2nd day we owned this refrigerator the water pump failed and our hardwoods had to be replaced and basement celing fixed. 2.5 years later it caught on fire (light casing melted and burned, causing food to be spoiled and light wiring to catch on fire). Toxic smelling fumes permeated refrigerator and kitchen for days. We have had ongoing problems with the refrigerator, to include plastic parts randomly coming off of it (and we have no idea what they do), ice spilling out everytime the freezer is opened, freezer partially defrosting and then freezing up, causing ice crystals to be formed all over food, bin on one side of freezer cracked and only light items can be placed on that side....and of course Sears customer service is awful, to say the least. Horrible customer service until I researched fire issue on line and found out that it is a common problem with this refrigerator. Found a phone number with a service flash (sears terminology) associated with the problem and finally found...
...

DafneeDeFrias says "Worst buy ever!" about Kenmore Elite Trio

Let me say that it was love at first sight, until I had to replace the motor (generator) and the motor fan at two different occasions. Plus my deli drawer already broke. My veggies get frozen, and no matter how much I try to set the temperature it is never right!

My freezer drawer can hardly be opened, because there is always ice on the rails, and when you finally get it open some ice cubes fall on the floor.

I'm not sure why the light of the refrigerator is always hot, and the side of one of the doors.

I bought my Kenmore at Sears in Miami, Fl. I live in Dominican Republic so I shipped it to my country hoping that it wouldn't give us any trouble at all! So I had no guarantees at all! I had to fix it using local services, hopefully I was able to get some of the parts, but I had to throw away a lot for good foods every time I had problems with it.

So far not a very good choice!

I may recommend the design , having a bottom freezer sure gets your life easier,...
...

NewHomeOwner says "Frost, frost, and more frost!" about Kenmore Elite Trio

We bought the Kenmore Elite Trio model 795.7978 on July 2009 (right after we purchased our home). It was supposed to be the latest and greatest so we paid the high price thinking we were going to be trouble free. So far we have made two calls to service as the freezer (bottom left hand side as you are looking at it) continues to make so much frost and accumulate ice on the rail - this is so unreal.

The first time the repair person came and used a hairdryer to melt the ice and said that should fix it - I could have done that! And NO! It did not fix it. The second time - well the tech has not been to our home yet as they scheduled us all the way to the middle of November, in the meantime, I guess we will have to deal with the frost.

Oh, the vegetable bin is really not that great. Vegetables do not stay fresh and crisp at they say they will. Very disappointed.
...

Purchased Kenmore Elite purchase on Oct 2006. Loved the layout and room. But his month Sept 2009 woke up to light on in the refrigerator with housing melted and sagging. Additionally there was bubbled plastic and browning. All food lossed. We feel fortunate that that we were at home and that our house did not catch on fire.
...

We have the same problem with the lights staying on when the doors are closed. Sears is no help. They have quite the scam going - sell defective appliances at a premium price and then get more money in either extended warranties or service calls. I just took the lights out and now every time we open the doors to a dark refrigerator it is a reminder of why Sears will never again get any more money from us....

indigoponds says "Fire Hazard" about Kenmore Elite Trio

We have owned the Kenmore Elite Trio for less than three years. While still under warranty we had problems with a mildew taste coming from the waterline. They said it was the water filter and to replace it. We did and it didn't help so I called back. We were now a few days out of warranty therefore they wouldn't help. Great service! We have also had problems with the handles continuously loosening and a bin with a broken latch. BUT the worst problem is occurring now. Sometimes the interior light does not shut off and not only does it cause excessive heat (food loss) but it has also melted the interior surface and the brackets that hold the plastic protection cover in place. The wiring is brown which indicates a potential for a fire! I am learning that others have had this problem but Sears does not recognize this.

Here is the bottom line: I am spending $250 to have them come out and repair it which includes a 1 year warranty. That's all fine and good, HOWEVER...
...

My husband and I were in the market for new kitchen appliances for our new remodeling project. We looked at several other refrigerators and found that all the fridges in a french door, bottom freezer style lacked adequate space. We stumbled on to the Kenmore Elite Trio and were amazed. The layout of the fridge was perfect. It had adjustable sliding shelves (even one that was retractable to allow for taller items). It includes 3 drawers, one of which is long and narrow, perfect for trays that I could never find a place for. The lighting is a soft blue, and is recessed to allow for the best utilization of space. The freezer is a bottom pull out drawer with a deep bin. There is also a sliding basket in the freezer. All of these are easily removable for cleaning. There is a filtered water dispenser and ice maker through the door, with the temp controls located on it. This is a great fridge and very much worth the money!
...

We purchase the Kenmore Eilte (model 795.77252600) in Aug 2006. Less than 2yrs later, it malfunctioned. The door sensors and lighting unit malfunctioned (almost caused a fire). The cover housing the light bulbs melted due to the light not turning off after doors were closed. Sears repaired it..for about $700. It's been less than a year and we can't believe we're dealing with the same problem today. I called Sears to check if there was a recall on these parts but they were no help. I can't believe a fridge in this price range would have such poor design or manufacturing. I am so disappointed in Sears!
...

I purchased a Kenmore Elite Trio refrigerator (model 795.7725)in December 2006. On Saturday, February 7, 2009, I opened my refrigerator door and noticed that the plastic casing around the light bulb was melted and sagging, the fridge was warm and the items on the top shelf were also starting to melt. My husband and I determined that the light bulbs were not shutting off when the doors were closed. After finally removing the light bulbs with an oven mitt we discovered that the area around the light bulbs were brown from the excessive heat. I'm thankful that I was home that day because I truly believe that my fridge and house could have caught fire.

After doing an internet search, I found that this is a common problem with the model however Sears is doing very little to help. I made calls to the service department, warranty department and recall department and was informed that I could pay for this fix because it hasn't been recalled and it was out of warranty. I politely declined. I then...
...

Kenmore Elite Trio Refrigerator

We've had our Kenmore Elite Trio Refrigerator for 5 years now and we're still convinced that it was a great investment. This refrigerator is so roomy and has so many compartments and adjustments that make it not only easy to store lots of foods but also to see them.

We cook and eat mostly at home so our refrigerator stays stocked. The challenge with a full refrigerator is generally storage and being able to see everything. I hate to waste food so the Kenmore Elite Trio is perfect for us because there is a tailor made spot for everything.

My Favorite Features of the Kenmore Elite Trio:

I really love having the bi fold doors that give me two open sides that hold lots of beverages, dressings and condiments. The bottom shallow drawer is huge and pulls out all the way to hold and make all of our cheeses, meats, yogurts and so on easily accessible. This drawer will easily hold pizza boxes. The bottom freezer, which takes up about a third of the size of......

We just received our Kenmore Elite Trio. The Trio has a lot of room in the refrigerator and the freezer, much more the our side by side. It looks great, but now we have to replace our stove and dishwasher because they are not stainless. I love the product, but find it hard to keep the stainless clean. Of coarse I have three children under seven years old. I notice its hard to open the french doors, I actually move the whole appliance when I do. Overall we are happy with the appliance....

The Kenmore Elite Trio with water through the door is a great refrigerator. The bottom freezer is easy to access - great for short people like me! - and is compartmentalized which helps with finding different items. The only downside to the freezer is that if the ice container is almost full, ice cubes fall out when you open the freezer door.

Love the convenience of the french-door fridge and sliding shelves. Perfect size for our small family and for stocking up for parties! Highly recommend this over a counter-depth unit which is smaller inside.

The stainless steel front is nice looking, and easy to clean even with the inevitable finger prints from kids and when the spouse comes in from working outside!

Overall, a great value for the price.
...
