MadameMadScientist says "Krups Burr Grinder: now my daily grind is a Daily Grind" about Krups GVX2 Electric Burr Grinder

There was a time when a "brand name" actually meant something - I am convinced that now, however, everything is basically made in one big factory in China, and it's all junk. I bought this burr grinder because it was Krups -- Krups has always been my coffee accessory brand of choice, and the Krups handheld blade style herb/coffee grinder that I've owned and used daily for almost 15 years still works as beautifully as it did the day I bought it. Having recently acquired a proper roaster for roasting my own coffee beans at home (yes, I'm that kind of coffee person), I thought it would be a good time to splurge on a burr-style grinder as well. Krups was the natural choice, and while it looked like a decent device, this grinder just doesn't deliver as it should - there's a real inconsistency at work here, and while that trait may be forgivable in other devices, its a fatal flaw in a coffee grinder. There's no option for a "2.5" stars here, so I went up to 3, but know that this certainly...
...

anchca says "Not as good as we had hoped." about Krups GVX2 Electric Burr Grinder

This grinder was a disappointment. While it grinds the coffee with less heat than a traditional blade grinder and can produce a fine grind, it also produces a lot of dust to go along with it. (In fact this grinder seemed to crush/smash the beans more than grind them. Imagine crushing or smashing the beans with a hammer or rock and the dust that would create...) This dust can give your coffee a bitter taste. So, while you may have read, as I did, that a burr grinder will get you closer to an amazing cup of coffee or espresso, I would not recommend this particular burr grinder for that job. I am on a quest for espresso or coffee as I tasted it in Italy. The more research I do I find that it is all about the grinder and this one just did not produce the kind of cup I was looking for. I am now saving towards a really nice conical burr grinder and I will be doing my research before I purchase another one. I did not do enough research before purchasing the Krups burr grinder......

angel28960 says "Not worth the money -- only semi-functional." about Krups GVX2 Electric Burr Grinder

The first time I used this grinder, I turned the handle to "medium" grind for 10 cups. I actually got very fine, espresso-style grind for 2 cups and then it jammed. I had to dump all of the beans out and pour them back in, but it still gave me very fine grind and only a few cups worth before jamming again.

I took it back and got another of the exact same model, thinking it was a fluke. Wrong. The second one does the same thing. I have the lever turned to the coarsest grind and the max. number of cups, and I just pound it whenever it jams.

I recently tried to grind my herbs with it, and since I like them to be very fine, it worked well. However, $70 is a bit much to spend on a herb-grinder/irregular coffee grinder.
...
