Mon Ami Gabi has great atmosphere - fancy, but relaxed at the same time. They have excellend seafood, and my boyfriend always loves their steaks. Their skate wing is perfectly seasoned and fills me up perfectly, without going into a food coma. This place is enjoyable in a group or on a date. The drinks are big, but some of their martinis are...average. And everything is worth the money....

Have been to Mon Ami Gabi in Oakbrook, Las Vegas, and Chicago. This one is the best. There is a cute outdoor dining area and it is in a neighborhood so it has a nicer feel to it. Food was great (if bit pricey). Service was a little off the night I went but it was festival time in Chicago and the manager took care of our problem quickly. I love the idea of the wine cart that changes so you can try different types of wine....

roo0524 says "Mon Ami Gabi has a lovely atmosphere, both inside and out." about Mon Ami Gabi - Chicago, IL

My husband and I dined at Mon Ami Gabi in Chicago for the first time last night. We decided to take a table outside since there won't be too many more opportunities to do so this year. We started with the bean and bacon soup and the frisee salad with bacon. Both were delicious - the salad ingredients were balanced perfectly so that no one flavored overpowered the others. The soup had a deep, rich flavor.

For dinner, I had the cavatelli appetizer, which was plenty of food considering the two shared appetizers. The cavatelli was fresh and served with tomatoes, pesto, beans, and mushrooms. With grated parmesan on top, the pasta was both light and flavorful.

My husband order the salmon served with orzo. He was disappointed - the orzo was nothing special in his opinion. He expected more from the dish.

The berry cobbler and tarte tatin were both delicious desserts.

Overall, a nice evening with good food, but a little more imagination in the salmon entree would have been appreciated....
...

I have been to Mon Ami Gabi many times over the years and it rarely disappoints. I highly recommend it if you are up for a nice relaxing dinner with good traditional, but Americanized french cooking.

The location (5 stars) and ambiance (4 stars if alone, 3 stars if with kids)

The restaurant is located right on Lincoln Park, directly across from the Lincoln Park Zoo. The out door seating is very pleasant and I recommend it if you want to enjoy the weather and have a more casual dinner. This worked particularly well for us tonight since we had our three kids with us. Although we have done it in the past, I would not feel great about having three noisy boys dine with us in the main dining room. The inside dining room is a bit more stuffy and populated with people looking for more formality and peace and quiet. Although somewhat sheepishly, we arrived in the restaurants on our bikes, me in shorts, t-shirts and running shoes. Most people are dressed a bit nicer, but I did notice...
...

I used to live in Paris and, at the time, really didn't have much money. So, whenever I went to an upscale Bistro it was a real treat. I have the same feeling when I walk into Mon Ami Gabi in Lincoln Park in Chicago.

I love the atmosphere here as much as I love the food. The relatively dark, deep toned restaurant begs for smoking, even if no one does that anymore. The waiters are dressed very much like French waiters in black pants with an an enormous, draping white apron. And If you can't decide which wine, wine tasting start taking on a pre-dinner event of their own.

The menu is a one page schmorgesborg of salads, meat, a bit of fish, and veggies a la Francaise. If you were ever bent on ordering Green Beans ( Bonjour butter!) or Salade Nicoise, do it here. The French Onion Soup and the mussel ( not too heavy) are really good, as is the Beef Wellington. And for you sweet-tooths out there, FYI: the creme brulee is a love story that will bring you to tears.

Mostly I just love...
...
