I upgraded to IE8 almost as soon as it became available. It's an improvement over IE 7, with more features and just as fast and efficient.

I like the look of IE8 - it's attractive and elegant. I really apprecaite its privacy features. You can set it to automatically delete your web history when you close your browser an you can also open an "in private" window where none of your history is stored. This is useful for people who are serious about online privacy. Also, IE8 makes it easy to return to your favorite sites. When you start typing a URL into the address bar, your most often visited sites come up first instead of all the sites you've visited in one big list like IE 7 did. I also appreciated that when IE8 crashed it offered to restore my tabs. Finally, IE8 can recommend sites to you based on your past browsing habits. I haven't really tried this feature yet but it seems different from anything that other browsers offer.

IE8 is the best version of IE yet. It has a variety of options...
...

TheBard says "Still Some Bugs, May Not Be Worth The Upgrade" about Microsoft Internet Explorer 8

Bottom-Line: Frankly, I can take or leave this version of Internet Explorer.

I remember Microsoft's first iteration of Internet Explorer released in the mid-1990's; the interface was clunky, slow, ugly, and not very user friendly. That earlier release was based upon the Mosaic web browser developed at the National Center for Supercomputing Applications' (NCSA) at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

Earlier this year Microsoft released the newest version of its (free) Internet browser, Internet Explorer (I.E.) 8.0 after almost a year of Beta testing. This new version, which has been released for Windows XP (SP2), Windows XP Professional x64 Edition, and Windows 2003 (SP1), Windows Vista, and Windows 7 is not better than the one it is replacing: IE 7.0. While I.E. 7.0 finally brought tabbed browsing and word processor like printing to Internet Explorer, I.E. 8.0 ushered in nothing radical, or practically noteworthy.

My Viewpoint

I had been Beta testing I.E. 8.0 since...
...

Now when I first got the notice to update my browser from Microsoft Internet Explorer 7 to 8 I was like cool they have a new version of the browser, what are they adding or changing now. But now that I've had it for a couple of days, its been a headache. The new Explorer 8 is always crashing. Tabs are always closing or having errors and I have to seend to microsoft and then automatically reload on their own. It's frustrating. It seems slower. Some pages don't always connect when I put the address in the address box. So thats the defaults but soem of the cons are I like the different colors that show when you open different tabs. I like the options it gives you when you open new tabs, the extra security and privacy it gives
...

AnnaBanana says "They had to coax me but it was worth it!" about Microsoft Internet Explorer 8

For several weeks, the folks at Yahoo had been offering me a chance to move on up the road to the Microsoft Internet Explorer 8. Alas, as someone who is admittedly not much of a "techie", I will admit that I tend to settle into a comfort zone and stay there. If it had been up to only people like me, we may well be getting around in horses and carriages to this very day. It goes without saying that I put up a resistance at first but after the offering turned into active coaxing on behalf of Yahoo (and I began to read glowing reviews of Explorer 8 in ViewPoints), I decided to give it a shot. I'm glad I did.

There are so many sophisticated advantages to this new browser version that I have not even begun to appreciate or even notice all of them yet. One that "hooked" me right away was the great URL history feature. Have you ever noticed how frustrating it is to not quite remember a URL name and so not be able to call it up? With Microsoft Internet Explorer 8, even if you...
...

stef42678 says "Upgraded Browser" about Microsoft Internet Explorer 8

I use the internet everyday, so I really rely on my Internet Explorer. When I heard there was an upgrade to Internet Explorer 8, I had to try it. The installation process was so simple. I just went to the Windows website and it downloaded fast. I have the Vista on my computer and it updated automatically to the new settings when I restarted the computer. I like the new browser because it has a few upgrades, such as being able to restore the pages you were on if it accidentally closes, you can view sites the browser thinks you will like and upgraded security and safety precautions. You can still store your favorites and customize your toolbar to have everything at your fingertips. I didn't notice anything bad about the new browser accept that some websites don't support it yet, so you might want to hold off on installing it because you won't be able to access some sites. This is a great upgrade to Internet Explorer 7 and is really easy to use.
...

OldHippie says "A Step Above Internet Explorer 7" about Microsoft Internet Explorer 8

Just when you think Microsoft no longer listens and/or cares about those of us with Windows XP...they surprise us with Internet Explorer 8. It's not THAT much different from Internet Explorer 7, but you can customize it a lot more than the old browser.

I chose to keep things pretty much as they were before. But, you can make changes anytime you want. There is one new tab I like in particular. The "Safety" tab allows a person to report an unsafe site. Just drop down on the "Safety" tab, then choose "SmartScreen Filter" then "Report Unsafe Website".

Another safety feature... You can set it up to automatically delete all browsing history & cookies when you close. Under "Tools" drop down to "Internet Options" then check "Delete browsing history on exit". Click "Apply" and "OK". This is very helpful if you do any on-line banking and/or Internet shopping using a credit card.

Hey...if you're going to be on the Internet, you may as well stay up-to-date!
...
