I would go and push every vacuum (more than a few minutes) around the store! Heavy vaccums are impossible for continual use! I found Kenmores to be the heaviest and do not try and pick them up for another floor. Forget it!
...

I've had my Kenmore Progressive Upright for 5 years, and it still works very well. It continues to suck up the dirt, and with the hepa filter, I feel as if the air is even cleaner. Prior to this purchase, I was buying cheaper vacuums that I'd have to replace every couple years. The great thing about this product, is that the price is pretty reasonable, (at least compared to a Kirby or a Dyson). I've very satisfied with the way it cleans, esp. since it has the Intelliclean feature, which I use every now and then. The only problem I had with it, was when I accidentally vacuum a nectarine seed hidden somewhere in the dark crevices behind the couch. (My daughter loves her stone fruits.) I didn't know that's the reason it stopped working until I took it to Sears to have it fixed under their warrantly plan. Speaking of which, Sears has been pretty good at fixing or replacing items for me when I bring them in - So I recommend getting the warranty plan, too.
...

kenfixer says "hard to get at guts to fix, tacked together" about Kenmore Progressive Upright Vacuum

Overloadswitch went bad on the kenmore 36832 so I had to take out 18 screws and pry apart 3 plastic parts to get at it. While doing this nothing hold the guts together and the main motor is plastic taped together, no screws or bold just black plastic tape.

The try to get this POS back together. I remember taking apart my hoover and the solid construction always impressed me

My wife got taken in by the kenmore bells and whistles. $300 buck and its broke in less than a year.
...

i742962i says "Best vacuum I ever owned for carpet and hard floors!" about Kenmore Progressive Upright Vacuum

I have the kenmore progressive bag vacuum. Everyone said to get a canister vacuum but I have had them and would rather this one. I don't like that I can only find the bags at sears but I have never had a problem when I go to get them. They are always in stock. I use it everyday and sometimes several times a day. It picks up and sucks and anything and everything. There is a little filter under the bag that I take outside and whack the dust out of to make sure it doesn't get clogged or anything. The cord is perfectly long enough to reach all the way up the step and into another room from downstairs. It is not super light and not heavy but I think the little bit of weight it does have helps spin the dirt up that is ground in the carpet. The light on the front is so handy. Changing bags is a snap. Overall performance is fabulous on hard floors. I have tile floors w/kids and it sucks up every crumb. Only suggestion I would make is to make sure it is on bare floor setting before using the hose...
...

pcrhimer says "Couldn't hate this vacuum cleaner more..." about Kenmore Progressive Upright Vacuum

I absolutely hate this vacuum cleaner, and am so sorry I spent the money!

First of all, it is so stinking heavy it's not even funny. Both my 15 year old son and myself have both almost tripped trying to lug this thing up the stairs. It is ridiculous. Being an ex-Oreck owner, I miss my Oreck so much it's not even funny (unfortunately, I lost it to my husband in the divorce - and yes, we actually fought over the Oreck!).

Second, it does a terrible job adjusting to higher-pile rugs, versus medium, versus floors. The switch does not work properly, and because it doesn't change correctly, I have times where the thing is impossible to move on a flat carpet.

Third - it is absolutely horrible at suck up stuff on a bare floor (hardwood or tile). It just throws everything all over the place. I guess there is such a thing as TOO much power.

Finally, it does not do a good job at vacuuming along edges/trim. I find myself banging up against my moldings trying to get the dirt. I...
...

I have had my Kenmore Progressive for about 10 years and love it. I have never had a problem with it. It picks up dirt well from carpet as well as hardwood floors. I really love the attachments. The hose can detach and become a handheld wand with great reach. I have the extra long hose attachment so I can reach lots of area without moving the vacuum itself. All attachments except the extra long hose fits on the vacuum itself. I guess it is nice that there is the HEPA filter, but I don't appreciate the cost of replacing the filter. The filter and the bags are easy to change. It is adjustable for different height carpets as well as barewood floors. The one negative is that it is heavy and a little akward to carry on stairs. My home is three levels, so I often have to carry it from one floor to the other. Other than that I highly recommend this vacuum cleaner. It is great for vacuuming as well as dusting, especially hard to reach places.
...

I bought this vacum a few years ago. This was my first purcahse as my parents always bought my vaccums for Christmas. I spent a lot of time in Sears using all of the vaccums and I think the sales person thought I was a freak. I finally settled on this vaccum. I now have 2 cats and a dog and what a difference. It picks up the hair and the carpet looks great. The only caution is make sure you get the cannister in secure, otherwise the suction stinks.
...

I had another kenmore progressive that i bought 10+ years ago, it was slate blue like this one and the greatest vacuum of all time. So when it came time to replace it, I knew I would buy the same vacuum only new and improved. Boy was I was wrong. This vacuum is terrible, its heavy, its smelly, we hate it soooo much we will never buy another item from sears. Thanks....

somib says "Great except for Handi_Mate air powered hand tool." about Kenmore Progressive Upright Vacuum

Like many others, I am very unhappy with the Handi_Mate JR powered hand tool that is included with the Kenmore Progressive Direct Drive Vacuum. The Handi-Mate tool is very flimsy and Sears does not sell a replacement belt . It sometimes binds and does not clean very well. I solved this problem by substituting an available Hoover powered hand tool (obtained from my previous vacuum, which was a Hoover WindTunnel). To make this fit the extension hose end, I made an adaptor from a short piece of hose and clamped one end of the hose to the Hoover powered hand tool. The other end of the hose fits easily over the extension hose end. The Hoover powered hand tool is extremely well made, does not bind and is easily serviced by the owner. Unlike the Kenmore, it has a replaceable belt. Furthermore, it cleans about twice as fast as the Kenmore.

...

Love my Kenmore Progressive vacuum! It's top-rated, and I agree with that rating. It cleans all types of surfaces, unlike my old vacuum that only cleaned carpet, not delicate rugs or wood floors. It's filter is great at keeping the dust out of the air, too. ...

Hands down, this vacuum is amazing. We absolutely love the dirt sensor that tells us how much dirt its pulling out of the carpets. When we were looking for a new vac we saw that Consumer Reports rates this a #1 best buy and we are so glad we bought it -- we couldn't believe how bad our old vac was until we plugged this guy in!

The best feature, hands down, is the intelli-sense cleaning mode that adjusts the speed of the vac depending on how dirty the carpets are. You may THINK you have cleaned the carpets, but you would be surprised at how much dirt is hiding down in the fibers. This guy works to get all that dirt out and you know it's done when the light turns green!

Another great feature is the direct drive system -- which means no belts to break, burn and have to replace.

Highly recommend this vacuum; good quality, good features and a name you can trust.
...

I've had my Kenmore Upright vaccuum for a little over 6 years.I've tried all of the "Dirt-Devils" and 1 Kirby and 1 rainbow, but this vaccuum has been my favorite, because it's the best on the market for me.It wasn't cheap, but compared to Kirby,Dysart and Rainbow,it's a lot better value for the buck.

It has a very strong motor, but is very quiet for a 12.0 horsepower.I was surprised at it's suction strength. You have to pick up items like toys and coins out of the carpet, otherwise it picks them up for you.It will even vaccuum up nickels, that's extreme power for you.Mine is over 6 years old and works as well as it did the day we bought it.

I have no REGRETS over this purchase, never have had and probably never will, after all of these 6 years of daily work, pet hair (2 german shepherds),gravel and dirt.I RECOMMEND it to everyone,I've even lent it to neighbors' to prove it's durability and dependability.

...
