shamrockbear says "I fun place to try with groups gastropub" about Hopleaf - Chicago, IL

Well this is the new trend in Chicago the "Gastropub" which mean just a very large pub with food!
It has all the typical micro-brews. Typical wood decor with a bar and chairs in the front and tables in the back. Yes I do agree it is crowded on weekends and it wasn't that loud when I was there but people are drinking so they talk loud. The food I sampled from others was okay. I think its just good food that will goes with beer. I would go with a group for fun or a couple of friends its not your local pub to sit at the bar by yourself. Its in trendy Andersonville so be ready for a non-conservative crowd so don't be surprised to see 2 men holding hands.... I would go again but not a must......

I'd heard a lot about this place. It was OK but not a place I'm dying to go back to. VERY crowded. Very long wait for food....though I must admit, the shoestring fries with garlic dipping sauce were quite tastey. Couldn't hear my friends across the table and hard to walk throuh without tripping on tables/chairs/people. Maybe I'm just not a barfly but it was just OK to me....

davedahl says "The longest most well-constructed beer list in the city" about Hopleaf - Chicago, IL

This place is a beer-snob heaven. There are longer beer lists in Chicago, but the Hopleaf list tops them all because of the quality and versatility. The waitstaff is very knowledgeable - if they have/take the time to chat. Oh, and the food's pretty darn good too.

Go there, drink a beer you've never heard of, then wash/rinse/repeat.
...
