I rescued my first cat about thirteen years ago. Since then I have rescued two others. I purchased my first Littermain Automatic Litter Box about ten years ago. That first one lasted me a good five years before it cratered. Since that first one, I have purchased at the very least SIX others. (I am a slow learner) I was sure my cats were finding ways to break them before I learned that the motors don't last, the plastic pieces break too easy, and they clog up, no matter how good the litter is. I have spent more hours on the phone with their customer service and have received no help or compensation. These units are a total waste of money. For what you pay for one versus the time they last is a joke (as is their customer service). Yes, it took me a while to learn --- don't you make the same mistake.
...

bobbyr54 says "Littermaid Mega Elite is good but needs lots improvement." about Littermaid Elite Automatic Cleaning Litter Box

The Littermaid Mega Elite is better than having to scoop out a plain old litter box every day, but as with my first plain old Mega model it still leaves a lot to be desired. It is not as sanitary for you to use as the commercials lead you to believe. The plastic waste recepticles don't close tight and odors still get out as they fill up. You have to make sure the containers corners snap in place by hand and the lids don't always stay on. they have to be sealed with tape. This is to even keep the smell in too. They're also too expensive, and the charcoal doesn't always stuck to the lid. But the original Mega had something over the Elite. It cleaned the whole box out except, like Elite, it missed the ones stuck to the floor of the box, which the Elite also does. The other things that both Megas had in common was that they were very sanitary for you when you had to change the waste containers. You had to handle it, which means your hands came into close and sometimes actual...
...

arms1977 says "It is better than the scoop it all yourself litter boxes" about Littermaid Elite Automatic Cleaning Litter Box

About six months ago I purchased a LitterMaid Self Cleaning Litter Box. I have two cats and got tired of scooping the box everyday. I thought this would be a perfect solution for both myself as well as the cats. Afetr I bought it, I found it very difficult to put together correctly. I do not remember how long it took, but it felt like ages before I got it right. After I finallt got it together I filled it to the line with the LitterMaid brand cat litter. I took down the old litter box. My cats were a bit confused at first, but quickly figured out that this was their new restroom. I left themalone to do their business and did not come back until the next day. I found that the tray was already full and that there were still clumps in the litter box that the rake had missed. I cleaned it out and added a bit of litter. Later that evening I returned to yet another messy box and two unhappy cats. I now clean the litter box twice a day, how convenient for me.
...

I bought this new littermaid elite after adopting a new kitten for my sons 10th birthday, thinking it would prove to be easier for him to take care of his new baby with this product. (I already have a 13 yr old cat that has always used a traditional hooded litter box) So far, it does not get all the clumps, it leaves a mess on the rake, if have to scoop after each cat (just not as much) and the plastic waste container always falls off and ends up getting litter (and cat waste) all over the floor. (I recently taped it on to see if that will help) More to clean up and more often. It is to shallow and the cats toss litter everywhere, much worse than the traditional litter box I had. It was $200.00 that has only changed the work I put into it rather than reduced it. Two thumbs down, wasted money. I am very disappointed in this product. I would not recommend this to anyone with cats. The only up side, is leaving it for the weekend so it scoops "most" of the litter out of the...
...

We bought the Littermaid Elite to help out our Littermaid LM700 which was several years old and was having some difficulty keeping up with our 5 cats. It proved to be a good addition.

The BEST thing about any littermaid is that it makes keeping the potties clean a lot easier. Yes, there is still work and cost involved, but less than to keep a regular potty clean and changed.

One downside is you have to use a premium litter. We tried using a different, cheaper scoop brand, but it eventually got into the gears of our first electric potty and killed it after year or so. Now we use Tidy cat, which is pricier, but it does go further, and replacing a potty is a pricey undertaking too, if we kept killing it with cheaper litter.

The rake on the Elite is metal and is easy to clean, and the rake comes off the system for easier cleaning, unlike our older model. This model also pushes the refuse into the basket rather than going to the end and lifting it up and then dumping it into the basket...
...

I think this product is an awesome one! I use to use the first littermaid model that came out, but after years of use by two cats it was time for a new one and we love the new model. It makes owning cats easier and more enjoyable....

dccrow says "Not worth the money" about Littermaid Elite Automatic Cleaning Litter Box

In my opinion this product was a HUGE waste of money.

The rake that is supposed to comb the box and get any clumps only worked about half of the time. The clumps would either stick to the rake or the rake would go right over the top of them.
Sometimes the rake would even get stuck and keep going and going back and forth till the box had to be reset.

IT was such a pain to deal with that we just ended up unplugging the thing, and just use the scoop like we did before we had this box.
It just didn't seem worth it to spend money on those plastic tubs when half the time the clumps weren't even making it into them.

I would not recommend this product to anyone. DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY!!!!
...

gladiola says "I have hopes for the littermaid elete and am still working on it" about Littermaid Elite Automatic Cleaning Litter Box

I truly love my 2 almost adult kittens. These are my first cats and I did not realize what a problem the odor of the kitty litter would be. One cat did not seem to be a problem but when we adopted the second kitten it became a major problem. The kittens were amazing in that they have never gone anywhere but in a litter box even though we have changed the litter brand and type and litter box many times. The littermaid elete works very well as to scooping the cat leavings except for sometimes not quite getting it into the waste box however the odor is still a big problem. We did purchase an odor grabber by arm and hammer and that helps a lot. I am hoping when we finally get a litter box cover we can eliminate some of the odor and litter mess. We have tried the cabana and that was a disaster. We are hoping that in the future we can get a cover that will work with the odor and the litter mess....
