Vista is a good operating system. You've heard the rumors that it's a downgrade from XP. It runs as good as XP, the interface is clean, and fairly intuitive. The only problem I have with Vista is the fact that unlike XP, you cannot do a complete re-install. Yes, you can use restore points, but this is not nearly as efficient for those of us who understand the difference. I suppose Microsoft wanted to move away from this option, for their own selfish reasons. Just one more reason to clone yourself a copy of XP, or grab one on the bootleg market - sorry.
...

CoriRenee says "My laptop with VISTA has become a frien-emy" about Microsoft Vista Home Premium

I've had desktops and laptops for YEARS Some with Windows 98 - Some with ME - Some wtih XP - ALL of which were totally capable of adjusting to, and worked great minus a couple quirks specific to that OS..

NOT VISTA!!! IS SUCKS!!!! I absolutely HATE IT and am so sick of seeing that little spinny "wait" symbol and "NOT RESPONDING" errors that I actually look forward to coming to my office to use my Desktop with ME over my BRAND NEW IMB with Vista!!

I am sooooo getting Windows 7 asap!!!!
...

This operating system might only be rivaled in atrocity by Windows 2000-- the reason I ditched my PC in favor of a Mac. I'm back to a PC again as I need it for graduate school and Windows Vista is quite possibly an invention of the devil. It takes forever for the computer to do almost anything which is quite a shame considering that I spent a ton of money ensuring that I have a fast processor and an adequate amount of RAM.

This OS is extremely frustrating and I am waiting to get my version of Windows 7. Hopefully this will solve the problem, but until then, everything I do on my computer is beyond annoying.
...

I had to get a new computer with Vista on it for my college classes to learn Vista. I have had nothing but problems with it. It freezes up. Takes for ever to load a web page, is not compatible with so much software. I think Microsoft needed to work the bugs out of this before it was ever released. As soon as I am done with my Vista class I am going to unistall Vista and go to Windows XP. This has to be the slowest operating system!. I know its not the computer I even had the geek squad look at it and verified me suspisions of it being Vista. Next time they release an operating system I hope they make sure it works first.
...

vaughn58 says "Windows, if it aint broke, don't fix it, why vista why??????????" about Microsoft Vista Home Premium

In the past I have used several of the Windows programs, such as Windows 95,98, 2000, and even XP, none with any great problems, they're all a little different but all compatible. I had to purchase a new computer for my home and unfortunately, you guessed it, it came with the Vista Home Premium Edition already installed on it. Now, none of my prior software programs work with vista, and if you're communicating with another program or website that does not run vista then you're SOL. It freezes up on you, this is the 2nd time I'm writing this review because my computer just froze up in the middle of it. Its a pain to use, also annoying, have to be asked constantly for permission to do the simplist jobs. I've never had this many problems with a program before. I consulted a computer GEEK and he told me that for $50 he can take that crap off my computer and install Windows XP for me, I really think that that's what I'm going to do. It will be cheaper to pay the $50 than to have...
...

Vista was on my laptop when I bought the system and I wish it wasn't. It is incompatable with my printer and various applications that I own. I do not see that it is superior in any way and I am often frustrated when I find it will not work with an application and that I cannot use my good printer with it as they are not compatable.
...

i really was unsure of how vista worked and i had heard alot of not so good things about it. the day i got it i was surprized about how easy it was to use. i really love the sidebar gadgets... i love having the post its weather canlander and clock there. vista is a user friendly system... i really dont think i would want to go back to windows 98 now. even after how i was sure i wanted to stay with it always. with vista they did change some things but they are easy to find... like the add/remove programs is now called programs and features... but with help it was easy to find. vista is not bad as others said... i really enjoy it.
...

While it did take me a while to appreciate Microsoft Vista Home Premium, I have to say that I love it now and can't imagine life without it (haha). I haven't heard the best reviews from the computer savvy but for a casual user, like me, it is great. I love the appearance and the easy navigation. When I bought my computer (Feb 07) I wasn't even aware that there was a new operating system out for Microsoft so I was suprised when I turned on my computer and a little frustrated, being that I was used to XP. But really, whether you like it or not, if you don't upgrade you won't be able to play all of the awesome games that are coming out and you wont be getting the updates anymore. Yeah, there are a lot of games that aren't compatible but they are outdated! Get with the times! I feel like I am ahead of the game and I think the graphics are freaking awesome. I love Vista.
...

I have been using this system for more than 7 months and find it to be over priced, over hyped, and an all around bad piece of softwre. it crashes almost every time I use it and does not seem to be compatible with other Microsoft software ie: internet explorer! I had to download patches to make it work. I would still be using XP if the computer companies had not forced this software on us by selling new laptops without the option to pick operating systems....

kevin says "I don't find Windows Vista all that bad OR all that good" about Microsoft Vista Home Premium

As a long time daily Mac user, I'm always dismayed when the hot new video game is released for PC only. Such is the case with the latest MMO, Warhammer Online so I updated my gaming rig to a Dell XPS desktop with Windows Vista installed.

After using Vista for three weeks, I don't really understand why you hear so much negative feedback about it. To my-non-PC-using eye, it's not much different than Windows XP, albeit with a prettier skin. The experience seems no more (or less!) frustrating than my past usage of Windows. All of the normal Windows administration functions that I tend to use are were I expect them to be. Usability hasn't been degraded, nor does it seem to be improved much.

All and all, Vista seems like Windows always has to me. I find it frustrating at times, but it's there and it gets the job done. I don't love it; I don't hate it. Maybe that in and of itself is a condemnation considering how much Microsoft spend to develop and market Windows Vista....

I bought a new Dell and it came with Windows Vista and is it ever a pain!!! Every single action you try to do must be confirmed and approved and THAT is quite time consuming; most of my other Windows programs won't work with it; I can't download updates from the windows.com website because it doesn't recognize me as the Administrator even though I AM and I am signed on as such; this computer is loaded with twice as much RAM, etc. as my other computer that had Windows XP Home on it and my other computer (a Gateway) was almost twice as fast even though it was heavily loaded down with pictures and programs and is 4 years old!!!

Take my word for it..........DON"T DO VISTA!!!!!

...

I've been having Vista Home Edition OS that came loaded on my laptop. I really enjoyed all the new graphics and features it came with, having been tortured by Windows 98, ME, 2000 and XP.

However, there is always this problem with updating Time and Date. No matter how I tried updating them, there is always this time lag that will happen few minutes later. So, the actual hour is 10:00, but the one on the PC is showing 09:38?

I think it's a bug that they haven't been able to fix yet.
...

The operating system is generally improvement. The user interface is nicer in its aesthetics and ease to use.

But!

I don't know what the issue is but there is major compatibility and and programming issues. The most frequent problem is the random blue screen and restart. My computer is not as bad as others were. My problems were predictable. I would just never completely shut it down unless I had to because on restart it would blue screen 2-3 times before it would load. Another person I know tried to run the OS with AOL and apparently they are not too compatible because it randomly restarts usually when he tries to open a web page. He cannot be online for 2 minutes with out it crashing.

It was released to the market too quickly and was not tested enough for bugs and capability so I would steer away from it if possible....
