This phone is great for daily use that is mostly for fun (texting, brief internet searching). Phone calls are pretty easy to make and receive but the ring tone pickin's are slim. The display looks good but the touch screen is not easy to use. It takes a long time to adjust to how to touch the phone to get it to do what you want and it's very easy to press the wrong link or letter when texting or searching the internet. The only way I've had much use with typing is by using the T9 function instead of the digital keyboard. Picture quality is okay but the shutter speed is extremely slow. The selection of applications for this phone are not the best and are difficult to find. The phone is a bit bulky for what it does. If the phone is not locked, it easily dials or texts in a purse or in a pocket. Sometimes it freezes during internet use or when switching applications. This phone is okay but not a great.
...

I kind of like this phone. It took some getting used too. Texting on a touch phone took some getting used too. Its not like your average qwerty phone that you can just text very quickly and simply. It is very touch sensitive. The lock button sometimes unlocks when push very hard. It is annoying when it does that. The camera is ok. The flash is too bright. I have had this phone for awhile, but i dont know use it as much. I thought this would be a good touchscreen phone, but overall it is just average. Its hard for me to listen to music on this phone too. I can't upload music as easily as the other phones. You would need a software and you can't listen to the music in your memory card. It has its pros and cons, but i have to say touchscreens are not at all what they say they are. Next phone i will probably get is a regular phone.
...

I originally wanted the Blackberry Storm, but learned about an extra $35 a month just to have the phone, I was told the dare was pretty much the same. This phone is great. The only problem I've had with it is it freezes sometimes, but very rarely. Mostly when saving a picture, but like I said, it very rarely happens. It's a great touch screen phone though. I'd advise getting a screen protector for it also.
...

The LG Dare is the best phone that I have ever had. It is like I am carrying around a minature computer with me everywhere that I go. the camera is even able to take picture that look well. I have over 700 pics on my phone and there still space for more and that is just pic memory. With a 14.99 a month plan you can use Rhapsody and download as many songs as you want for the month. Even better the charger disconncts from the outlet piuece allowing you to plug the phone right into your computer for downloads. there is never a time I do not carry this phone around and even though I am eligible for an upgrade there is not another phone that verizon carries that suits my currant needs better than my LG Dare.
...

The LG Dare is an awesome touchscreen phone. This phone is very easy to use once you learn where everything is, and that doesn't take long at all. One of my favorite functions on this phone is the Music you can download. You can download music, videos, pictures, or games from your PC or using the browser on the phone. Although, you will need to get a micro SD memory card, if you plan on downloading more than 40 songs.

Like to text? There are two ways to text, either using a full keyboard or the standard cell phone key pad, the full keyboard takes some getting used to, and can be a little difficult if you have fat fingers like me, I use the standard key pad, it is easier for me to use. Another cool function on the LG Dare is the voice command, tell your phone who you want to call instead of searching through the phone book, also great to use if you need to make a call while driving.

This phone is great. The only problem I may have with this phone, would be a problem you may have with...
...

I've used the LG Dare for almost two years now--have even kept it when i was eligible for an 'upgrade.' The touch screen is very responsive and exact. I've only developed problems once that were solved by recalibrating the screen, an easy and quick process built into the phone.

I do wish the Dare had a better calendar interface, like the Blackberry. I also wish it had more applications from 3rd parties. The applications offered by Verizon are OK, but pricey. Many of the more useful ones, such as WeatherBug, are only available by monthly subscription.

If you buy a micro SD card, this phone is great for media. Without the additional memory, the phone can't hold many songs, but it has a standard size headphone jack that's handy for use with your favorite headphones.

For those with larger or calloused fingers, a stylus would be helpful, since the touch screen is very precise. It's a great phone for those who text often. The screen converts to a qwerty keyboard when turned on...
...

