I never thought I would own a Kirby due to the price. However there are many good used ones out there. I bought the Heritage II model 2HD and later found a G5. There was not a need in the world to replace the workhorse 2HD. I just wanted one with all the attachments. My 2HD came very low prices without attachments and the G5 had them all and very very resonably priced.

As stated someplace these vacuums SUCK!!! Really! I never used such a powerful vacuum except for my large Fine shopvac and I'll put the Kirby's power up against that. In a small house in less than 10 years I went through 3 el cheapo quality Hoover, Bissell & even Electrolux junk. None held up. None were good quality and all there were plastic junk. I learned many years ago while working for Sears on the plastic Kenmores. Plastic vacuums are cheap junk. I'll never own another one as long as there are good used mande in OHIO, U.S.A. metal Kirby vacuums around. Replacement parts if needed are very plentiful...

I have a Kirby G5, a replacement for a Kirby G3. I wouldn't have purchased the G5 if not for the great job the G3 did. I didn't get rid of the G3, I use it now for cleaning my rentals and it still works great! Kirbys are fairly expensive but you can't beat them for doing a thorough cleaning job. The list of attachements that come with them or can be purchased separately is almost endless. I love the fact that it has a forward, reverse and neutral transmission. It's designed to do all levels of floors and the button is foot-operated so I don't have to bend over to adjust it. The biggest drawback is its weight, Kirbys are notoriously heavy.

I also like the fact it has a HEPA filter (Micron Magic HEPA filtration) and it picks up everything along the edges of the walls. I can also use it with the attachments to shampoo the carpet or upholstery, hook up the hose to clean out the car or stairs and remove the handle to use the main machine as a hand-held vac. I won't buy...

Please help me expose the so-called salespeople from Great Southern Distributing, out of Tuscaloosa, AL. They are targeting homes in our county, claiming to be selling Kirby Vacuums. This is a three-person team that after verification, does work for the GSD. They are representing themselves as either college students, or disabled vets, in order for the person at the home to feel sorry for them and allow them to "demonstrate" the Kirby Vacuum. After the seemingly-sweet young "college student" gives her spill about how she will get credit for the visit even if you do not buy anything, and it pays her tuition to school, she sends in a sales person to demonstrate the devise. After the brief demo, she comes back in and "closes the deal". They first ask upwards of $2400 for their super vacuum. Then, when people say no, they suddenly give the sad story that they will not get their bonus if they don't sell two more before the end of the week, so they drop the price to $1500. They...

All too often Kirby gets a bad rap, until you ask an owner.

In the 20 plus years that I have owned and operated Kirby vacuums I have found them extremely well built and reliable. These products will literally last a lifetime. With parts readily available even the unskilled will find it easy to fix if the need ever arises.

Most complaints that I have encountered regarding unsatisfactory carpet cleaning or diminished suction can be alleviated by setting the brush at the correct height. Having a fresh hypoallergenic bag and making sure that the airways are unobstructed.

With the powered unit it is a delight to operate easily gliding over the most difficult surfaces. Efficiently cleaning deep down in the pile. Kirby uses the weight of the product to its ultimate advantage creating an unequaled cleaning machine.

The varied attachments can easily be put into action to clean vehicle interiors, stairs and drapery. This machine is truly the only vacuum one would ever need.

I purchased the Kirby G5 after a in-home demonstration. This was a pricey vacuum but I was sold when they talked about the lifetime warranty....Well, it broke and I can't find anyone to fix it locally. There is a dealer and repairman in another city but I will have to pay for parts and labor - what about that Lifetime warranty??? I did some research after the switch went out and discovered that it is a common occurance to have trouble getting it fixed if it breaks. Also this machine is very, very heavy, I got to the point that I dreaded gettting it out. Fooling with changing the bags, yuck, also bags not found locally, have to order or stock up while in a city where they are available. I had always thought at least it was a quality vacuum that cleaned well. Changed my mind when I purchased a replacement vacuum while trying to decide if worth the expense to fix the Kirby, I was blown away by the amount of dirt the replacement pulled out of rugs. We have the Kirby Vacumm G5 and I think it is great, it also has great accessories.

The only issue I have is that it puts out an oder, we have friends that had the same issue with thiers. We spray Febreeze on the bag before we vacuum and it is fine.

True story: A Kirby rep went by my ex-husband's home to do a demo. Halfway through the spiel he realized that I already own one. He asked if I still have it. He wanted to trade my G5 model for the newest version and offered me to let me borrow his 'new one' whenever I wanted in the future.

He is still waiting on that new one!.

We have had the Kirby G5 for about 5 years now. It is a great vacuum for cleaning power. It has tons of attachments that help you clean all types of surfaces-from your carpet and hardwood floors to your drapes while they are hanging. The worst thing is that it is so heavy! I have a hard time lugging the thing up stairs to vacuum the bedrooms! If it were lighter it would be perfect, but the weight has caused me to have to go buy a second vacuum just to cover both floors of my house...and when the basement is finished I'll probably need a third!

This is the most expensive waste of money that I have ever had. The vaccum is too bulky and inconvenient to use. It does do a good job cleaning, but after using it you have had a complete workout. It is not very user friendly. This must be turned, that must be latched, the bag must be in place, etc etc etd....

I had a salesperson come to demo the newest model, and the ONLY difference are the new hepa-bags. Guess what, they fit mine too, so no need to upgrade the vac, just buy the new bags... yahooooo !!!...

My family has owned Kirby's for close to 50 years and there's a reason why. These vacuum cleaners are trojan horses. They just don't quit. All metal parts mean it can suck up a penny without blowing a whole through the motor housing. (Try that with your Eureka or Bissel) They've added the self-propelled motor so now you can ask your kids to help you clean around the house. I used mine at least once a day and only traded it in for a newer model. I've used the Dyson and let's say it sucks, but not as good as the Kirby. :)...

We love the Kirby for the versatility of everything that comes with it. I'm sure there's nothing you can't do with it. It deep cleans every time you vacuum, cleans the air, and can clean anything imaginable.
It's a great investment of money....
