THe leapster learning system keeps your kids busy. Lets them learn at the same time as they are playing a game. They can win awards and make great achivements. My daughter is always trying to out do her last score. The only downfall is that they keep coming out with newer and better things for leapster. But the leapster 2 games will work with this leapster which is a plus when your trying to save money. It's fun to bring this along on long trips. Instead of just watching a movie they can learn and keep there imagination going.
...

Being the youngest of three, my son wanted a gameboy at a very young age to be like his older brother and sister. Instead, we got him hooked on the Leapster. He feels like he's playing a gameboy, but it's a great learning tool. He already knows a lot of math at 4. It is great for entertaining him during long car rides, and it's small enough to carry around.
...

I bought this leapster for my 2.5 old son about a month ago and he loves it, some games are a little hard for him still but it entertains him, I think this is an excellent toy as it's very educational and will last him for a while, I am thinking of getting him the leapster 2 for christmas just so he has it for when he's ready to play with it, I would definetly recommend this to any parent, it educates and entertains your child at the same time.
...

I bought the Leapster for my stepson for a christmas gift last year due to he was having problems with reading. At first, i didnt think he would like it due to he plays with action figures all the time. I found him a neat Wall E game, cause he likes Wall E and turns out he loves this game. I cant keep him off of it and his reading has improved. But leapster also teaches math, as well as has regular painting games on it,so its a fun for all for kids!
...

Our boys each received a Leapster for Christmas and have really enjoyed the games. It has been nice that their favorite characters from Star Wars, Cars, Wall-E and others have associated games. The fact that the majority of the games promote learning was a key reason that we were interested in buying these toys!
...

neonfish says "fun and educational device" about Leapster Learning System

The Leapster is a handheld gaming system for preschool and elementary aged students. The device is powered by batteries (which can get pricey and can lead to problems when the batteries run out in the middle of a trip) and has several buttons for the power, moving up, down, right, left, and menu buttons.

We have a few games to go with the Leapster gaming system. We have a drawing program, a Kindergarten program, a "Cars" program. Although they all help reinforce educational skills, some are much better than others. The Kindergarten program, for example, is teaching my son basic subtraction skills already.

The Leapster gaming device is beloved by my 5 year old. He can play them for 15+ minutes at a time (which is perfect because it is not too much, not too little). The games are educational and fun. The device is not terribly expensive and has proven to be very durable in spite of several droppings. Great product!
...

Before I had children, I swore I would keep the kids away from video games as long as possible. My mindset was, whatever happened to the good old days when children did more constructive things, like playing with actual toys and playing outside? For me, too much TV and too many video games contribute to lazy children. Aside from the increase in the intake of junk/fast food, it's a wonder the average child is overweight this day and age.

Once I had my children, I learned instead to live by the good old-fashioned motto, "everything in moderation". Too much of anything can be bad for anyone. My children are ages 3+ years and 19 months at the moment, and yes, they watch TV everyday, for most of the day. But, they aren't glued to it. They alternate between watching, playing, snacking, and my oldest even gravitates to the other room to play educational games on my husband's laptop, where she has her own screen name and kid's browser.

A Travel Companion
My husband and I like to travel. ......

MikeMaroon says "Captures my 4 year old's imagination and teaches, too!" about Leapster Learning System

My just turned 4 year old is more all-over-the-place than a politician's campaign rhetoric. I kid you not. She is super smart and curious about everything. Independent, too. She wants to do everything for herself. I have to tell her 100 times a day, "Michaela, you CANNOT drive the truck down to Food Lion and buy your own milk. Daddy will have to go!". She loves to watch movies, her current favorite is The Nightmare Before Christmas or, in Michaela speak, "The Pumpkin Movie". But, even then, she doesn't sit through it all very often. By halfway through, she's running through the house, proving over and over again God put cats here to be tormented by 4 year olds. I finally found something that will occupy her for hours at a time.

For her 4th birthday, I wanted to get her something that she would enjoy, but was educational at the same time. She is just too smart a kid (you wouldn't believe her vocabulary) to waste money on a toy that doesn't teach her. So, I was trolling......

Goodgirl91579 says "I am not very impressed with the durability" about Leapster Learning System

I bought the Leapster for my son, he is 3 but will be 4 in 2 months. It is not very durable, I do not know what happened but the screen went out, all of the lighting is not working and I am very dissapointed honestly. I expected it to be more durable then this. I did not expect that it would break only 3 weeks after having it. I have trusted Leapfrog for quality and durability, we have not had any problem with their toys until this. I tried to see if any one else has had a problem with the picture on different websites and found nothing about this happening. So I am not sure. I will be contacting them but I am extremely dissatisfied and frustrated. I was planning on buying a secound one for my older son but I am now really starting to rethink it. This does not seem as durable as it should be for a young child especially if they are targetting young children. We have the stationary leapster and I thought my son would enjoy one he could take with him. I am very dissappointed with the durability...
...

This product adds fun with learning and my kids think it's great that they can take it in the car, to the store and grandma's house. It was a little pricey but thats the way it goes nothing is cheap. I also like that the games where creative and my children recognized most of the characters along with the sounds. The additional games could be a lot better priced but they also can be caught on sale....
