I am not a great gardner by any means but impatiens are an easy flower to plant and maintain which adds beautiful color to your yard. My favorite color is a tangerine colored flower which is a mix of pink and orange and also gets alot of compliments. My mom planted them for years and now I follow in her footsteps. Adding a little miracle grow ensures a larger flower and taller plant overall. Since I have several trees in my yard it really works for me with all the shade I have. Impatiens also work in sunny areas as well as was the case in my parent's yard. I would highly recommend impatiens to others.
...

dessarose says "Impatiens are colorful and require little to no care." about Impatiens annual flowers

Hello,
I am Dessarose. I am a beginner at gardening. I have just moved from a large, busy city to the quiet, slow running country town. One of my two requirements of coming to the country was to have a beautiful garden. But, I have some draw backs to starting a garden is helpers and other problem, of which you may guess as I go along.
Now to one of the best flowers I have planted this year, thus far is the Impatiens. I got a crate of the flowers, mostly in the pinks and purples. I know now I did not buy enough to make my bed look awesome, so next year it will be fuller and more flowers everywhere. Impatiens are the sturdy and long lasting. They give the flower bed a very colorful attitude. When they were first planted I thought they were puny and wobbly. But it didn't take them long to grow into some green plants. The like a shady area, but they also like a little light, mostly morning sun.
The ground needs to be kept moist, but must have a good drainage. Remember that is you plant......

My husband has been planting impatiens every summer for the last 4 years. He didn't listen when I told him they had to be planted in shady areas and proceeded to plant many of them in full sun. He waters them daily and fertilizes them, and they thrive, spreading and blooming all summer long. We get many complements on them.

Impatiens are great because they are easy to grow, come in a wide variety of colors, and will bloom all summer.
...

Ihave planted impatiens for years in shady areas around the house, including the north side of the garage and under the overhang in front of the house. They provide great color and with a little fertilizer (like Miracle Grow) have provided mounds of color. The ones in front of the house get very little rain, so usually have to be watered every other day. The ones on the north side of the garage will get by with watering about once a week. They are sensitive to frost in the fall, but next to the house they are usually protected.

For the craft lovers, Impatien blossoms are easy to press and use for craft projects. They retain their color to some extent, becoming somewhat opaque and delicate looking. A
...

Impatiens are bautiful, this year when it was COLD & FROSTY here in North Florida, I was kind of down and I walked outside to check my plants that I had covered up to keep from the frost, as I uncovered some plants that normally the frost will kill them, I seen something Pink and I walked over to the bird bath, (which is a waterfall which flows into my pond , I seen a cluster of Pink flowers, it was a cluster of Impatiens, I am not sure how they were even alive let alone blooming. Seeing the flowers all bloomed out when it was in the 30s here . To see those pink flowers, it was so amazing that I got over being down and I took the cluster of flowers and I planted them in a small pot & took them inside out of the cold.

My review of this plant is 5 star, I highly recommend this plant, its easy to grow, and from my experience most of the time it comes back when spring is here, I have only had 1 or 2 plants that did not come back when spring got here.
...

LoveisJoy says "This Flower is Eager to Put on an Annual Show of Color" about Impatiens annual flowers

May is the perfect month to head to the nursery or home improvement stores for summer annuals to plant in my shady front border. As I pull up to the store's entrance, the sheer volume of colors, textures, and blooms of these plants never fails to excite me. Unfortunately, the most colorful plants that I ooh and aah over are meant to be planted in sunny areas. Flower choices for shady areas are very limited, but there is one reliable plant that I turn to each year - Impatiens.
Impatiens come in a variety of colors from pure white to pink, coral, orange, red, and purple. The downside is that you won't find these in yellows or blues, but that's not a concern of mine. The blossoms are full and lush and the plants always grow rather quickly. They look great in a flower box, planter, or circling around a mailbox.

Although these are summer flowering plants, make sure that you protect them from the sun. Impatiens that get more than a half a day of sun or are dried out will wilt and...
...

cherylw says "a must for hanging baskets" about Impatiens annual flowers

Every year my first pick is impatients. They are so colorful and easy to grow. You don't have to dead head the old flowers and they just keep blooming. I love the way they fill in space in a flower bed or how they overflow in hanging baskets Iven if you forget to water, and they are drooping they usually come back pretty fast. The only negative, is that one frost and forget it, they become mushy and will not recover. So don't plant too early and if you want them to last longer in the fall, cover or bring them in if there is an early frost....

I love to plant impatiens bedding plants in containers. Three or four plants will grow and fill a moderately large pot. This past year, I planted one in with some hanging basket begonias, and when the weather got colder, I brought it into the house. It's still growing and blooming now in March. It is now spreading out to about a foot in diameter. I didn't realize until reading the other reviews that impatiens prefer shade. I've grown them on my porch where they get quite a lot of sun for several years. So I guess they're pretty flexible. Enjoy them! ...
