The Motorola w490 is overall a pretty good phone for the price if you are looking for a basic phone with basic features. The camera takes pretty good pictures but it does not have a flash so the quality diminishes in low light settings. The texting feature is very user friendly. I like that it comes in purple color. One thing I dont like is that if you have too many text messages in the inbox (over 300) it wont let you delete all at once. When you try to do it it will say deleting, please wait, and then it just freezes up and even pushing any of the buttons wont unfreeze it-you cant even turn it off. You have to take the battery out and then but it back in and turn the phone on and then choose delete multiple and delete messages that way until you get down to a couple hundred messages and then you can delete the rest all at once. One problem I am having now is that when I close the phone it will say memory card removed, and then a few seconds later it will say memory card inserted, like...

It's a great phone, the Motorola W490, without being too complicated. It has all the features you need, including games. The camera takes clear pictures. Just aim and shoot. It is bluetooth compatible, and the sound is loud and clear. This is about my sixth cell phone, and so far, it is about the best. It is user friendly and fits nicely in the hand. It also has instant messaging and mobile e-mail to 12 different providers. One of the features I really like is the web access and the games. All in all, it is a great little phone for those who aren't very techy.

We have had two of these phones since October. They have warrentied the batteries a couple times each, and sent us 6 replacement phones in 5 months. They don 't know why variuos parts of the phone die. It is never the same part. Not worth our money and our service provider will not let us undo the upgrade or offer us any thing other then the same phone. We are considering an attorney to get out of our contract. We can't make calls out now and can seldom recieve calls, no texts in or out. The service tech said he has never seen anything like it....

I upgraded to the Motorola - W490 cell phone this summer and have been pleased with its performance in the following months. Even with a 1.3 megapixel camera, the pictures can only be viewed on the phone. The screen size is adequate for viewing messages, taking pictures, which is mainly what i use it for. I have experienced long battery life, even with moderate to high amounts of texting and camera use. Only recently have I experienced trouble with the entire screen changing to white and not being able to access any features. In this case, turning off the phone and turning it back on seems to help. I am hoping this problem does not persist OR get any worse.

For a flip phone, this is a great design! The hot keys (or shortcuts) on the keypad are able to be programmed to be the features you need most often.

I spent my high school years waiting to graduate so I could get that promised cell phone. And I got it! My dad let me choose the color for my Motorola W490 phone; green was my choice. I excitedly learned all the features I could on the ride home.

However, within a few days, I discovered a flaw. My particular phone could not send pictures I took via a multimedia message. Whether the fault lies with Motorola or T-Mobile, I don't know for sure. But I do know this: the headaches I managed to survive while trying to rectify the problem are not something I would wish on anyone. After an hour of over-the-phone tech support and a half-hour at the T-Mobile booth at the mall, my phone still cannot sent picture messages.

If you're feeling really good about life and you think you're strong enough to take on a possible nightmare, buy this phone and the supplementing T-Mobile plan! If you are looking for something more reliable, avoid the Motorola W490 at all costs. My experiences have only been...

I've had the Motorola W490 for just under a year now and have had problems with it twice. I purchased it in Oct 2007. In June 2008 the screen started going. it would be either all white or all black on the internal screen, then after day or so, the external screen starting doing the same thing. the only way I could get it to work was to take the battery out for a couple minutes, then put it back in and turn it on and leave it flipped open. if I closed the flip, the screen wouldn't work the next time I opened it.

after a couple more days the ringtones weren't working properly, the text messages were mixed up, and the phone was overall working so slowly (for me to enter in #'s or texts, playing games, using the calandar, etc)

I called my provider in June and was sent a replacement phone which has started having the same problems now (Sept 2008). I contacted my provider again and they offered to send me ANOTHER of the same phone, so I contacted Motorola directly and I now have to ship the...

The Motorola W490 is a cell phone my usband and I both purchased recently. It is a slim design- good. Color is purple- good. Right size for finding it and not being too bulky- good. fits in my pocket- good. you need to go to the main menu, then recent calls to look up the last person who called you. If people dont' leave a msg- their number disappears quicky. The techy gadgets are not explained well- poor. Camera is pretty cool. We've used the video too- good. The phone can be heard well unless it's in a pocket- like in your purse- then you have to be in the same room to hear your phone. I've missed q uite a few calls this way. A good phone I"d suggest. it wasn't the cheapest one out htere. We actually spent money to buy them even after all the rebates and so forth....

I upgraded to the Motorola W490 when my Razr didn't have enough memory for the Java email client and web access. I LOVE the W490 so much more than I ever did the two models of Razrs that I had before. There are several colors to choose from and it's more compact than the Razr and it fits better in my hand.

The web acess is great and so is the email access. The camera is great and fun for spur of the moment photos.

I highly recommend this phone!

I recently purchased a Motorola V490 and I am satisfied with it for the most part. It does freeze up now and then but it is a pretty good phone. I love that they have a wide variety of colors to chose from. I like the slimmer design too....

I love this phone. I even got my mother, father, brother, sister-in-law, sister, and three friends to get this phone. We all love it! It is very user friendly so that my parents can use it. Perfect size, fun colors...much better than the razor....
