This refrigerator is a piece of crap. I spent a lot of money and wanted the best, instead I got a piece of garbage. The cabinet after owning this model a year and half is cracking due to a known defect from construction by the manufacturer. Sears has a system that they have developed to fix it. They send you a box with a white sheet of plastic in it aong with another box with loctite epoxy. They expect to glue it on and this is their cheap quick fix. I have spent days fighting with them over the phone after I had purchased a warranty for this item. I was told by a service person that this is a know defect for this model. Other than that this refrigerator has been a service nightmare. I will be in small claims court with Sears tomorrow.

I met with Sears in small claims Court in Oneida County, New York. I won the case and judgement was awarded to me for the reasons that the judge did not believe that a piece of plastic sheeting and epoxy was an acceptable fix by sears for...

This model (Sears Kemore Elite Side-by-Side Refrigerator Model #54783801) has two major flaws including a serious manufacturing defect inside the doors that cannot be fixed. We are on our way to having Sears replace this again (this will be the third of this model!). The fridge creates condensation on the outside of the doors that will eventually lead to mold. These refrigerators cannot be repaired if they have this problem. They have to be replaced.

Also, the ice maker has serious issues: ice sprays all over the kitchen when dispensed, even when holding a glass flush against dispenser. We have to mop up after every ice dispensing, and have resorted to just opening the freezer door and scooping it out. Ice also sticks in the dispenser, then melts and then falls all over the floor -- or next time you dispense ice, you get a half glass of water before the ice comes out. A myriad of problems that should not occur with a refrigerator at this price.

I purchased my Kenmore refrigerator from Sears Outlet. My reason for doing so was to get a nice appliance without going into debt. This has truly worked out for me...a win-win situation. You would think, I'm not used to having nice things, in that, this is not the case. What I'm excited about is, I was able to pay for it without making monthly payments.

This refrigerator is sleek and elegant looking, it brings that extra attraction to my kitchen. I have the exterior ice and water compartment built in the door. I have the temp controlled meat, fruit and vegetable bins... which works great. I'm very satisfied with it. Although, I did not pay the full retail value, for this appliance, it is not labled as being cheap.

I do recommend, anyone who's looking for good quality in their appliances, to shop at Sears, they do stand behind their merchandise. Most outlet stores have products that are good but not quite perfect enough to be sold in the regular department...

Purchased energy star side by side Coldspot Kenmore Elite based on reviews and cubic feet storage, as well as nifty features like ice and water dispenser. (new in 2002) Okay, this fridge has problems. Random problems. Unpredicatable problems. Sometimes, the meat or produce is frozen SOLID. A week or two later, the same foods will be warm and spoiled. I simply don't get it. Calling the service people was no help. As long as the freezer is working (and it always has) they claim it is a blocked vent or something...which it isn't. So, no "fixable" or "diagnosable" problem, just a fridge that screws with your brain, or with your next dinner party.

Also, I never use the filtered water from the door. Why, you ask???? Well, it takes around two or three minutes to fill that glass with the slooooooow filtered water dribble. Why bother? Just go for the tap again.

I can't wait to get this expensive mistake out of my home. But it hasn't had a "major mechanical failure" to justify...

My Kenmore Elite refrigerator had to be repaired within 2 years of purchase. We had a warranty & the repair was covered. The repair man told me that they have a lot of trouble with them. I can't remember what went the actual part needing replacement was, but the side wall started heating. When the repair man got to the house & I told him what the problem was, he acted like I was over-reacting & said they all get warm. It was so hot he couldn't keep his hand on it.

In addition to this, after 3 years something else broke & we lost a freezer & refrigerator full of food. Everything defrosted & was room temperature. At first we thought there was something wrong with the ice dispenser because water was dripping from it. Nice. Thanks again, Sears!

Sears Kenmore Elite Side by side model 5478. Not a bad refrigerator, but the ice maker will dump ice on you or down in the freezer if you open the door during its "harvest" mode. Happened twice in a month. Tech says that is the way it is. Also dispenses about 1/8 cup of water ahead of ice if you use the shaved ice setting. The shaving melt in the chute after you use it and then you get some water with the next batch. Tech says that's the way it is. Two design flaws in a $2,000 Kenmore. I am shopping for something better, but when I read what is on consumeraffairs.com in the complaints section I am just horrified. The Maytag/Whirlpool store said to research Samsung (which looked good to me) and people have terrible things to say about them. However, the Maytag guy should have held his tongue because they just recalled 1.6 million fridges where the compressor relay can set the thing ON FIRE! How cool is that for a fridge? It looks like there is no such thing as consistent...

I bought a very expensive Kenmore Elite side-by-side refrigerator-for $2,999.00. Within months the part that brings the cold air from the freezer to the refrigerator had gone out. It was replaced by Sears because the refrigerator was still under warranty, but they offered no apology or replacement of the food that had to be thrown away. After my warranty was over I had at least one to two repairs a year- one of which occurred on the 4th of July when I had a houseful of guests and a refrigerator filled with food that I had prepared for a party. The repair person couldn't come for 12 days and no sympathy was given for my situation. At this point I have spent $700.00 for warranties because I know that twice a year this refrigerator will need repair service. Poor customer service and a very poor appliance have caused me to never consider any Kenmore appliance again.

After owning this refrigerator for four years, the icemaker quit working. Turns out it is a sensor that appears to go out quite often. Cost: almost 100.00 plus labor. Six months later, the freezer begins to freeze over, leak on the floor and heat up the refrigerator side, spoiling everything inside. After hours of defrosting, cleaning and clearing the drain line, days later it is back to the same tricks again. Now we are told it is either the defrost timer or lack of freon, both will cost more than I am willing to spend. I always thought Kenmore was a great brand but after loosing 2000+ on this refrigerator and another 900 on my Kenmore dishwasher, I will never purchase another....

The Kenmore Elite side by side is a good product overall. It has a good energy rating and has made a difference in my home. I am able to clean much easier due to the slide out shelving. The only cons are that the water filter does not last as long as hoped and the shelving placement could be better.

I love this Kenmore Refrigerator! I chose the satin finish and what an excellent choice. This finish is so great. It doesn't show finger prints. A damp rag cleans anything else that may have gotten on it. Inside everything is accessible and stays so fresh. The shelves wipe off so easily and adjust simply to fit any unusual size. I shopped around a lot before choosing this one and have no doubt I made the right decision.

I love our Kenmore Elite side by side refrigerator! Since owing it we continue to find new ways to organize and fit more things in the fridge and freezer. The awesome idea of installing the ice bin in the door in ingenious....this allows for even more storage. The ice and water dispenser has made my kids love to drink water. They can do it themselves and it is fun. Well worth the money and being an Energy-Star appliance we are saving in utilities costs as well!! Our last fridge came with the house we purchased and I almost think that it was the same age as are home. It was making noises and ready to go out so we are so happy with our newest purchase....

I purchased a Kenmore Elite Side by Side in July 2006. The refrigerator is 2 years, 2 months and 8 days old. The interior right wall has micro cracks down the side. It is not because of cleaning process. I use dishwashing soap and wash clothe. I know it is a material defect for I have in my garage a 19 year old Whirlpool that does not have cracks anywhere in interior walls. I contacted Sears to repair. They sent out an Epoxy kit to repair. Which will yellow after probably the warranty runs out. I want my refrigerator to look new so I can sell it with my house. Sears refuses to replace interior skin. Where is the quality? What about backing and guaranteeing your product. I have been fighting Kenmore and Sears for 2 months now. All I want is a product to last. Disgusted and Dissappointed...
