All Kirby vacuums are a horrible scam. They claim to have awesome warranties, yet to get the outrageously priced vacuum fixed costs as much as replacing it with an efficient vacuum. DON'T fall into the scam.
...

My mother-in-law told me she was fed-exing her old Kirby vacuum to us. Why would i want an old vacuum cleaner??? All I can say now is that its the best gift i have ever received!!! I have never used a vacuum with the power of a kirby. we have had it for over two years now, and never have to buy bags. You just empty it from the bottom and there is a 'scraper' to scrape the bag clean. I finally learned how to use the attachments, and it really makes couches and chairs look new and fresh. We had to buy a new belt, and i was cringing at thinking how much it would cost, but it was only $3.25!!! There are a lot of other features i have yet to utilize. The attachments pick up dirt better than any broom for my tile floors. The long cord allows me to get into all crevices. The attachments are long enough for me to pull up dirt in any location. I also am able to bring the vacuum to the garage and vacuum both cars, which also does a good job. I hope to keep this vacuum for a LONG TIME. I love it!
...

My Kirby is a hand-me-down from my brother. I don't know how old it is, but by the looks of it (gray), it's several years old. Kirby is heavy -- no doubt -- but he is the best doggone vacuum cleaner! He sucks up everything!!! And I'm always satisfied with the results. :]
...

Kirby is the best vacuum I have ever used. It is a bit heavy but it is also self-propelled, both forwards and backwards. Bags are about $2 a piece but are quite large and have micro filtration. I bought mine on Craigslist for $100 and it had all the accessories including the zipbrush which is excellent at pet hair removal on upholstery. I have used the carpet shampooer and the carpet is dry in 2 hours NOT 2 days. My mother in law has her Kirby now for over 30 years and it still runs! HIGHLY recommend.
...

jillian32311 says "Solid, old-fashioned sweeper built to WORK and LAST" about Kirby Vacuum - G4

I got my Kirby from my mother, who fell for the sales pitch from the "nice young man" who showed up at her door one morning. Turns out it was too much vacuum for her; the machine is heavy, and she lives in a tiny little house that's packed with furniture. I traded her my little light plastic Panasonic, and now we're both happy. The major downside of the Kirby is that it's heavy. Heavy, heavy. But it's built to last, and there aren't many appliances nowadays that can claim that. The Kirby does a fabulous job as a vacuum, plus it's got lots of fun attachments if you've got the time and patience to sit down with all the parts and the manual. The carpet shampooer does a great job and it's a lot easier to deal with this than to go to the store, rent one of the machines, lug it around, and have to get it back on time. This is a good vacuum for a man, too. I lent my Kirby to a friend for awhile when he was first on his own, and he loved it. The self-propulsion feature is not only helpful, but......

cassandrat2001 says "this vacuum sucks!" about Kirby Vacuum - G4

I have a Kirby G4. I have had it about a year and I like it. I actually got it for free from a friend who was getting rid of it. It has very strong suction and does a great job on edges against a wall or whatever. Also, it is self propelled so the fact that it's so heavy doesn't matter as much. I still usually push it anyway because it seems to do a better job though. It has a headlight on the front which is ok I guess, if you like to vacuum in the dark lol The only things I don't like is that it is so big and bulky, it can be hard to carry around if you have back problems or anything. Also it doesn't fit well in tight spaces, under beds, etc because of the size. And the parts are expensive. Overall though, I've been happy with it because the suction is good and it does such a good job on edges, so I don't have to use a hose attachment or anything. Speaking of which, it doesn't have onboard attachments. To use an attachment, you have to actually flip open the front of the vacuum and......

This vacuum is amazing! It picks up everything but paperclips and its very easy to push. It has a carpet shampooer which is also amazing, and works better than expensive carpet cleaning companies! I also blew up an air matress and a swimming pool with my vacuum. The only bad thing about this sweeper is that it is extremely heavy and my wife is unable to carry it up the stairs. Overall, kirby is a great sweeper, and I'll never go back to a cheap vacuum!...

My Kirby G4 is at least 10 years old, and although it may be built like a Sherman tank, it just keeps on sucking! Wouldn't trade it for any that I've seen yet! In the past 10 or so years, I've replaced the belt a few times, and the wheels once...other than that, it's been pretty much maintenance free...and I use it very regularly. I have no complaints. It's been extremely reliable. I even use it to vacuum my gararge!...

I used to have a hard time telling door to door sales people no so obviously I bought the Kirby G4. It was about 10 or 11 years ago and it was about $1200 I believe. We made payments on it and eventually paid it off. For a while I thought I made a bad decision in paying so much for a vacuum. But about a year ago the fan housing unit busted because my kids thought it would pick of everything (which it basically does but over time it realizes it is being abused lol). I borrowed a friend's vacuum and it picks up NOTHING compared to the Kirby! I couldn't afford to get it fixed for a while so I suffered using the "other" and luckily we had taken out our carpet in most of the house.

Just a few days ago I took it to be repaired (a place I would NOT recommend- Kirby Company of Port Huron, MI). I paid $88.00 to have it repaired and the first thing I did was vacuum and loved it. It was so worth it!

So, if you ever wonder what the big deal is.... try your vacuum and then try Kirby!
...

The kirby vacuum is a very heavy machine but that makes it very durable. Not the most user friendly machine but it does a great job picking up the dirt.Once you know how to do the maintaince on the vac it really is a good machine. The only vac I've ever owned that picks of sand like cat litter without sand blasting you as it spits it out the back of the machine. The drive assist does help with the weight and manuvering....
