LisaCarey says "Great when my sister was wondering where she was going to sleep " about Hotels.com

Let me tell you a little story about Hotels.com. Normally I look at it but find it's not very competitive with its pricing so I take a peek to get ideas and then move on to the hotels own site or someplace like Priceline where I have never been disappointed in my hotel bookings and price. But recently, my sister while traveling on business was in a jam and Hotels.com really took care of her, me and the reservation.

After visiting Hotels.com I found exactly the hotel I wanted (airport Sheraton in Orlando Florida) for $62.00 for the night. They had shuttle service so I didn't have to worry about my sister getting stranded. Her travel arrangements didn't work out, her office was closed and she was scheduled to go into a school fare for college recruitment in minutes so we needed someone who could find and book the hotel for her.

Wanting to make sure she would be safe and secure, as well as make absolutely certain of some other details I called Hotels.com customer service line. The...
...

kathrono says "Disappointing" about Hotels.com

I booking a room last summer. When arriving at midnight it was absolutely not what we had ordered. I called customer service but was stuck listening to music for half an hour. I just wanted to sleep but not in that room because it was HORRIBLE. Was luckily able to get the room I ordered for a little extra from the resort. I understand these things might just happen once in a blue moon or so I assume but I didn't like how Hotels.com Handeled the situation. They didn't want to accept fault and offered me a few bucks off my next booking which is weird incentive for a first time user with a bad experience, but I guess it was I nice offer none the less. Maybe I will try them again maybe not
...

After making a reservation for a getaway weekend through hotels.com, I received a call from the hotel reservation desk offering a standard rate that was 33% less. Hotels.com refused to match via their "price match guarantee" under the premise that they only match rates posted on websites! When I tried to cancel the reservation made through hotels.com, they also refused based on "current policy". I am not impressed!
...

DebBulkeley says "the online customer service is good, but don't bother calling" about Hotels.com

I am editing my review after getting a response from the email customer service at hotels.com. After a mechanical break down kept me from reaching my destination, a telephone customer service rep. refused to allow cancellation, even with a fee. When our car broke down en route, the customer service agent was not in the least bit understanding, even though I offered to provide a AAA service number to prove there was no physical way of continuing the road trip to our planned destination. However, I later emailed the customer service link and within 24 hours was told the cost of the trip would be refunded. If you encounter a problem with hotels.com, don't bother calling. The email reps are much more reasonable. After dealing with the email rep., I may use this booking service again, as the prices seem pretty reasonable.
...

doshivk says "amazing" about Hotels.com

Hotels.com is one of my favourite sites to use to book travel. First of all, among all the websites out there (orbitz.com, travelocity, airline websites, expedia etc) this is the only website that allows you to cancel your reseversation as long as the hotel allows it without charging any fees. When you are booking your hotel room, the website lets you know if you can cancel in the future and if there any fees associated with canceling.

Another thing I like about hotels.com is that it allows you to search for airlines even if your flight does not depart from a US location. For example I was recently looking for airfare from London to Mumbai. Most other US travel websites will not perform such a search.

Their vacation packages are great too. Most of the time hotels.com gives you a discount for booking flight and hotels together.

The best part about hotels.com is their incentive ..book 10 nights, get one free. no limits.

mrkstvns says "Gotta pay in advance" about Hotels.com

I love getting a good deal, so I'll occasionally browse the hotel deals on hotels.com. There are three reasons I generally don't book with them though:

* you have to pay in advance and cancellations are generally NOT available. That's a FAR more restrictive condition than the industry norm of allowing cancellations up until day of arrival. Unless you get a SERIOUS discount, it is NOT worth booking on ANY web site that requires pre-payment.

* prices are generally not that great. Despite having onerous conditions, their prices basically suck. You can easily find better deals elsewhere.

* limited range of hotels: I like seeing the NON-chain hotels, and those are not always listed on hotels.com
...