Bickle says "lacks multitouch and is a little slow, but overall good" about LG - Dare VX9700 Cell Phone

The LG Dare is a touchscreen pseudo-smartphone from Verizon that was developed as a fast-response to iPhone. The biggest problem with it is that its a little crippled in some important ways, First and foremost no app store, secondly it's a little small in my hands, and the ringer is too quiet, even at max loudness and when I went into the ringtone file and increased the virtual volume to maximum. Lack of multitouch can make some things frustrating Overall the phone is a good value, and more imporantly about the only thing approximating a smartphone you can get without being locked into their data plan, which is useless around my house because we dont get an EVDO signal virtually at all

For some reason the center clear/back button is illuminated, and it looks weird through the silicone jacket I have on the phone, and I also often mistake the lock key for the camera key. When youre trying to take a picture fast seconds count!
...

Got the LG Dare in December 2008 as an upgrade from my previous verizon cellphone. I was originally interested in the iPhone but at the time, the LG Dare was a serious contender in price, size, and capabilities. Added to that the fact that I absolutely LOATHE AT&T, the Dare was what I went with.

There are only 3 buttons on the front--dial, power, and one I can't remember because my phone is on the other side of the room :) Everything is touch screen, including the QWERTY keyboard.

The phone has a vibrate mode (which is customizable to a point) for when you use the touch-screen, so you can tell you're touching an icon, or typing a letter.

The phone also has a built in gyroscope thing so you can get a landscape view and full size keyboard when the phone is turned to the side. this is great, because I hate using the keypad to type out messages, but don't like the crappy quality of slide out keyboards on cellphones.

It is now August 09, I use the phone daily and feel that it has held up...
...

I have had the LG DARE/VX9700 touch screen phone for over a month now and it is a great phone and certainly the best touch screen Verizon has to offer and a great alternative to an iphone over on that other network AT&T. Remember you will need phone plan, internet plan, picture/text plan and they have many to choose from. Myself I went alacart and chose specific things I wanted and know I would use and it cost me less than several of the packages offered. NOTE: This is not a SMARTPHONE, it doesn't promote itself that way but some may expect that and it is not.

Side note for comparisons:
I have an Apple iPod Touch mp3 player which is basically a first generation iPhone without the phone. The Touch is a superb product and the screen is unsurpassed in it's size and clarity, identical to the iPhone and I even get free wi-fi on the iPod Touch, something you pay for with a data plan with the iPhone. If the iphone had more features and fair plan/price options it would be more desirable, maybe...
...

LG's handset dares to take things in a different direction. The appropriately named LG Dare presents a few tricks we haven't seen before in the touch-screen phone genre. For example, you can drag and drop icons to make your own customized shortcuts on the home screen, or you can use a drawing pad to sketch ideas or draw a map, which can then be sent via MMS to a friend. The Dare also has one of the most advanced cameras we've seen on a touch-screen phone--its 3.2-megapixel camera has settings like face detection, noise reduction, panorama photo stitching, and a SmartPic technology designed for taking photos in low light. The built-in camcorder can even record high-speed video and play it back in slow-motion, which is a first for U.S. camera phones. We certainly wouldn't want to call this an iPhone killer since it doesn't have features such as Wi-Fi, and its Web browser and media player aren't as good. However, the Dare is a very appealing alternative for Verizon customers who want a touch-screen...
...

I have the LG Dare from Verizon Wireless and love it. This phone has everything you could want short of being a smart phone. It has a 3" touch screen with a customizable desk top. You choose the shortcuts you want to have on it. I love this feature. No more searching through menus. Everything I was it one touch away. I could never go back to a regular phone now. It has a 3.2 megapixel camera. It take beautiful pictures outside. Just as clear as any comparable digital camera. It is still good in artifical light, but you definitely loose some clarity. It has a flash, but the flash it too bright and a blue color. I really don't take night pictures. It also has a camcorder feature with will record in up to 640x480 resolution. Very nice.

It has a full html browser so it renders most normal websites very well. There is no flash support so anything flash will not load. I still like to use the mobile web most of the time because it's faster. It has mobile IM for aol, msn, Yahoo. It runs on the...
...
