You get what you pay for. This is a cheap unit, for short term use. I had a base unit and 4 satellite handsets. Every single one of the handsets developed contact buttons that stopped working within 6 months of purchase. The warrenty replacement units did the same thing. I would never suggest anyone buy this product. The frustration of having the "5" button or the "answer/send" button not work consistantly is very stressful, and in the case of an emergency, deadly....

When you buy a house phone, rarely do you get excited over the prospect of going to the store to pick one out. Usually you just assume that one phone is as good as the next. With the Motorola E51, that is not the case. The handsets are the perfect size, not too big, not too small, and very solidly built. The caller id screens are large, clear and easy to read with a very nice orange glow. The main base is sturdy, and while the extension bases are small, they are light and seem cheap, though that is not the case. Sound quality through the handsets is fantastic. Crisp and clear, you can easily hear every word of your conversation without static or popping.

There are multiple ringtones as well with these phones, to break up the monotonous ring most of us are used to in a phone, but that seems standard with most new phones these days.

The only problem I have with the phone is that the handsets do not have a tight fit in their respective bases, but that is only nitpicking. Overall a great piece...
...

I have really bad luck with phones. Seems like every year I buy a new cordless phone system because the current system we own goes on the blink or just mysteriously stops working altogether. Our latest phone, the Motorola 5.8 Digital Cordless Phone w/ Answering Machine, MD7161-3, has held up awesomely for a long time and we are very happy with it.

The system includes 3 handsets and answering machine which we got on sale at Target for $88. Normal price was $119. This phone system is absolutely loaded with features. For starters it has three handsets. One goes with the base unit which must be plugged into the phone jack as well as an electrical outlet. The cool thing about the other 2 handsets is that their bases don't need to be plugged into a phone jack. All you need do is plug them into a regular electrical outlet and they work fine. The handsets are smaller than other phones we've owned. They're about 5 inches long, 3 inches wide, and about an inch thick. Very compact, yet...
...
