sr says "A day in the life of a psychotherapist plus Hollywood drama" about In Treatment

For the most part this is a fabulous look at "a day in the life" of a psychotherapist and human psychology. I love to test my amateur therapist skills by watching the patients explain their feelings and issues and then play Gabriel Byrne's part before he can even react to the patient. Phenomenal casting, The storylines with Gina are the best. Great job Mark Walhberg as the Executive Producer. Im impressed. There is a bit of Hollywood drama invovled in some of the patients story lines that makes Peter's skills as a therapist questionable to say the least. I did not like the way he handled Laura's infatuation with him. There were zero professional ethics to that storyline! If he was such a great therapist he would have immediately recognized her infatuation with him was just a part of her illness and given her the help she needed instead of playing into her infatuation like a high school boy. Psychotherapists who abuse their power can do a lot of damage to patients who lack the......

Telpher says "I love this show so much - I NEED HELP!" about In Treatment

When I first heard about HBO's new series, In Treatment, I thought they were nuts. A show that runs every night, and consists of watching different characters in therapy sessions? I didn't think it sounded very exciting, especially as I think HBO really failed with last year's Just Tell Me You Love Me, which also revolved around characters in therapy. I didn't bother watching In Therapy for the fist few weeks. Then, one night last week, there was nothing good on television, and I noticed HBO was showing several episodes of In Therapy in a row. I figured, what the heck? I really like Gabriel Byrne, who plays the therapist, and many of the cast members (who play patients) are also actors I like: Blair Underwood, Embeth Davitz, Josh Chalres, Michelle Forbes...

So, yes, I decided to give it a try, never thinking I'd get sucked in. If anything, I was hoping the show would lull me to sleep on a night when insomnia was keeping me up. No dice! The episode I tuned into featured Embeth Davitz as Amy,...
...

As my wife will most surely attest, I will watch anything on the small screen at least once. But if it fails to entertain, the program is history. Recently HBO started airing a nightly program called In Treatment, which is based on a Israeli program utilizing the same format. In Treatment as the name implies is about a people seeing, well, a Therapist. Each night (Monday - Friday) In Treatment brings us a different patient until Friday night, when Paul (Gabriel Byrne) the Therapist himself is in therapy with his shrink Gina (Dianne Wiest).

Monday nights are devoted to Laura (Melissa George), a doctor who has been seeing Paul for a year and has just proclaimed her love for him. Tuesday nights belong to Alex (Blair Underwood) a Navy fighter pilot who is currently recovering from a heart attack and an unhealthy dose of self-doubt and loathing. Wednesday nights are filled with Sophie (Mia Wasikowska) a teenaged gymnast who may or may not have tried to commit suicide by running...
...
