the auto settings, but you will yield much more consistent results if using the manual setting, especially when back lighting is a concern. This camera focuses quickly and efficiently which is important when taking photographs of young children who are always on the...
...

jwmom5 says "Nikon D70 gives the best of digital with the feel of film SLR" about Nikon - D70

I have owned the Nikon D70s for almost two years and have taken well over 12,000 photographs with it. The D70 has an extaordinary battery life, a large variety of both Nikon and non-Nikon lenses.

The D70s allows complete manual control like a traditional 35mm camera, but also offers a wide range of user friendly automatic modes allowing budding photographers to get a feel for the camera.

There is a large variety of accessories available for the D70s including a great Nikon speedlite flash, remote shutter release, off-camera flash bracket, etc.

The body of the camera is sturdy and well constructed, but be advised that it is quite heavy - so keep this in mind and remember your tripod if you will be shooting for long periods of time.

One drawback is that the exposure does tend to be a little dark in automatic mode, not a problem when setting exposure manually. Colors are vibrant and when you master the settings, you cn avoid the heavy grain that is common in digital photography. I have...
...

My husband and I received this camera for Christmas and I LOVE IT! We have 2 very active girls and it's hard to get a picture if your camera is slow. I love the Nikon D70, because not only is the shutter speed fast, but it takes numerous pictures in a matter of seconds, so I can catch candid photos of my girls playing. If I want a posed picture, the camera will allow me to take several pictures while everyone else is getting one shot. The picture is very clear, it self focuses easy, you can get a close shot very quickly with just a turn of the lens in front. I think that even someone who is not overly familiar with digital cameras could come to love and easily use this camera. The only thing that bothers me about the camera is that you have to look through the viewfinder to take the picture (my old digital camera held the shot on the screen, so I could see exactly what my picture would look like when it was taken). My father in law has this camera as well, and he can set it...
...

With perhaps the exception of the battery compartment cover, the D70 is very well built. If you pick up the Digital Rebel and then the D70, you'll notice a huge difference. The Rebel feels light and plasticky, while the D70 has some weight to it, and feels like it can take whatever you throw at it. As you'd expect with an SLR, it's very easy to hold, with a large grip for your right hand (with the lens being the resting spot for your left).
...

My Nikon D70 camera takes really great pictures. The zoom allows for clear pictures from a good distance. Recently on a river boat trip I took pictures of people on shore, and it was like they were next to me. The camera is light and easy to handle. It focuses automatically and provides very clear and crisp pictures. The portrait setting provides excellant closup photos of people. This is my first SLR digital camera, and will not got back to a point and shoot camera, except in a need of a pocket camera.
...
