Discovered this magazine last year at Borders. Picked up an issue and read it cover to cover. Picked up the next issue and did the same. I decided to subscribe because I'm getting rid of the Glamour and US Weekly magazines for something with a different perspective. I just resubscribed for another year....

Mental Floss has been coming to my home for over 2 years, first as a gift (makes a great one!) and then a renewal. If you are a person who enjoys knowing a little or a lot about a lot of different things, this magazine will appeal to you. Along with all the knowledge is a entertaining writing style and fun layout. What I most enjoy seeing is the whole sections devoted to one topic, such as foreign countries. I know my knowledge about most places outside the U.S. is lacking, and it's wonderful to have a quick tour of other places. I also really enjoy the six degrees of Ken Jennings where someone sends in two seemingly unrelated topics and the Jeopardy champion connects them. If only this were a monthly magazine, there would be much happiness in this house. A fun trivia fact is that Albert Einstein is on the cover somewhere of each issue, like Where's Waldo for grown-ups....

Cosci says "Intelligent and Clever -- Never a Dull Issue" about Mental Floss

Bottom Line -- Mental Floss is an interesting magazine filled with fascinating trivia and great articles. And while the topics can range from intellectual to historical, the writers find a way to stay factual without being boring. The articles are written very tongue-in-cheek, so they're simultaneously thought-provoking and fun to read.

Every issue starts out with a section of article bites called Scatterbrained. It's a collection of facts and anecdotes cleverly divided into categories within a uniting theme. For example, a recent issue had a section called "Food for Thought." Within it were articles on the use of pigs in science ("Pigging Out"), odd inventions ("Best Things Since Sliced Bread") and confusing biblical rules ("Is That Kosher?").

Then it's on to the featured articles with topics that touch on practically every facet of human interest: history, art, sports, pop culture, literature, science... you name it. And even if a subject isn't exactly up your alley, the articles...
...

Everybody in my family enjoys this magazine despite the fact that we have diverse interests: I love literature and trivia, my son is into science and history, and my husgand is into classical music and literature. We all find many things to enjoy in each issue. Best of all, Mental Floss has a sense of humor about everything, including itself, so it is never stuffy or boring....
