LinsayGordon says "Littermaid automatic box...Desined to Fail, Born to Lose" about Littermaid Automatic Self Cleaning Litter Box LM700

Thrilled to finally buy the Littermaid 700 automatic self-cleaning box...then it got intimate! It took a long time to assemble because the notch to hold the receptacle and ramp was so poorly designed and flimsy as to be almost non-existent. I couldn't believe that it was really supposed to hold together that way and kept trying again.
The first time the cat used it the mechanism wouldn't shut off and it kept going through the auto-scoop maneuver incessantly Good thing I was home to shut it off. Called customer service, the cat had peed behind the rake and this clumped so the rake couldn't return to the right position! Poorly trained cat problem, so there. She also informed me that I should have sprayed the whole thing with PAM before assembly. So duh, was I supposed to disassemble it, scrub, spray, and start again?
Tried it some more, soon the flimsy notches let the whole ramp and receptacle go askew, cat's fault again, from the 7 pound cat going in and out. After a few more passes the...
...

The Littermaid automatic cleaner is a peice of junk. I have two cats and the thing couldn't even make it a day without me having to clean it or unclog it. I tried three different types of litters. It goes so bad my cats starting pooing around the house instead of in their box!! I finally trashed it and went back to my regular box. My reccomendation is to NOT purchase this item!...

mtkatzgirl says "Works well most of the time, but has some drawbacks" about Littermaid Automatic Self Cleaning Litter Box LM700

I have had two of these. The first one froze with the rake in the air about 3 months after I bought it and I could never get it to retract. The second one has been in use for over 18 months now and is great for keeping most of the material racked up. But as many people have stated, material does cake up on the rake and sometimes on the base or in a corner depending on how often and where your cats pee mostly. So I do periodically have to take a traditional litter rake to the base to losen material so the rake will catch it and rake it into the tub.

You do have to keep an eye on it if you have multiple cats as the tub can fill up and then the lid pops over and stays off and the litter can overflow out of the tub. Then you have a mess.

Yet for the most part it does take care of the routine and daily raking of the litter. It isn't as ease free as the ads make out but it does help. But I do have some traditional litter boxes as well because one of my cats prefers a covered litterbox...
...

I think this is a great concept. It's a great time saver, as I only have to empty the waste every 3 or 4 days. I reuse the plastic receptacles, as they do get pricey. Now, if Littermaid would only improve the life expectancy I would be estatic. As it is, my first one lasted 2 or 3 years before it died. The second one I had to return after a few days as it didn't work at all & the one I have now periodically stops working for 2 or 3 days at a time before it starts working again (without doing anything to it). It's now a couple of years old so may have to replace it soon. BUT....I wouldn't be without it. The cats like it, as their box is always relatively fresh and clean....and, with 3 cats, that's crucial! Overall, it has more pros than cons and I would definately recommend it (and do)!...

This thing is GREAT especially the newest modle which we just got, we have 4 cats and a regular litter box was a chore. We have to empty more than with one cat but it is well worth it. This new modle has an ion cleaner to keep down odor and a timer to shut it off at night...

This is not a good product if you have more than one cat. When I had 3 cats using this litter box the receptacle would fill up quickly and sometimes things would spill out, or the clumps would stick to the bottom or sides of the box and not get completely scooped. The broken clumps that were not scooped caused the litter to smell bad and I often had to hand scoop the smaller pieces out myself.

I would recommend this if you have a single cat who doesn't use the litter box all that often - for my cats I went back to scooping a regular litter box and found it to be less problematic
...

I have used the Littermaid Self Cleaner for the past 13 years that I have had my cats and this is one product that I could not do without. When I first found my 2 kittens I tried to keep a normal litter box and found I just couldn't keep it as clean as I wanted. This totally helped me get the cleaning and the litter box smell under control.

The Littermaid cleaner is so easy to use. Just fill with litter, put in a container to catch all the clumped litter and plug it in. The cleaner has sensor, so once your cat has done it's business it waits 10-15 minutes and then rakes up the clumps and dumps it in the disposable containers. Of course when the container is full you just put the lid on it and throw it away - or you can do like I do in order to save money and just take the container out, dump the waste in a plastic bag and put the container back in to reuse. I also add some baking soda to the container so they last longer. The containers can be expensive so it is a smart thing to reuse them...
...

Being the owner of 3 cats, two of which are 16 to 19 pounds each and the other one, well, she's just a tiny little thing. You can imagine I am always trying this and that when it comes to the litter box.

When the litter maid first came out, it sold for well over $200.00 and most likely a big hit. But to some of us, like me, I am not about to spend that kind of money, especially for a cats poop box.

Then Target came out with a sale on the litter maids. I had some extra money left over from vacation and decided to give it a try. I looked everything over and was pretty pleased with what I was reading on the box. I picked up the premium cat litter, as instructed. Then I had to buy eight.. yes 8 D size batteries!

I set the thing up beside the washing machine. My cats had no trouble using it either. But, and this is a big one, with 3 cats, those batteries only lasted 2 weeks!

Near the end of the battery life, the litter maid kept getting stuck when the cats would pee pee. The clumping litter......

This is a great idea. When they work it's the easiest and cleanest way to have a litter box. The problem I've had is with the motors. I've never had one last longer than a year. And with a heavy price, that has made me go back to the old manual kinds. My cats were always afraid of the sounds at first but quickly got over it. ...