I have used hotels.com to book several hotel stays this month. With the economy at the point it is right now. You can really score a great deal and have a nice vacation for a quarter of the price you would ususally pay.The reviews of other guest have helped me a lot deciding which hotel to stay at and they have been right on. The prices are unbeatable and I have not been dissapointed. I have recently signed up to their rewards program and I am definitely looking forward to my free night at any hotel. Too bad I booked two other stays before signing up and lost 3 nights that could have accumulated nicely with my rewards program. I definitely recommend this site to everyone. I would not book a hotel through any other site. You receive a confimation within minutes of booking and you can have your itinerary e-mailed to any one so if you are like me and you are meeting someone at the hotel, you don't have to worry about giving them information, it will be sent directly to them through hotels.com...
...

GeezAWhiz says "Absolutely terrible customer service" about Hotels.com

Terrible customer service.

I had prepaid in full, and when I showed up at the hotel, the hotel had no records for me. After spending 1.5 hour on the phone (and waiting for their faxes to show up at the hotel), they still couldn't fix the situation.

The only option they gave me was to cancel my reservation (and refund my money). They didn't care to make the situation better, nor try to get me a room at another hotel. For a person who showed up in a new city without a place to stay, I was pretty upset.

Then they made it really hard for me to cancel. They wanted to speak (or rather, yell) at the hotel manager, made me wait some more, and then told me that it will take them 30 to 60 days to process the refund! I told them absolutely not, but they never acknowledged that things would be done any faster.

Judging from the accent of the customer reps (I had to work with 3 different ones on the calls I've made to them) and their argumentative demeanors, I am guessing that Hotels.com outsource their......

Hotels.com shows hotels, area maps, amenities, nearby attractions & more

Hotels.com may not always be the absolute best place to book a room, but it is certainly the easiest place to learn the most information in the shortest amount of time. You can search by location, and by hotel chain, if you like. You can find options near major attractions or airports. And all the hotels that match your search criteria come up in a list, but more importantly, also appear as icons on a map. So if you know you want to be on the south side of a city, for example, you can instantly see which of your options are worth checking out further.

I particularly like the fact that you can see how other guests have rated each property. (three stars, four stars, etc) These ratings mean something when considered against the number of reviews factored into the rating. If one guest had a beef, I don't give that opinion too much weight. If 127 people average out at 2.0 stars out of 5, that...
...

Our family just tried hotels.com for the first last month. I couldn't be happier.

We wanted to take a vacation but did not want to spend much. I tried many different websites looking for bargains.

After deciding on a location, I checked every travel website you can think of. I even called the tourism bureau of the city we were to visit to get their recommendations on hotels.

I located a couple of the hotels that were recommended and found them on hotels.com. After checking the reviews and great prices, we chose one hotel. Hotels.com was offering a free $50 gas card with any three night stay.

We found two different mid-priced hotels. We made two separate reservations and received two $50 gas cards.

We had a great vacation and came home to find $100 waiting for us.

We had to call customer service regarding one hotel and a problem that came up. The problem was fixed while I was on the phone. Almost immediately. I really did not expect that type of customer service...
...

I do a lot of travelling and, like a lot of people these days, I do most of my booking online. A few years ago I started using Hotels.com, and have never looked back.

My first experience with Hotels.com was several years ago when I made last-minute plans to travel from New Zealand to Florida, to spend Christmas with my folks. A word to the wise: "last-minute" and "Christmas travel" should never, ever become a reality in your life, if you have any interest in remaining sane. Anyhow, the only flights I could get in order to make it to Tampa on Christmas day involved flying from Wellington, NZ, to Auckland, NZ, to Los Angeles, and arriving in Washington D.C. late on Christmas Eve. The first flight from D.C. to Tampa wasn't until 7 am, Christmas day. I could not, for the life of me, find a vacant hotel room in D.C. that wouldn't bankrupt me. Via Hotels.com, not only did I find a moderately-priced room, but an extra $15 got me round trip shuttle service. After having flown for 18 hours,...
...
