We recently purchased a home and did some thorough comparision shopping at Home Depot and Lowes. Home Depot consistently beat Lowes in every category!

Hope Depot's employees were much more friendly and willing to help in any way they could. One employee helped me load material when he saw me struggling eventhough he was off the clock.

Home Depot also beat Lowes on almost every price comparison. Lowes did have a bigger selection of floor tile and paint, however, their price sure showed it. On most tile, Lowes was at least $2.00 or more a box higher than Home Depot. And the paint prices worked the same way.

I would just like to comment on the quality of Lowe's Home Improvement stores, especially the store in Danville, VA. I love the quality of the items Lowes sells and the availability of the items in stock. I have purchased so many things from this store- from plants in the Outside Garden area to paint in the paint department. I have recently purchased a playhouse from this store which we love!! We purchased lumber and built a porch onto the playhouse, built a mailbox onto it, and are in the process of attaching flower boxes to the windows. In conclusion, the Lowes in Danville, Va is an excellent store with a wide variety of home improvement items, great customer service, and superb quality!! Thanks Lowes!

I've bought lumber and other products from both of these places and neither have given me quality service or product....

Shopping for home improvement items is more entertaining than in the past. In the old days, all we had were hardware stores: small, quiet, boring places that didn't always have what we needed and that couldn't hold our attention for much longer than the time it took to grab what we needed and make a quick exit. A trip to the hardware store was something to avoid- an activity in which to partake only if something essential was desperately needed.

Times have changed. Today, there is a new type of store that has made the hardware store obsolete. These stores have much more than hammers, nails, screwdrivers, and a few power tools. These stores have all of this and much more, including doors, windows, appliances, a garden center, lighting, cabinets, etc., etc. I am talking, of course, about home improvement retailers and two biggest players in this game are Lowe's and Home Depot.
