After suffering through a lot of problems with a rival company router, I listened to some of my more tech-savy friends and got the Linksys wireless router. I have never been happier.

Firstt of all , the set up process is fast and easy. Pop in the CD, follow the instructions to set up the password and security options, and boom. Your newly acquired wireless capability is ready to go!

The range on this product is fantastic. I have a one bedroom apartment on the second floor, and in one emergency instance, I was able to use my own wireless internet from my car in the parking lot from over 60 feet away.

I also have to commend the security protocols for this product. While other routers I have used allow me to choose a password for my protection, Linksys makes up its own password that is something like 15 characters long includes numbers, capital/lowercase letters, and symbols. I could never come up with a password that secure on my own.

And as far as durability, forget about it. I've owned...
...

nicktau02 says "A Must have for the home, well a must have if flashed with ddwrt" about Linksys WRT54G

As the others have stated before me the WRT54GL benefits from the ability to be flashed with third party firmware. I would not recommend this router to someone who plans to use just the standard firmware, if that's your intent I would go with the WRT54G. However, that being said this router is an excellent buy for someone with networking experience who wants an inexpensive router to do expensive networking tasks.

Like what you may ask? Well I may tell you that you can set up your own VPN server on this router, as well as a Samba or FTP server, it can perform as a bridge, it can boost wireless signals, it can be a Radius server, and I'm sure if you're cool enough you can even get it to slice, dice and julienne. Those however are just a few of the extra features that you can add with third party firmware.

On top of all this you get one robust little machine. A 200MHz with 8MB RAM and 2MB of flash might not seem like a lot but it is more than enough for home or small office nee

Ive had very few problems with my router. I have 1 desktop with ethernet and 2 laptops with wireless connected to it and it works fine. Im not crazy about the software that came with it however. It takes forever to load the network or to switch to any catagories to make changes. All in all not a bad router just not great software.
...
