Mount Rushmore is a neat place and a cool monument.

As a park though, it's not large nor impressive, doesn't have a ton of amenities or anything like that, and it's out in the middle of the Dakota nowhere, so it's a pain in the ole rear end to get there considering that you're only going to gawk at the monument for 30 minutes max.

Still pretty cool...
...

Many people have seen Mt Rushmore, but in person it is a completely different experience. It is amazing to walk around the park and see the work that was done. I also really enjoyed the studio that showed pictures and artifacts from the build. Definately reccomended...

I love the National Monument and it is very fascinating to see. The night show was amazng. The park is very clean and well kept. The staff members are very friendly and helpful. But I think it is sad that they take advantage of the motorcycle rider. Especially when so many motorcycle riders visit each year. They charge you the same for a motorcycle as a full car load of people. I am from South Dakota and I am ashamed that they take advantage of the motorcycle rider. During the Sturgis Motorcycle rally that is one thing you hear out of state riders commenting about often. Many do not even go in to see the monument. Maybe if they would take this into consideration, more people would stop in. More would buy souvigners or eat at the park, therefore making more revenue....

I remember going here as a kid. Half the fun was all the driving through the winding roads in the Black Hills to get to the park. Amazing to see and fun to visit the visitor's area and gift shop. Still has the feel of the 50's/60's family fun stop. I hope it never changes....

I went with the extended family to South Dakota this past summer. They arrived three days before my kids and I so they went to Mt. Rushmore and several other places before we got there. Still, I couldn't NOT take the kids to see this amazing national landmark!

When we visited, there was a live band playing in the patio area. There were bikers everywhere- we inadvertantly planned our trip the weekend before the motorcycle rally at Sturgis began! There were a lot of great events happening around SD because of the rally, such as the band we had the chance to see at Mt. Rushmore.

I noticed several of the bikers parked along the entry road to Mt. Rushmore instead of paying the parking and entry fees. I think they were on to something- you can get all the information you could ever ask for just by getting on the internet before you visit. The only downside is that you'll have a slightly more distant view and you won't be able to hike up to the monument. Still, if you're trying to save a few bucks,...
...

I had wanted to visit this Memorial on a previous vacation, but could not justify the lengthy out of the way driving to get to this single attraction. However, I had an event to attend in South Dakota, so we decided since we were so close we had to extend our stay in order to drive over. Yes there was lots of driving in the middle of not too much to look at. But it was an amazing masterpiece. I think it would have been cool to see it lit up at night, but we had gotten there early in the day and didn't feel like hanging around longer. One thing I would recommend, is to actually follow their numerical trail, we went in the reverse order for some reason, and ended up doing alot of uphill stair climbing. We didn't realize it until we were half way around that the other was straight walking! But I would recommend you visiting this site if you are ever in the area....

We took our family vacation to South Dakota last summer. It ranks as one of our best vacations ever! Our kids ranged in age from 15 down to 4 and no one complained or had a bad time. We ended up going to Mount Rushmore 2 times. We were there at opening time one day and did the hike and watched the movie and looked at everything. I think we spent about 3 - 4 hours there. Then we went back to see it in the evening. My daughter who was 4 at the time cracked us all up because she kept pronouncing it Mount Mushmore. There are so many family activities to do in this area of South Dakota. We went to Custer State Park, Crazy Horse Memorial, the Needles, and also to the Badlands. I would highly recommend this to anyone. We had a great time and the kids still talk about visiting Mount Mushmore!...

mount rushmore is in the middle of the back hills.

the best view of the hills is on a motorcycle.

feel and breath the clean air.

mount rushmore is the cornerstone of the hills. feel the patriotism. then spend a week driving in the hills.

go to custer park where you can drive threw 70k buffalo.

needles highway is a awsome drive.

road after road , turn after turn. more beauty. the monument of mount rushmore is free to view, but it costs money to part to see it........go figure..

also go to crazy horse mounment and see the work in progress that is 20 times larger than mount rushmore.

...

I must say this was one of the most awe inspiring trips I have ever been on including my trip to the Grand Canyon years ago. It was awesome seeing them in person because pictures and television doesn't do this sight justice. It is a must see!! My kids are at ages now where they appreciate nature and I am planning a trip to take them to see Mt. Rushmore along with the Grand Canyon next year. I am so excited for them to see this beatuiful creation in the side of a mountain. I want them to know what America stands for and let them learn about our history getting them away from all the terror in today's society. If you're looking for a peaceful getaway then I suggest packing up the family, camping, and hiking gear and taking a week long trip to this beautiful park and enjoy God's beautiful scenery and of course Mt. Rushmore...one of my favorite places in the United States....

I had never been to this part of the country and was ready to see such a remarkable landmark that had only until that point seen on a postcard. I was really astonished by the view and the beautiful park. The entire area was so clean and well maintained. If I could go back today I would. It is a must see attraction at least once in your life....

Jo says "Amazing work but the wrong people were carved!" about Mt. Rushmore National Memorial

To the Point

I really had no idea what to expect and was in awe as we came near this National Memorial because one carved face - that of George Washington - could be seen from a distance. It was a great introduction.

We spent about 4 hours total here and feel we did justice to Mount Rushmore National Memorial. If you have more time and are with children you might want to go to every ranger led talk. We didn’t so 3-4 hours was enough time.

I am so glad we went. I’m not exactly sure why given my politics but I think if nothing else the enormity of the work involved in carving these 4 faces is amazing. I focused more on that than I did the people behind the faces truthfully. Depending on your feelings you will take away various thoughts and emotions.

This is a wonderful destination and one I would highly recommend no matter what your age. Small children will enjoy it though I would say children under 5 will not have any understanding of what they are seeing so bring some toys for...
...
