abcdefghijklmop says "Linksys by cisco customer "service" is the absolute WORST!!!" about Linksys Model: WRT54G

Maybe the router was cheap enough, and maybe it worked okay for awhile, but getting any of the online updates for this piece of trash was impossible. The customer "service" is non-existant. Trying for over one year to get anything from the "help" lines was like trying to make the sun rise in the west and set in the east. No matter how good the product ever gets, avoid this customer "service" challenged crap at all costs.
...

I bought this router as a replacement for a different Lynksy, the old one was a one antenna, and i figured if it was good, then the 2 antenna one was better.

WE have 2 PC's in the house now, and a laptop, plus friends that visit have laptops. WE can run them all at the same time off this, no matter where in the house and paviallion.

I like the ease of installation, ease of hooking up to my main PC, and the way we can use wireless or direct feed, to the other PC

Have found direct feed to the other PC works bette than wireless, plus we did nhot have to buy a wireless card for the other PC.

My husband was iritated by using just phone line and only one of us on at a time. He would sign on andkick me off. SO byword from a good friend, we purchSED THIS, and the friend installed the first one, I installed the replacement, THAT easy, even a novice can install them.

The price is right, the router is small enough it can be out of sight, can be programmed torestrict use by neighbors wanting free...
...

Sure once in a while you get one of these that will work for a while, maybe even a long while. Unfortunately you will get plenty that will not work or have many random issues with them. When tech support asks you to turn off encryption to try and get wireless to work you know there is an issue with the product....
...

CameramanAaron says "A good budget wireless router that isn't too much trouble." about Linksys Model: WRT54G

In so many products and services, things are expected to go smoothly. Some necessities are taken for granted and not thought about, until they cease to work. At the top of the list of things like that is the wireless router. People expect to hop online to check email, go to their favorite websites, or watch a video clip with ease and speed. Linksys' Wireless G WRT54G is a device that allows for just that. It's a budget router, small and simple and not top of the line. It is reliable, though, and that's really what everyone wants in a router.

The WRT54G has an ethernet input to connect this router to the modem. It has four seperate ethernet output ports for the devices you'd rather keep connected with a cord, not wirelessly. The router comes with a setup disk that isn't too hard to install and setup if you've installed peripherals or devices before. For those that get confused by technology and just use the internet to check your email, you might want to get your nephew...
...

My last Linksys router was a BEFSR41 (wired, with a WAP54G wireless access point connected to one of the ports) ; it worked flawlessly, until I bought my Sony LoctaionFree system (see my review of that unit). I needed UPNP (Universal Plug aNd Play) for the router to work with the Sony, so I updated the router's firmware. Within 6 hours I started having disconnect problems, not only with the wireless, but also with the wired side. That made no sense, and Linksys was no help.

As I (and my wife) use the connection for work (and I am oncall for a hospital), I bought the WRT54G, which is a wired/wireless router. I had disconnect problems from day one (both wired and wireless); every time I made changes to the router's settings, it would disconnect me, or not connect at all (I could see my network, but the router did not see the modem).

Linksys was no help. They suggested I update the firmware (which crashed my last Linksys router) and make setting changes. I made the changes, but didn't update...
...

Although Ver 2 loses conectivity frequently it is still one of the easier wireless routers to setup. Ver 8 seems to lose connctivity less frequently and has several more options than Ver 2. After one of my Ver 2 routers went down it took less than 5 minutes to replace and reconfigure it with a Ver 8 router....

I purchased my WRT54G nearly two years ago. At that time, I had a Belkin G which had replaced my Hawkins G router. Between the three, the Linksys was the greatest. I popped the Linksys right out of the box and plugged it in. And it worked. Simplicity at it's greatest. It's been the most reliable router I've used personally and professionally. Of course, since this thing is a little computer, it will present some problems, however, I can count the number of times I've had a problem that I couldn't resolve in a couple of minutes. It's a workhorse. I've got two desktops hardwired in, a VoIP phone service (VONAGE), and I have a laptop that I use wirelessly. Even living in an apartment building with 6 other families with wireless systems, I have very few problems connecting and staying connected.

I think that this is the greatest product of it's class.
...

I have had this product for almost two years and so far it has been great. It has been very reliable. The admin webpage is easy to use. I have not tried flashing the firmware with a linux based one because I have not had the need.
The range of this router is pretty good. I can get a good signal anywhere around the house....

I upgraded to this model from an earlier Linksys router, hoping their Tech support was right, and that a newer model would solve chronic connectivity losses. It didn't. This router is faster, but I have to disconnect it from its power source and let it re-set at least once every other day. Customer support is always polite, but I do spend a lot of time on hold. Figure at least 30 minutes per call, sometimes more than an hour....

Also, this product is easy use and easy setup too. I don't see any issue of this product. Also, Linksys is a trust network which it is CISCO brand too....

When we first moved into our new house we ordered Internet from SKT. We were told in order to hook up both computers it would be an additional $5 per month, so I went in search of a router. I had only a few choices at the time and after reading the packages I settled for the Linksys WRT54G router. I am happy with my choice of the linksys router and also with the ease of setup. It has paid for itself by saving me that $5 per month my ISP wanted.

The setup

Setup was simple enough with the cd enclosed and the step by step directions. Even for those not used to doing these installs it was quite easy. You have your choice of installing a wireless as well and that was a big plus, as my wife and I both have a laptop. Once I had one computer installed and running I hooked up the wireless part and went through the router setup.

The wireless part was as flawless as the router and I was done in about 20 minutes. That was including setting up a secure network. I have had my......
