Attending NYU is an experience that would teach you to not only work hard for your grade, think critically but a university that is set on the most perfect location. It is located in NYC, one of the wealthiest, busiest and the best social networking city you can live in. Opportunities here are great and finding a job to an intern has been the most sufficient and easiest thing for many NYU students, because it is in t he city where they are opportunities for majority of all the people.

NYU is a very good school. It is constantly improving. And it's located in a great city, with plenty of sources of entertainment and inspiration. Nevertheless, it costs way to much to attend. For most people, I believe that all of the benefits I mentioned above are not worth the high cost of tuition and housing. You can get a good liberal arts education at many other schools, including state schools. Aside from its prime location in Manhattan, NYU is not special.

I have benefited immensely from the school's career center, which is well connected with the business community in New York. In addition, NYU offers some great study abroad opportunities.

On the other hand, the community is very impersonal. The level of education and student involvement is depressingly low. It's easy to get lost in the crowd.
...

I'm a freshman at UCLA and already considering great graduate schools that will enable to become successful. When I applied to be an undergraduate, naturally, i applied to NYU. However, i was sadly rejected and hope that next time for graduate i am not. New York is huge and expensive, but I believe New York University provides their students with sufficient resources to make them great....

Throwabug says "Good reputation, but missing some fundamentals." about New York University

NYU takes place in the center of it all - New York City. That gives you a lot of opportunities that you won't have at other schools, such as access to great speakers, conferences and events. In part because of this, NYU has a great reputation that has noticeably improved over the last several years. However, be prepared to pay for these opportunities as NYU certainly is not cheap. Moreover, student support services, particularly IT is notably lacking and you might be frustrated by how "un-automated" seemingly routine functions are. If you're planning on going into a specialized field that NYU has a strong reputation in, definitely put this school on your short list, but if you're not entirely sure what you want do yet, or if it's not a program in which NYU really excels, save your money and go to a public school....

While I was glad for the free toilet paper that university housing gave us poor souls who couldn't afford to buy our own, I thought we deserved at least 2-ply stuff for the tuition we paid. Oh, and free beads during mardi gras in the student center. Woohoo!

The one good thing, though, was that my department chair recommended me for an internship at a publishing company that eventually gave me a scholarship. So I did feel that someone in NYU went out of their way for me.
...

New York University is a very expensive school. I really don't think there is any reason to pay the money for it unless you come for a degree from Tisch or are in the law school. NYU's academic programs are okay, but not worth the price tag. You can get the same or better service elsewhere in New York City. It is a fun place to be though, and if you don't care about money and/or have a lot of it, you'll fit right in with the prissy rich kids who attend....

Jo says "Great program in some areas of Sociology." about New York University

My daughter started a graduate program five years ago at New York University. She was given subsidized housing her first year through a grant. She still had to pay $800 a month rent. The program I am referring to is the Ph.D. program in Sociology. Like many programs she was given free tuition in exchange for being a Teacher's Assistant and/or Researcher. After four years she has finished her course work. Some Graduate Programs have three years of course work. In essence NYU's is a longer haul.
She was given a stipend of $18,000 for five years. This is almost an impossible salary to live on so we helped her. The grant did not allow her to work outside the University.
NYU is ranked in the top 25 for Graduate Programs in Sociology. Its contender was Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia.

She got a much warmer welcome at Emory when she went to interview there. NYU was not warm and fuzzy and has not been. The program is very small- 7 students so making friends was difficult.

With a...
...
