Recently purchased the Maestro 4000 for a trip to Philadelphia from Boston. I considered other Magellellan products (3100, 4040) and other brands but liked the screen size, AAA database and price ($335 when purchased, now down to $299). Overall the product worked very well.

Navigating the menus is relatively easy, Magellan keeps your options simple, Entering an address, looking up a AAA Point of Interest, setting or canceling a route is a matter of point, listen, click. In fact my wife, not a gadget gal, found it easy to locate tourist sites in Philly without any help.

I found the system to be very accurate, particularly when directing me through confusing freeway on and off ramps. The split screen visual when taking a compound off-ramp is very helpful. The AAA database is extensive though it doesn't contain every listing you might like (for example, I could not find a single Friendly's Rest. listing...though many other chains are located).

Did not have any problems with freezes over a...
...

The Magellan - Maestro 4000 GPS Navigation System is a global positioning system that usually does a very good job. It is fairly easy to program the address that you wish to travel to into the device. The digital display of the words on the monitor can be read clearly. These are good features for such a device to have.

However, Magellan - Maestro 4000 GPS Navigation System is not perfect. There have been times when the GPS has taken me to places by a certain series of directions. These directions are supposed to be the shortest route. However, I know for a fact that the route is not the shortest route, either by time or by miles.

And, while I know that this type of mistake doesn't happen all the time(thank goodness), it has happened on several occasions. Of course, all of these occasions were ones that I really couldn't afford to be late at all.

I can think of one case in which the GPS indicated to go left onto Rt. 35, in a southernly direction. The only problem with...
...

The Maestro 4000 is a exstreamly awlsome navigational system. What makes Maestro 4000 so special is the memory it has on it. Also this thing is very easy to use. My first day using it, I would have sworn I had it mastered even though I probly was wrong. It's easy to find out were you are when you think your lossed. In fact you can never really be lost with the Maestro 4000 unless your in a completely different country. Its easy to use all you need is the Maestro 4000 an address to whatever event your going and a car or bike even walk if you have to. The Maestro 4000 is not a very big item so you can carry one of these babies just about anywhere are or anywhere you have to go. I would recommend this product to a friend. To be correct I would recommend this product to anybody especially a friend who takes alot of road trips or a friend who has family and really can't afford to be lost all day. The navagational system has been so useful to me I never would have thought I would need...
...

n123 says "Magellan-Maestro 4000 GPS-we never leave home without it" about Magellan - Maestro 4000 GPS Navigation System

We own the Megallan Maestro 4050 GPS navigation system. It is hard to believe that we used to use a map. When we first bought it we would not take it with us if we knew where we were going. From time to time we would run into some traffic problems and wished we had brought it with us. We now never leave home without this system even if we know where we are going.

It has an anti-glare touch screen which is very handy when it is sunny out. Another handy feature is the AAA TourBook guide information. We have used it on a number of occasions.

Other helpful features are the voice command and control, turn-by-turn voice and visual guidance and of course the pre-loaded maps.

Our only fear now is if it where to ever stop working. We have become so dependent on this system. It is a lot safer than driving with a map. Especially when there is only one person in the car who has to keep looking at the map while driving.

To-date we have not experienced any malfunction problems with...
...

My husband and I purchased the Magellan - Maestro 4000GPS Navigation System a few months ago when he started traveling with his job. It has helped us find places that we didn't think could have existed. It is very easy to use and with his large fingers the touch screen is a breeze. The only problem we have had with this navigation system is that on long trips on a interstate - the voice will scare you to death after it has been idle for a while. One problem we have had is that is sometimes takes a while to recalculate at the beginning of a trip. If we turn it off and go where we know to go without it, it starts back at the place where we turned it off and takes a while to update, so if you leave out thinking you know where you are going before it recalculates, you could be on the wrong track and have to detour. We really have enjoyed this product and would still be lost if we hadn't had it on some of our trips.
...

Magellan - Maestro 4000 GPS Navigation System does the trick. It gets you to where you are going. It's great for the long trips especially if your going somewhere that you've never been to before. It can be a little annoying at times, but it still works none the less. We recently took a long trip down to Florida, had no idea how to get there but it took us all the way with no problems. It's nice not having to stop at a gas station to ask for directions like we used to have to do. It could use more updates though on actual places under the searches but other than that it works just the same. It could be a little easier to use as far as typing in addresses etc, takes a bit too long to program. We only purchased it recently so that we could have it for our trip, it is defineately worth the money we spent. In the long haul, it is a time savor. We ran into construction along the way and it had re routed us with no problem. WOW!!

...

What can I say if you were to blindfold me turn me around a couple of times and then unblindfold me I would be lost. My friends make fun of me because I live in Boca and sometimes I still have to ask them how to get somewhere. We bought the Magellan last year before our vacation. We travel to Pennsylvania every year and on the way from there to home we stop along the way. I am an okay map reader and usually my husband does all of the driving and I am the navigator. What a pleasant surprise when we plugged in our destination to Maggie (that is our nickname for the Magellan) and she directed us to our destination. Not only did she reroute us when there were detours but she got us there in the quickest time. I use the Magellan not only when I am travelling but also when I am driving locally especially when I have to drop my kids off at different friends houses. I plug in the address and it takes me to their door. Buying the Magellan was the best investment we could make now I can......

mAGELLAN MAESTRO works great. It tells the name of the street an additional plus. And warns before 2miles and then every half.that makes managing turns and changing lanes very easy. Besides audio warning are very easy even if you are not able to look at it. The only problem I face is that often it selects some routes that are difficult..overlooking the easy ones. And at times few details are bit obsolete.otherwise it works great.Has so many added advantages and options.I really recommend every one who never wants to get lost:-)...
