Had the MagicJack for several months now. The audio stopped working on most of the calls placed and received. Can't hear incoming calls and can't hear outgoing calls. This renders the MJ useless. Spent several hours with customer support. They are unable to resolve and unable to escalate and unable to do anything now. Now when I 'chat' with customer service they are unwilling to help. They tell me I am out of options. They will not refund me for the 5 years of service I purchased and they do not participate in number portability so I can't take my number to another provider. I really am out of options. I bought it now can't use it several months later because it is broken. This product, service and customer service is the worst. STAY AWAY

i am a VOIP Geek and MJ has its placed in the world BUT!!!

there is one major FAILING (besides others) MJ actually BLOCKS MOST Conference Calls and tell you to use their own Conference call service yea right what if you do not start the call and just need to be able to dial in this should/might be illegal

most practical for family overseas IMO

many will be unhappy trying to replace their home phone service (better go with Goggle voice and many of the other FREE VOIP providers)

but i keep one with me when i visit family or friends

What Happened? I was loving MagicJack, then out of the blue with NO warning they changed the rules. No longer allowed to dial a conference call in Minnesota. They want you to use THEIR conference calling website. It's a lie to say you can call any number in the U.S. if you can't! Plain and simple. I plan to let everyone know, not to get ripped off and buy Magic Jack! Stealing Sucks as does Bait and Switch! Shame on you MagicJack!

Love the Magic Jack. I havent had any Problems using it.

It works Great, Sounds Great can call out and recive call just fine (other users have reported problems, I think they need to check there Firewall settings).

magicJack is a superior telecommunications subistute, it can be used to call any cell and land line # execpt 900 # i belive.

As others have said, I ran in to the same problems, They did not have a local Prefix for my area. I was however able to get my area code but it is long distance for other to call me with out a local prefix since my ares code covers over 40% of the state.

They probley should not sell it if numbers are not available, you should be able to request a Number at the time of purchase and be able to cancle the order if a local number is not availble.

You can change you # once with out charge so when a Local number dose open up you can change it for free but they do not offer a service to let a coustomer know when a number is available.

This is about MagicJack but first things first. I had been using Jah Jah to call my dad at 2.9 cents a minute and getting 150 free minutes to call my brother since he also signed up for Jah Jah as well. The last few months I was messaged to add funds or my free minutes were not available. Well, with very little long distance calling this was becoming tedious and costly. I heard about MagicJack and decided to try it. Once it inititiates I have no problem with the sound quality or ease of use. The price is incredible. My one problem is I often have to unplug and replug the usb to get it to connect.

I recently got the Magic Jack to try and save money on my phone bill. So far, so good. All you do is plug the device into a USB port in your computer and it runs your telephone. Cool! It is VERY inexpensive and seems to work pretty well. You can see on your computer who is calling and use your mouse to answer the phone. The calls are clear too.

I did have a bit of trouble hooking it up at first. However, I followed the instructions given and it fixed itself very quickly. I have also noticed that surfing the web and talking on the phone at the same time can cause some slowness with my DSL connection. And I had to get a new set of phones in order for this to work, just because only one phone can be plugged into the Magic Jack. So I bought a system with satellite handsets. I have also had some trouble retrieving voicemail. But I havent' had any real problems yet. The only one I foresee if if/when the power goes out, no phone service. I guess we'll use the cell...

MagicJack does not provide support for their product and will not replace a defective unit. Multiple attempts were made to get their product to operate with zero success.

If you have one, it must be used frequently due to the process used to update and modify the operation. If a few days are missed in using the product, it becomes inoperative and having missed one or more updates, it can no longer accept updates and becomes a very useless small paper weight. Attempts to have the problems corrected, get the a replacement unit or a refund are useless.

First of all I'm pissed, i just helpped my border go throught 2 hrs. of live help. "Morons". I've been working with computers since 1981 and know a thing or two. but these morons don't know jack let alone the magic of making it work! it broke after 2 days, failled to power on, tested all ports they tested fine. even put it on a diferent computer, all before i called them. the techs are so stupid that they can't fantom why one would get upset at answering the same questions 4 different times as they pass you from one tech to another, burning your time because they don't want to replace or warranty it. God knows it should work for more than two days.

We purchased the Magic Jack back in June 2008 and immediately fired Comcast as our provider. We paid $39.95 which included the device, and one years service and a 30 day free trial. The device connects to a USB port and then you plug in your phone. It does have quite a few dropped calls but considering our phone bill has gone from $840 a year to $19.95, we cannot complain. Another bonus, in terms of cost, is the great international calling rate from the USA to UK, $10 buys about 260 mins. However, we purchsed one for our family back home, and now we can call each other for free! be warned it can make the computer run slow and my computer crashes if I make a call and use the internet. But these are small disadvantages for us, we keep reminding ourselves of the savings!

We just love it and its working pretty decent - amonst our friends and family we have abt 15 of them ... and they all are happy atleast now can keep in touch with family around north america ... dont need any other long distance service and also dont have to wait for 9 pm :) to get free minutes on the cell phone (you know how it is in the last few days of billing)

Also have heard people sending it out of country to keep in touch with their family (that surely must save a lot on International Calling too) Its damn cool for travelling too you just take the device and your same # will work with your wireless internet and a laptop / desktop.

So far, I'm very pleased with my MagicJack. It was incredibly easy to install - just plug and play - and very easy to make calls. The sound quality is inconsistent at times, but overall it's not a big problem. You also have to leave your computer on to make and receive calls, which can be a bit of a pain. Overall, however, I'm pleased with the quality and ease of use. It's an extremely cost-effective device, and I wish I'd had it earlier!...

The MagicJack phone works "kind of" well, although callers sometimes complain about voice quality, and I need to dial calls more than once about half the time. The problem I have is that I need to reformat the MJ and login every time I turn on the computer. I didn't sign up for this level of inconvenience. Tech support is below average. The last suggestion they gave was to remove and plug in the MJ gizmo every time I turn on the computer. Didn't help, to say nothing about crawling behind the computer to unplug and re-plug the gizmo. MJ makes a serviceable solution if you are looking for a separate phone from the one God and Ma Bell meant for us to use....

After you have connected the dongel for the first time, registered the device, and have the 'softphone' on the screen, you should probably run TCP Optimizer to "tune" your computer to work with it in an efficient manner; it can be downloaded from the following website:

You can use the TCP Optimizer by following these short instructions:

Choose your maximum Connection Speed from the slider bar (the maximum available bandwidth, in kilobits per second)
Choose your Network Interface, or check to Modify All Network Adapters
Pick "Optimal settings" from the radio-buttons near the bottom of the program
Click on the "Apply changes" button and reboot

   Hello, Today I'd like to tell you about some of my experiences with the "Magic Jack"

         My fiance' and I had seen the advertisements for the "Magic Jack" and we became very interested, It looked like a great money saver in today's tight economy. We were the first of all of our acquaintances to purchase the "Magic Jack" and try it. We had purchased 2 of them, and at first they seemed wonderful and we began recommending them to everyone we spoke with. Myself, taking on new technology at a rapid pace. My fiance', an I.T., amongst many other things.
         Now that we've used the "Magic Jack" for over 6 months - Our opinion is starting to change a bit.
