kat24165 says "Hostel is horrifying" about Hostel

Hostel scared the crap out of me. The scariest thing about this movie is that I really think this is a possibility. There are some seriously sick people in this world and unfortunately some of them have money.

Just the thought of going backpacking through Europe is enough to keep me awake at night. After i saw this movie i didn't get a good nights sleep for weeks . I had nightmares about being kidnapped and tortured.

The special effects for this movie were amazing. Everything looked real-and terrifying. This isn't exactly Oscar material but the actors in this movie sure did a good job of convincing me that they were interror for their life and their agony looked real-too real.

How hard would it be to pull something like this off? Especially if there's big, huge amounts of money behind it. Especially if people in power were part of it. Abduct a few people here and there from all around the world. Yeah, their families would demand explanations but they'd eventually quiet down.

Just thinking...
...

excuddysbro says "Hostel is a gorey movie that you want to watch but is hard to." about Hostel

Hostel was a great movie. It was a very bloody movie with lots of gross things. The ending was great because I didn't see what was going to happen. I suggest if you didn't watch it you should. You will love it. If you are one of the people that love story-lines then you should think about watching this movie. It has a pretty good storyline in it....

I am a big horror fan and this movie made my stomache turn it is a pretty gruesome horror movie. If you like blood and torture this is a movie for you!I can actually see someone out in the real world coming up with torturing people for fun and to relieve stress as a way to make some extra cash,I think theres enough sick people in this world who would participate in something like this,I guess to me thats what makes this movie so gruesome because I can see this happening in the real world....

So this movie did do one thing for me and my boyfriend and I realized we have to date each other cause no one else will have us. When the girl jumped in front of the train, I busted out laughing so hard that the entire theater turned to look at me, but I couldn't stop to the points that tears were coming down my face. My boyfriend started laughing because I did. Afterwards the woman that brought her children that was sitting in front of us gave us such a nasty look it almost made the whole thing worth it....

TheBard says "The trailer promised more than the movie ultimately delivered" about Hostel

Bottom-Line: In a nutshell Hostel was a bit of a bore; the movie promised way more than it delivered.

I have never been a big Quentin Tarantino fan; I have always felt as though his movies have been over-rated. Hostel wherein Tarantino produces is no exception. While the trailer consisted of little more than images of anonymous victims screaming in pain, toes and fingers being chopped off, and creepy men clad in blood splattered butcher's aprons and surgical masks playing with sharp knives, the movie itself is a bit of a bore. Fully an hour into the film, the bloodletting had yet to take place and in a horror film that is the kiss of death-no pun intended.

Not to worry Hostel, which is staffed by a bunch of young viral unknowns is dripping with nudity and sex; you know the appetizer before the main entry. The premise is this: two American college friends Paxton (Jay Hernandez) and Josh (Derek Richardson) take a break before each pursue graduate degrees and trek across Europe in search...
...

gamera23 says "a gory fable relentless in its pursuit of audience discomfort" about Hostel

In his first film Cabin Fever, Eli Roth delivered the goods by emulating 1970s horror classics in fresh new ways. But for all its shocks Fever always maintains a dark sense of humor. That spirit of fun is almost entirely missing from Hostel, a gory fable that is relentless in its pursuit of audience discomfort while playing its pulp theatrics to the hilt.

Hostel is the final destination for a trio of obnoxious students, partying across Europe in search of exotic thrills. The tables are turned when they are lured into a trap by beautiful women, falling prey to an ultra-sinister blood thrill business. This house of horrors is so heinous and horrific that you can’t help but root for the boys, no matter how annoying they are, to (hopefully) exact a fitting revenge, or at least escape from their dire predicament – if only to get us all out of the movie!

It’s all so gruesome that you forgive how unlikely it would be for a bunch of rich American kids to disappear without somebody raising......
