I was just searching for a camera wrap, nothing else. Then I found one that had a mini-tripod (very mini, like 1" lift) attached and thought "Hey, a tripod would be cool for vacation!" I then changed my search to mini tripods and quickly found the GorillaPod on BestBuy.com! It had many good reviews on the store's website so I ran out to get one right away. It is the coolest camera accessory ever and I cannot wait to use it on all vacations.

What is it and how does it work?
It's a tripod, of course, but it's so much more. It can be used as a regular tripod by simply spreading out it's 3 legs and aiming. However what makes it different is it's bendy! You can lean the camera forward or back to get it to aim just right at what you want. The second way it is different is that it is flexible. The legs are made up of these little balls that can be wrapped around anything smaller than the legs. Since the legs are about 5" long, that means you should be able to wrap it around anything...
...

I received this as a gift and it has turned out to be much more useful than I could have ever imagined. I love this little gadget and use it whenever I am out taking pictures. I always used to fiddle around trying to find a place to set the camera so I could use the timer feature and run in the picture. This has lead to my camera falling on the ground, not being able to find the perfect spot to put the camera and some other difficulties. This tri-pod makes it easy to set the camera just about anywhere and is very secure. It is also nice and small so it is very easy to carry around without much difficulty. It also has a great locking feature so the camera does not fall off your awkwardly positioned tri-pod. I have place it on everything from tree limbs to fences to railings, you name it I've used it. Just this past Christmas though I was out ice fishing in Canada and in the cold weather it didn't fair to well, I cracked it. But now I know I will have to be more careful......

gooru says "Convenient and Compact" about Joby - Gorillapod Outdoor Camera Tripod

When I travel, I almost always have the gorillapod in my bag rather than a full-size tripod, because I simply can't stand to carry a huge, heavy tripod. However, I still want to be able to take self-portraits, nighttime shots, long exposures, etc. As a result, I need something to hold my camera steady, and the gorillapod is perfect for this. It's compact, light, and can fit just about anywhere due to its flexibility. Plus, it really can hang anywhere. I've trusted it to hold onto my ridiculously expensive camera on bridges, rooftops, and tree branches the world over. The only downside is it lacks any sort of fine adjustments. Framing a picture when using it is really just pointing the camera in a general direction, but I can overlook this in exchange for its compactness and flexibility....

Jo says "Joby the Gorilla makes my Camera do all sorts of tricks." about Joby - Gorillapod Outdoor Camera Tripod

To the Point

My daughter, husband and I were hiking in Joshua Tree National Park http://www.viewpoints.com/Joshua-Tree-National-Park-CA-review-82cd.

My camera fell when I was trying to do a self-timer in this windy Park. For Hanukkah our daughter gave us the Joby GP1-01EN Gorillapod Flexible Tripod (Grey) and I love it.

A Closer View

This is called grey but it is actually black with gray stripes around each flexible ball. These stripes act as an additional measure of security since they are rubber like rather than slippery.

It's small and easily fits in my pocket book. I can roll it up and it measures about 2" by 2" so it's a great little gadget. The one we had was small but couldn't be bent. It is designed for cameras weighing up to 9.7 ounces.

What it's Like to Use

It's so much fun. It has a lock ring up by where it gets attached to the camera which makes sure my camera is secured. I love that I can connect a little plastic piece, which has a screw, right into my camera and leave it there.......
