PinkyShear says "Died in 6 Months" about Maytag Dishwasher - Quiet Series 200

My experience with this machine has been unpleasant. I do a lot of entertaining, and I have 4 kids, so I can except that we put more "wear & tear" on appliances (mainly the washing machine). However, even our heavy usage shouldn't be enough to take down a brand new dishwasher in less than 6 months.

We are renting our home, and a few months ago, both the refrigerator and the dishwasher died in the same week. When I called the home owner, she said she wasn't surprised about the fridge, as it was put in when the house was built, but that the dishwasher wasn't that old. It was a Maytag Quiet Series 100 and about 4-5 years old.

When we moved in, the Quiet Series 100 dishwasher had a cracked handle (which pinched when you opened the door), and the spring in the door was broken, so that it dropped heavily if you let the door go when you opened it, it also made a grinding sound, but it ran and the dishes were cleaned as long as we didn't use the Sanitation Cycle, which left the dishes...
...

I was very excited about getting a new dishwasher. We have a family of 9, and I was hoping to get something inexpensive, fast, quiet, & efficient. This machine might pass as cheap, but that's about it. I paid extra for the stainless (which is just a thin sheet of metal that will cut you if an edge is exposed). The stainless kick plate fell off about a month after it was installed, we never could get it back on. The handle cracked after 3 months, and pinched anyone that attempted to open it. And to add insult to injury, the dishes are almost dirtier when they come out. The "sanitizing" cycle literally bakes any particles on to the dishes, making it nearly impossible to get it off.

It was very loud from the start, but as time passed it seemed to get louder until it almost sounded like it was grinding something every time the cycle ran. The cycles are ridiculously long. The length of the cycle completly voids the "Energy Efficient"claim.

Had a 2 day arguement with the...
...

We had the Maytag dishwasher for 15 month. It does not start at all. The repairman says that the board and the control panel have to be changed it costs $380. I paid $50 for service call and decided its not worth the repair. My GE dishwasher which I paid half the price of the Maytag dishwasher lasted 6 years and it was still working fine when we decided to update to a Maytag!!
...

Bought this unit at Home Depot. Worked as expected until, after 12 months, it began to leak soap suds after 30 minutes into the cycle. (See photo) After trying different soap amounts and brands, we called a service tech. For $90, he told us to run white vinegar in the unit to help clear out any soap scum that could be inhibiting the drainage. He also questioned whether our unit was really 12 months old given this type of leak. (He was insinuating that the installer had given us an older unit, though I can't find evidence of this.) His solution actually worked; however, we have to run this "white vinegar cycle" every 2-3 weeks or the leak reoccurs. This type of maintenance is unacceptable for a new Maytag dishwasher. We will never buy a Maytag product again.
...

Avoid this dishwasher. I've suffered a QuietSeries 200 for 4 years now, but enough. First of all, "Quiet" is a misnomer - it's very noisy. It takes an age to wash, and then leaves filth on plates and in the water is fails to pump out. No problem, for me, with the latch but the basket has rusted through in places. Really very poor and unhygienic.
...

We have owned and used our Maytag Quiet Series 200 since we moved into our new home 5 years ago. We have never had a problem with maintenance or functionality of the unit; it's still going strong! I love the different settings and that the dishwasher remembers the last setting I selected - simply hitting "start" will begin the last setting I selected. I love the delay timer setting so I can have the dishwasher run after the family has gone to bed. My only complaint is that it's NOT "quiet"! I can't run it during a movie or when we have friends over. But, again, that's what the "delay" feature is for, right?
...

My wife and I thought we were getting a trust worthy product when we bought a Maytag product and almost thought getting the extended warranty would be a waste. Well it turns out the best decision we made was to get the 5 year warranty. We had it repaired almost annually. From a leaking seal to the door handle constantly breaking (made of plastic), it was a nightmare. We found it to be extremely unacceptable for normal usage. Maybe its meant to be used once a week. ...

miki02131 says "Poorly Manufactured" about Maytag Dishwasher - Quiet Series 200

Four years ago we bought a Maytag Quiet Series 200 for more than $500.00. At that time, we tought it was one of the most advanced, effective, reliable, long-lasting, and efficient dishwashers on the market. We even recommended it to a neighbour who acquired one immediately upon our recommendations. However, it didn't take long for the dishwasher to start disappointing us.

First, it was unable to cleanly wash dishes without manual precleaning.

Second, the door release machanism easily breaks as it is made out of brittle plastic material.

Third, the major components are held together by plastic and metal screws. The metal will easily wear out the plastic and limit the useful lifetime of the diswasher.

Fourth, the motor is linked to the inner mechanism through a plastic coupler. Once the plastic wears out, the water spraying action stops while the heating element keeps getting hotter and hotter. This is specially dangerous since if left unattended, it can set a house on fire.

Bottom line:......
