Kenmore Refrigerator - Top Mount with Icemaker

Icemaker died a few days after warranty expired -

the refrigerator died after only 4 years of service. My thinking is that it certainly should last

a heck of a lot longer and when I contacted Sears in Hoffman Estates, IL their attitude was

"Oh well".
...

RLowe57 says "Sears has more interst in the sale than selling the right produc" about Kenmore Refrigerator - Elite Top Mount

With all the new regulations and Sears now fighting for every customer I have now found that Sears is more interested in a slae than selling the proper product for the application. Our experience with a refrigerator is almost beyond belief.

In a quick overview we're on replacement number 4. After many conversations with Sears I believe the machine in use is still not the correct one for the application. The biggest application issue is that the machine is being used in a lake house that is not cooled in the summer and is only heated some week ends in the winter. The machine os designed not to work in temperatures below 50F or above 90F. Unfortunatly, this was never told to us and now we have a refrigerator that will be used sparingly as I can't afford to run the risk of the machine going into failure mode.

So anyone who wants to buy a refrigerator for garage, cellar, or outdoor use and you live in a climate with seasons, buyer beware as Sears will not share with you any equipment limitations...
...

My Kenmore is a brand that I trust explicitly. My refrigerator is modern and fits in with my kitchen very well. The shelves are glass so I can see all the items in the fridge. The shelves have spill containment which really makes cleanup easy. The door compartments are roomy and well spaced. It has two moisture adjustable vegetable bins that make it real easy to maintain freshness. I have had very good service and function with my Kenmore....

I was used to the refrigerator that came with the house and when I had to get a new one this new Kenmore seemed to be huge. When actually the old refrigerator was bigger in size. The inside seems to have much more interior room. All the inside bins are clear so this makes for easier identification of what is needed when going to the market....

ferrarro says "Buy it before they sell them all" about Kenmore Refrigerator - Elite Top Mount

I have an old Kenmore refrigerator that must be at least 20 years old. It is still running well. If anything ever happens to it I intend to buy another Kenmore and no other brand. The handle came off and I put another one on it but not one like the original one so it does look funny. The freezer part is pretty small but I have a freezer in the garage so I put the extra things in it. This refrigerator has been through several families and does have some rusty spots on the outside and some blue paint where I painted the kitchen without moving it but all in all it does the job it was intended to do. The shelves are glass and I like that much better than the plastic they are using today. The vegetable shelves in the bottom are very sturdy and hold a lot of things. I do not have a photo of my refrigerator but if Sears would give me a new one I would allow then to come to my home and take photos of the old one and then the new one in it's place. Who said there is no free lunch? Not me....

LibbyMcMillan says "Icemaker conked out in 3 years" about Kenmore Refrigerator - Elite Top Mount

click-clickety-clickety-clickety-click
After 4 years the icemaker in our fridge started making an irritating noise so loud you could hear it in the next room. We turned it off, but guess what? It kept on making the noise. We were stumped and went online to learn how to dismantle the entire thing. Now our house is quiet again, but we have no icemaker unless we call Sears to fix the darn thing. I don't think this is normal for a 4-year-old appliance, do you?

I might give Kenmore more credit but we've also had terrible problems with our washing machine (rusted in 3 years), our stove (broiler stopped working in 3 years) and our dishwasher (takes TWO HOURS and dishes aren't always clean).

Our house was a new model home when we bought it in 2004, in case you're wondering. The builder obviously went low-end on appliances. Buyer beware when it comes to Kenmore's less costly appliances!

The Bottom Line: Libby's Leery
...
