Mary J. Blige's Growing Pains may have hurt her along the way but she is definitely a strong young woman and contender in the music industry. Her lyrics and beats command attention to listen to her story(ies), her sorrows and her triumphs over pains. She made and still makes a statement that she is on top of ALL pains and sorrows. There is definitely no going back nor backwards. Her kind of perseverance should definitely be rewarded, and it was. People everywhere Love Her and Her Growing Pains. Do you feel where she's coming from? Oh, and, let's talk about the dance beats that only Mary J. knows how to through down her smooth lyrics on! That's her secret recipe! Make people want to move and sing-a-long to her R&B/HIP-HOPPIN' TRACKS! Everything about this ALBUM is "JUST FINE!" WHOOO! ...

I will be the first to say that I am a fan of MJB's music and have been tuned in from the beginning. I always look forward to a new release from her because I am certain to be pleased.....this time out however I was put on the fence with this one. While it is full on Mary it lacks that certain spark that she usually brings to the table. On this current offering she sounds like a woman more on a mission to get another record sale instead of putting her heart and soul into doing what she does best.

Not to be counted out fully, there are times that she shows that she still is the voice of a generation like on the tune Till The Morning.....that one song alone saves the Cd from landing in the bottom two because it is CLASSIC Mary....sass, class, and all!

Although it is not a total loss Mary, next time around, needs to turn the pains into pleasures to deliver a more well rounded less rushed sounding Cd.
...

I have not always been a big fan until attending one her concerts in a park last year and if was worth every dollar spent. She really did a great job on this album there is nothing on there I don't like. If I had to pick a least liked track it would be the one with the rapper but that is just because I am not a big fan of rap. This is a well produced album and I would recommend everyone to check it out.
...

All I am going to add to this review I waited on pins and needles for this cd to drop. When I finally downloaded it from iTunes, I was not at all disappointed, I have barely stopped listening to this cd. This is cd is by far one of Mary's best ever, she shows marturity and diversity in her music, and it is about time she has done so. Just Fine is one of the best songs on the cd, follwed by Mirror, Nowhere Fast And Grown Woman. Yes, check this cd out I feel you will not be disappointed....

MJB's latest album, "Growing Pains", has the makings of a classic as we hear Mary J. Blige like you never heard her before but in then again...you probably have.

Blige keeps herself truth to her music and love to tell her life in her songs as she goes from one track to the next without stopping, which makes the album itself worth listening to from start to finish.

A cameo from Ludacris brings out another head banger in the way of 'Grown Woman', which makes the world take noticed that she isn't the same woman from the Uptown records days.

As always, Blige connects to her fans in songs like 'Work In Progress' and 'Roses' which brings out the rawness in Blige as well as the newness of her handling different and most interesting beats to her songs.

Overall, the album brings out the very best in Mary J. Blige that many of her fans already knew was there. And to those who have never heard her, this will be a grand example of how grown she is now and how powerful her music has become to date.
...

I can't say it any better than this man - - Glenn Gamboa at www . newsday .com

"People can relate to pain. They understand drama. Happiness? Self-fulfillment? That stuff's harder to get behind, especially when you're seeing it in somebody else and not yourself.

Nevertheless, Mary J. Blige makes that switch seem effortless on her new album "Growing Pains" (Geffen). The Queen of Hip-Hop Soul has been living out her "no more drama" mantra for three albums now and this time she seems to have mastered it.

"I'm talking about things that I know," she sings in a passionate run during the new single (and iPod commercial) "Work That," amid a swirl of self-empowerment statements - "Follow me, follow me, girl, be yourself" and "Don't worry about who's saying what, work what you got" - and a modernized version of the new-Jill-swing groove she used to ride back in the

Like some sort of tattoo-rocking, ballad-belting, hip-hop-loving Oprah, Blige has truly internalized her life lessons.
