With my first (colicky!) baby, I spent the first 6 months of his life in a rocking chair while I watched the dirty dishes pile up. So, when we were expecting baby #2, I looked on-line for ways to carry my baby and found Maya Wrap. Absolutely awesome! Nicholas was in the baby sling from the first week after birth until he was 2 1/2 and determined to run. I loved the flexibility--with an endless variety of ways to hold him, I was sure to find a way he liked to be held, whether he was sleeping or up and looking around. And, there was peace of mind--I always knew where he was, that he was okay, and that his older brother wasn't 'loving' him while he slept. I could do household chores, and shopping was a breeze--no fear of germs from the cart or that someone would snatch him up when I turned to get an item from the shelf. My 3 year old and I were able to continue our story time at the library. With Nicholas in the sling, I could hold his hand while we walked from the car and...
...

I have four children ranging from eight years to fifteen months. I've worn all of my children with a Maya Wrap and I actually bought a new one recently because I used mine so much I wore it out.

You can use the Maya Wrap from birth to 35 pounds. There are lots of different ways you can wear it and holds you can have the baby in. It even comes with an instruction video to show you different ways to do it.
...

lesliecoxolsen says "A must have for a mom of 2" about Maya Wrap Baby Sling

I was freaking out about the prospect of soon being a mom of a newborn and a 1 1/2 year old, and starting researching my options. I wanted a wrap-type carrier, because my first just screamed bloody murder the one time I tried to put him in a structured carrier. I wanted to make my own carrier (read: buy a length of cloth and tie it around us) but then found my Maya wrap on Craigslist for cheaper than I could buy the cloth. It was a godsend. Actually, at first, he hated it. But then another mom showed me another position to use, and it was a miracle. For the first 3 months, he immediately fell asleep in it. This allowed me to focus on my late-walking toddler. Then for a few more months, he just happily hung out and observed his world from a safe, hands-free place. This Maya wrap (or really any baby carrier) is an absolute must have for a parent with more than 1 kid. I can't tell you how much it has saved me....

I loved my Maya wrap baby sling! It was so easy to use and grew with the baby. I could breastfeed inconspicuously without having to hang blankets that would slip all over the baby. I loved that as the baby got bigger, there were more choices for positioning the baby and sling to meet the different carrying needs. The fact that it came with not only instructions but a VHS/DVD, helped me be able to go back and review different uses as well as trouble-shoot any problems I was encountering. The Maya wrap baby sling was a real life saver with my babies that were more colicy or during clingy times....

I really like the maya wrap and I love the idea of wearing your baby or anything that promotes bonding in this manner but I could never get it to work for me. I think it is because I am such a tiny person because I could never get my babies in there without them being really scunched up and their neck bent funny. Even the preformed front carriers that you strap on your front (or back) didn't work for me because I am not broad enough. I am 5'2" and weight 100 lbs so if you are my size, your baby maybe scrunched in one of these. However, if you have an older child that can support them self, the sitting up positions might work. Didn't try those. I really wish i could have used it though. I loved the idea of it.
...

THIS is the MOST wonderful idea. I used it, and still do when we go to the store, on walks, to public events and so on. I once was in a store and son woke up and wanted to ride in the cart, so I sat him in the seat and realized that the seat belt was broken. I wrapped this around him and wove it though the seat and it made a wonderful belt! This also helped when I was breastfeeding. I LOVE this item and think that every mother should have one. It also helped my son calm down when he was a baby and he wasn't nearly as restless as others....

chingue says "Lovely sling, impossible for some to master. " about Maya Wrap Baby Sling

Ahhh.... yes.... I am becoming accustomed to being the one swimming against the current. I purchased a Maya Wrap sling when my son was a newborn. Beyond watching the DVD (repeatedly), and enduring several frustrating attempts to love the thing... it went to eBay.

First, the good:

The construction of this sling is solid. I know as a first time mother, I was hesitant to 'wear' my son... what if he slips/jumps/wiggles/etc?!?! Yeah, funny now, but then it was a bit stressful. The Maya wrap sling was solid and the fabric feels as durable as it is lovely. The colors (and the choices) are awesome, great/colorful/vibrant, and such a nice alternative to the 'everything is pastel' world of babies. The DVD was a nice addition to the package - helpful to see the different methods of babywearing. The sling is portable and discrete for those who are nursing.

The not-so-good:

The rings slip! And I mean they slip when you just think about the rings slipping. I found it difficult not only to position......

I would not have survived the first few months of motherhood without my Maya Wrap! I have high needs babies that don't like to be put down, and the Maya Wrap allowed me to give my babies what they needed and still get things done. Also, when I went out, I didn't have to worry about a baby screaming to be picked up while I juggled shopping bags or a cart. I had both hands free to tend to my shopping and older child, and the baby was cozy, held against my chest. I highly, highly recommend a Maya Wrap for ALL new parents!...

Like a lot of moms, I am overweight. The package said that I could wear it, but it was too uncomfortable. Everytime I leaned over, I felt like my baby was going to hit the floor. I am not sure if it was because of my weight or the product's design.
...
